Standing In The Gap

I’ve stated on numerous occasions, that I lacked the courage to wear my Country’s Uniform, when I was young and strong enough to wear it. And yet, somewhere deep inside, my heart beat for those who wade through blood and fire to protect us.

My admiration for Our Nations’ warriors is unabashed and unashamed. Soldier, or policeman, it matters not. Those who are willing to put on a uniform, pick up a weapon and Stand in the Gap to defend our nation, deserve our undying respect. Ideals like the Code of Chivalry and Bushido have molded men for centuries. The very idea of Might for Right is what keeps us from being brutes.

And yet, there are those who advocate for removing my ability to protect my wife, my cats, or my property. To my eternal chagrin, I’ve never worn My Country’s Uniform, But I Have worn A Uniform, pinned a piece of tin to my chest, and fought for my life and the lives of those in my charge. Those of you who have never been Under Fire, should be, perhaps, a bit circumspect when speaking about issues pertaining to self-defense.

I’ve come to realize that the Battles that I fought, while not of geo/political significance, were indeed Battles.  The fates of nations were not at stake, but lives were still at risk. I did my bit. I will continue to do so. I’ve earned my scars. I am a Warrior.

Protecting the weak is among Man’s highest aspirations, but there are those who would deprive me of the tools necessary to do so. I’ve said this so many times before; Liberty is Dangerous, but the alternative is infinitely worse! Sheep are safe. Slaves are safe. Freemen, not so much. But, the blessings of Liberty are worth the hazard. I’m not disarming, and I’m not giving up. Your move.
