Don’t remember the exact details, but I saw an Australian Documentary about the plastic that China buys from Aus., ships to Malaysia and leaves the vast majority of it in Malaysia in illegal dump sites… was totally surprised…. Aussies are upset because they work so hard at “Recycling” this stuff (China buys from the Aussie Recyclers) Just sayin’
The plastic straw issue mirrors the “rape & incest” abortion argument. Pick the least factor, bring it to the fore, & rail against it. Meanwhile, overlook or ignore the 99% of the actual causes of the problem.
The ENVIRONMENTAL Movement is not about the Environment. It is about Virtue signaling and telling the “others” what is right and just. FaR TOO MANY ARDE TOTAL Frauds & Hypocrites. It is MORE Power & Control.

I have never seen a bigger mess in my entire life. Buildings covered in soot, empty fields with mountains of trash piled three stories high, abandoned cars everywhere, and on and on. I used to think America had problems with dirty water, dirty air, and trash but I had no idea just how awful some place could be. Steve is totally right about the Commies. They have screwed up the environment of entire regions. There are forests in the former Soviet Union where signs tell you to roll up your windows and drive fast. Turns out the whole forest is polluted by radiation.
Most recycling efforts are a farce. They are done to make people and city governments LOOK good and not do good. A while back I had a friend in Omaha, NE that had a small packaging manufacturing company. He made the little blister packs and clam-shell packaging that you see all the time. The city was running a recycling program and would pick up these little containers all over town. My friend called them and told them he had about 3,500 lbs of scrap to give them. There response was typical, they did not want it. They just wanted to pick up small little containers that had maybe a few ounces in them. It was all for show and lost money all of the time.
Statistics be damned, leading by example over the inconsequential is the province of OCD. China is leading by example, which is why the world is more communist today than ever. Ronald Reagan famously said the human race is one generation away from extinction. In America, John Q Public is one election away from communist enslavement, or, good governance. So which way do you think the wind is blowing?
It is bad that the government doesn’t fix real problems and worse that they make real problems get bigger but they are really on a roll when they invent fictitious problems they can make huge money on LIKE GLOBAL WARMING!
Most politicians are about keeping and expanding their power and influence and those on the Left are by far the worst. They don’t fix problems they make them because pretending to fix problems is what gets them filthy rich. Actually solving problems might reduce or end their ride on the tax payer funded gravy train.
I learned that we sell a lot of our recyclables to China, of which most of it they can’t use because it’s contaminated with food and other garbage. Then, China dumps it wherever they please. So while we’re over here acting virtuous, we’re passing our trash to the largest polluters on the planet.
Plus let’s add the fact that left is now defending China against the Hong Kong protesters as one more ass-backward move on their part.
What do I do about plastic straws? I keep a stash of them in my car so when I eat out, I don’t have to deal with the gross paper, glue-laden and non-recyclable straws. You can still buy bulk quantities of them at the dreaded billionaire-run Amazon. It’s a two-fer!
If the demented left actually identified the real problem and actually worked to make it go away, they would soon no longer have anything to do. This is why they focus on something that is not THE problem and propose non solutions for what isn’t THE problem.
The real issue, is that the demented left is so incompetent, all they can do is accuse and destroy. They cannot identify the real problems nor solve them. Neither can they actually build ANYTHING that makes the world a better place. This is because they reject the real world, hate it with a passion, and simply do the wrong things at the wrong times in a way guaranteed not to work. They think it makes them strong and masters of the universe but it only demonstrates their abject inability to live on earth.
