Progressives in the media and politics complain that Kim Jong Un is playing President Trump, who settles for a self-aggrandizing photo opp, but is not projecting American strength (LOL). The Left also criticizes Trump for using the North Korea summit and G-20 meeting to cozy up to strongmen like Kim, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. Is the U.S. President an “agent of unpredictability”, or does he understand better than President Obama or his predecessors how to create global stability?

Thank you! It’s well known how much Khrushchev ordered the KGB to influence the 1960 election that put JFK in the White House.
Epic rant!
The value of an unpredictable President in foreign policy….where have I heard that expressed perfectly before. Oh right, Frank J at IMAO. Always thought he was brilliant.
When things like this happen, and people on both sides go nuts; I like to take names and parties out of the situation and see if it problematic or not .
Like this:
The US President has had 3 meetings with the dictator of a hostile nation thus moving the conversation forward.
nothing about that is inherently bad. It is good to talk. I am all for seeing what happens next.
I predict the same outcome as Richard Nixon’s overtures to China. Why does the RNC party continue its policy of appeasement? Did China abandon communism and shed’s its oppressive control over its people? Of course not!
The problem isn’t economics, it’s ideology. Communism is an evil system that places power in the hands of an elite few and subjugates the remainder. The Chicoms proved that communism and capitalism are not mutually exclusive propositions. They have successfully kept the people under control and given them enough freedom to think they are truly free. If Trump succeeds, the Norks will become like China and keep its people enslaved under a communist dictatorship while using capitalism as a carrot to keep them under control.
“Communism is an evil system that places power in the hands of an elite few and subjugates the remainder.” Kind of like the political elites in America today (regardless of party)?
I see North Korea as a different animal than China and Trump as very different from Nixon. I see Trump’s primary goal as getting the Korean Peninsula together under South Korean leadership. Unlike the panic in the media, I don’t see the nukes as anything more than a shiny bauble to distract the masses with while more serious people try to reach the more lasting goal. And NK was selling nuclear secrets to Iran, which is a good thing to forestall.
But in the end, the only lasting solution is a complete transformation of AMERICAN politics. We need to throw out the little Congressional potentates, fire the Federal Administrative State and not elect replacements. Personally, I favor a ban on electing politicians to political office. That is how we got into the China mess in the first place.
In fact, I have some internal knowledge of where the Republican party has gone wrong, if anyone wants to remake the system to institute such a ban on politicians. Neither Trump nor the Congress…no matter how noble…can make this change. It is up to American citizens to organize to change our country for the better.
Rush today played a hilarious comparison of the media’s reaction to Trump stepping into NoKo to their almost tears of ecstatic joy and praise when Obama went to Cuba. I think it was in the second hour
Bill and Scott are saying that nothing has happened since Kim’s last visit with Trump. But something did happen just a few days ago. North Korea’s dictator gave a speech. I’m not sure whether he gave it before Trump mentioned that he might be willing to do a spontaneous meeting with Kim during his visit to South Kora or not, but it did happen before the actual visit. Kim said the following things in his speech:
1. Our nuclear program has been a roaring success, therefore we don’t need to do any more testing.
2. It has been such a success that we are considering closing down our largest test facility near the Chinese boarder.
3. And we don’t care any more if the US has troops in South Korea. We are no longer going to demand the US troops be removed.
Rah, rah, North Korea. (And aren’t I such a benevolent dictator.)
I don’t actually call that “nothing”, although I believe I had to hear it from the BBC.
That is all great stuff. Can you find a link? I am sure we’d all like to see it.
Yes, facts only come to light in overseas media.
In Bill’s defense, he didn’t say nothing happened. Quite the contrary. In my defense, I did say it, but I was quoting folks on the Left. Thanks for the news update, Miriam, I, like Ralph, would love a link to that story.
Unfortunately it was a Youtube that flew by. I will have to see if I can find it again. The translator was paraphrasing instead of directly translating, but that was the gist.
Bombards Body language analysis indicates a level of trust between Kim and Trump not seen in ages with any world leader. Both took huge risks from the point of view of their people and the worlds analysts. It implies that Kim was never the dictator everyone claims He is. I cover it in my latest blog post.

Thanks for link, interesting…
Scott said its their second meeting. Technically its Kim and Trump’s 3rd meeting and there is a rumoured secret meeting before the first.
If you fly from Tokyo to Seoul you have to go around North Korea. If you get permission to fly over it it halves the travel time and there is a North Korean Air base in the middle of the country north of the DMZ. The claim is that Trump dropped in last year for some early negotiation. We don’t know which aircraft in the fleet.
While Trump is president the MSM and the democrats would much rather have the US and NK slinging nukes at each other killing as many on each side as possible, then they could point and say “look what Trump did”…. On the other hand I am half expecting the democrats like Bernie, AOC, Elizabeth Warren to try to sell a conflict by saying it will slow down illegal immigration to the US and the world will have a lot fewer hungry North Koreans. The North Korean leadership may be on the “third generation of crazy” but the Progressives in the US are catching up with the insanity at warp speed.
Not really related to this subject, but my demented little mind went sideways and came up with something. I dislike “liberal” for the left because they are not. I dislike “progressive” because that sounds good. “Individualist” vs “Collectivist” is best, but a bit long. Now for my bit of wierdness. “The Right is right and the Left is what is left.” Short, accurate, and I hope kinda catchy. That is all.
Not bad! I’ve been on the same quest. I came up with regressive and reactive. The former, though accurate, is definitely not catchy. The latter might work in the current climate of “They-like-it? We-hate-it!” insanity.
I know what Trump is doing doesn’t quite equate to Obama telling Putin to “stop it“, but it’s because his approach is smarter and more effective. Rocket Man likes celebrities and Trump is taking advantage of it. That and unpredictability is a good thing.
