Right Angle: BACKSTAGE [3/12/2019]

Bill Whittle, Stephen Green and Scott Ott work out the topics for the upcoming episodes of Right Angle, but don’t even try to work out their personal problems.

Welcome to the future of the internet … which is remarkably like the past of the internet before social media took over. But better. Well done to Scott! Probably the best site of its type around.

According to what I can quickly gather, USS Hornet, CV-8, was sunk in October of 43, in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. I think you got confused with Essex because the CV-12, Essex Class carrier was commissioned as the USS Hornet to commemorate the loss of CV-8, USS Hornet.
EDIT: Lest there be confusion, the Hornet was the last Fleet Carrier sunk, but the Escort Carrier, USS Bismarck Sea, CVE 95, was sunk in February of 1945.

Steve, it’s become a sub-heading under FAQ. Roll your mouse over FAQ, and BUGS should appear under it. Check it out. If you still can’t find it, come back here, and I’ll talk you through it.

Took me a while to find it, too!

Scott: A British Whitepaper in the 60s declared manned combat aircraft obsolete & was a major factor in dropping the TSR-2 program. A small error?

It just might be me, but…

Does anyone else sense a new energy in the trio? To me it seems like they have a spring in their proverbial step that’s been missing for awhile.

Then again, that just might be me projecting my abundant glee about this new site!

Steve: Create the 19th hole?
Bill: Boeing proposed a airborne carrier version of the 747 using a micro fighter design that made the F5A look like F22A. Time to rethink this idea?

Boeing’s been trying to sell the DOD a combat version of the 747 for decades. A bomber, a carrier… Almost had it w/ the ABL back in the 90s. But no dice.

Interesting development in social media that kills it for people is the echo bubbles. People control who they follow, block and listen to, eventually only hearing themselves. That’s what is great about this site. We are in our own social media private club.

Yeah I watched that video a couple weeks ago when it came out. Its a really good one and gives me even more confidence in our military seeing how they are focusing on the future of warfare and not just the present

I didn’t write much; I just embedded the video and wrote a quick explanation. Nothing you won’t get by watching the video.

Go to the blog for members that Scott mentioned. You’ll find it there.

Bill, updates from your Facebook to Twitter have been broken for a long, long time. I used to watch your feed for TSL notifications and I can’t remember the last time I saw one of those.

Well, it is one of the sharpest and best-written blogs on the whole internet, my contributions notwithstanding.

They pick on you too much over there. You always post the best airplane and carrier pron

I will never get Facebook. Which, unfortunately, means no TSL questions from me until they get that built into this site.

Yes! Please move TSL questions to BW site! Of course, I rarely watch it live, usually days, months later!
