Not Talking About News

Test driving my new camera, I decided to sit down for a few minutes — with no script and no premeditation — and not talk about news. #OTTFAIL

Scott,

How did you get the YT video to embed. I keep trying to do something similar and after I hit Create / Update, the YT vid is stripped out of my post. Any ideas?

Foghorn

I did this post from the admin panel of the site, but I just tested it from the front end, with my non-admin account and the only way that worked in my Chrome browser was to simply paste the YT URL directly in the window.

Okay. Thanks for the help. The frustrating thing is that in the creation/editor window it looks like it’s embedding the video as expected, but then it’s gone after you hit Create/Update.

That frustrates me as well. The blog posting gizmo is a plugin for the website, not custom coded, and I haven’t found anything better yet.

Scott, this will have nothing to do with the news….
I ran across a YouTube channel that I think you would get a kick out of….
I know Bill should, so if you could forward it on after you see it I would appreciate it.
The channel is of a young man who builds model rockets.
But rockets that are more “Space-X” than “Hasbro”…
This guy is building rockets that use thrust vectoring and are attempting to do the Space-X, vertical landings, and more….
I am having SNAFU with my clip board function but will try to copy you the link. …
The channel is BPS.SPACE
But if you or Bill would like to see a 2 foot tall model of a Space X booster come down and land like the day we watched the Falcon Heavy put the car into space, then land the boosters? ???
Then check out this kid’s channel….
BTW thanks for the help getting my membership problem straightened out…..
It’s good to be back….

I haven’t created a channel there yet. When I think of a good reason for one, I’ll let you know. Thanks, Patrick.

The audio sounds much better!

That new app “telegram” …
I am VERY wary of “Social Media” apps the require you to use your telephone number for verification.
I am sure they say that they are using it to stop trolls and zombie accounts.
But I seriously take issue with that vast majority of these apps that can track you everywhere you go.
I have a tablet with wifi only to sign up to most of these mobile only apps so I don’t have to hand out my cell number to businesses that make their money selling my info.

It has a “film” look. The white balance needs correcting, but it looks like you could get a very good picture from it. The shallow depth of field also helps, setting you apart from the background

Good catch. After shooting, I noticed that it was on a film setting, rather than the standard one I prefer for this kind of work. I ameliorated that in time for this morning’s BWN shoot.

I would note that you were leaning into the camera here, while generally leaning back or more erect during BWNow and RA. That will also impact the balance.

I think next time you want to kill time you should give us a tour of the “vintage” items behind you with some back story. I bet you could rival a TSL in length doing that!

And Scott – I want you to know that I asked about the tour of your vintage items BEFORE watching this week’s Backstage. So now I am looking for the washtub.

Camera is actually zoomed tighter in this than in other shows. I’ll think about the vintage item show. Thanks for the idea.

I share your feelings, Scott. Its hard to be on social media or any media without the news either making you angry or disgusted lately. Real life needs to be about the moment and the truth of the moment. It’s a lot about humanity, and you have a lot of that. Go have some fun with people. Hope to see you in Dallas someday soon. Thanks to you and Bill and Steve for all you do for us.
