For Steven Green’s wife (and everyone else) check out Elizabeth Moon’s two series Suiza-Serano (first three about Heris Serrano) and another 4 book series Vatta’s War staring Kylara Vatta. Characters with believable flaws that really play into the story but about good, strong characters, some of which are female. They’re mostly spaceship set so there wouldn’t be much female boot kicking however.
Bill: The true Star Wars canon after The Return of the Jedi starts with Thrawn! Everything else is heresy!
Steve: In my book library [I leave librai0y book sales with at least one sack]; I have found tons of female based kick ass characters like Brad Thor’s The Athena Project, David Weber created the Honnorverse, & J. F. Rivkin’s Silverglass series [Quote from Piers Anthony “It’s fun to see a tall, handsome, hard-fighting, hard-drinking, barbarian hero-who is female”]
On Comics as a child of the 60s
Pre-Pub: Wonder Woman G.R.O.S.S. [HT Calvin & Hobbs]
Post-Pub: Hello Annie-Fannie!!!! [HT Playboy]
As a woman of color, Brie Larson… Wait, what?
Steve – I generally don’t go for conspiracy theories but I suspect something like what you stated happened. I think, though, that it was more like Larson went rogue, but the producers saw an out which is why they didn’t shut her up. She became a useful idiot.
Rumor is that they actually shot different scenes for Endgame where another character did some of the rescue work that was scripted as Capt Marvel, just in case (when) CM tanked. That way Avengers movies could continue and not rely so much on CM.
As an aside, and a member may have posted a blog about this, but “superhero” movies are only interesting if the heroes have flaws and weaknesses. If CM has no weaknesses, the character has no depth. They are not interesting as movies.
Batman as portrayed by Clooney and Affleck are not bad because we don’t like the actors, they were bad because they were played as one note characters. Even deplorables can tell the difference.
Interesting. I have long held that a good way to counter the corruption of the American Experience is for the productive to stop feeding “them”.
The boycotting of the movie and gaming crap is exactly that. That “they” are held accountable for their denial of reality is now actually coming true.
It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving group of wannabe pretenders. They hold the fantasy status of being productive and who insist that they don’t have to pay their own way.
Only the evil white male are expected to pay. Wanna bet? A flock of turkey buzzards are coming home to roost.
Just stop feeding them and they will go away.
I collected comics since 1964. Captain Marvel was not a girl.
The progressives are rewriting history like they do, destroying history, while we try to remember it.
There are few places left in the popular culture now where 2+2=4.
In media, education, entertainment, politics, 2+2=5.
God is dead and man is god. 2+2=5.
I like girl heroes.
I loath the rewriting history, which is simply lying.
The funny thing is given how female woke the new Star Wars movies are supposed to be, how come every woman in them is a complete idiot?

Solo was fun – not great & it left a lot of meat on the bone, but unlike Episodes 7 & 8 it was fun to watch. The worst thing about the movies isn’t that I’m angry or annoyed anymore – I just don’t care what happens in them. Seriously – ask yourself what storyline or character has you interested in what happens next? I don’t even hate these new characters; they simply bore me. I think BIll said it best in one of his TSLs that “Rose Tico makes Jar Jar look like Boba Fett”.
Someone at Ace of Spades said it best, “Star Wars has become more of an obligation than an event”
Damned shame, but whatever.
Solo was OK. The train sequence was quite good. And of course Lando.
What bugged me was this: Han Solo does not need an origin story. It fact, as an archetypal character, an origin story actually detracts from what we already know about him.
Imagine if Hollywood decided to do an origin movie for Clint Eastwood’s infamous Man With No Name from the “Fistful of Dollars” series. We find out his name his Barry, he was raised in a comfortable home but had a falling out with his father… etc, etc. Yuck.
Also, the first part of the movie, Han’s street urchin background, was just lazy and cliche.
What Disney should have done was just make a Han & Chewie adventure series. Each movie they show up on a new planet/starship/whatever and get into trouble with the locals, or have a job or con to pull off. Very Western, like original Star Wars. They could have made a half-dozen of those things, with practically zero character growth or any of that extraneous-for-archetypes stuff, and we’d have all been SO HAPPY with each new one.
But I’ve gone on longer than The Last Jedi now and need to shut up.
Like you said solo was fun but to me it was only marginally a star wars story if they didn’t rub a star destroyer in your face every couple minutes you could have wandered off into regular sci fi and never noticed. AS A movie I like Rogue one much better, but then I’m a sucker for a last stand movie. My issue with that was the blind asian monk. If you want to write a kung foo movie do that. Just as has been said around here before the writing is just bad. I think this is because the writers hired by people who hated Star Wars . Maybe they were excited by star wars but were not Star Wars fans. Much the same with Star Trek voyage to wokeness. (Discovery.)I really don’t think anybody would care if a trangender omisexual shuttlecraft was a thing as long as the story doesn’t suck.
