Zo wants to know how and when and WHY did teenage rebellion get co-opted… because there’s no questions that Gen Z teens and twenty-somethings simply repeat the troped drilled into them by their liberal teachers, parents and government. You know… the one’s they’re supposed to be rebelling AGAINST?

I don’t know how many of you guys can relate, but I never understood the desire to be a “peace, love, get stoned, check out” rebellious teenager. Probably because my mother was an astrologer, local playhouse comedienne, Gaya worshiper, yoga practioner, amateur massage therapist, …, you get the idea. And Pop was a socialist-leaning college professor. Me being “rebellious” was listening to speeches by Goldwater and his protégé Ronald Reagan and the wisdom of the economist Milton Friedman.
Pretty much a conservative my whole life, old enough to, and did, vote for Ronald Reagan. Had conservative parents.
My rebellion? According to my parents and relatives, I didn’t have any. Unless you count my interest in fantasy and sci-fi. Not my parents things. But they couldn’t really complain. Good grades, responcilbe, etc. Christian at 14. My Sunday school teacher considered me his “anchor man” as I knew the Bible well.
Voracious reader. My dad valued that, but wanted me to be a bit more physical. I met his standards, but think he couldnt quite get my not really liking sports.
