Read Shattered Sword on Steve’s recommendation. Excellent book. I’ve been reading about Midway since I was a kid and this book had a number of points I did not know. Had never heard of. For example. I never knew the IJN’s CAP was such a cluster-fork.

Even w/o the radio, the planes could have been assigned to specific areas to stay in and patrol. Rather than everybody chasing after whatever’s in the direction a destroyer’s shooting.

Here’a a thought that I briefly alluded to in the segment Bill posted last Saturday. Since we get political content each day of the week, whether via RA or BW Now, why not save one of your science/lifestyle pieces for Saturdays? We get the same amount of content, just spread out more. Or is weekend viewership that much lower that you get more hits via multiple posts on a single weekday?

I would love to have a fresh one to watch with my unhurried espresso on Sat morning while the rest of the house still slumbers. I heartily second this motion.

Reference the part about the deodorant…if you want a huge giggle, look up Dr. Squatch’s man soap. The add is absolute hilarious. Thanks for a very amusing BackStage. I eagerly look forward to these every week.

So what you are saying Scott is without our Forceful Apathy which makes it impossible to become engaged or involved you three might actually be holding back?

I think it’s time for us Citizen Producers to remind these gentlemen who funds their efforts. A few days toiling in the sugar caves should serve as a reminder!

From Steve’s reaction; I thought he was going to pull a Maynard G. Krebs & yell ‘sober’!

I read it as an allegory. In a capitalist society, it gives a great result for the vast majority. But there is always someone on the bottom. That is the way I saw the little girl… not as an individual, as representative of the people on the bottom. It has been years since I read it, so I can’t really go into any details.

But it was a lone, scared, hurting, and scorned little girl and that was the point. Not a symbol but a little girl.
