In this round up of COVID-19 pandemic news, Scott Ott asks Bill Whittle about America’s progress in fighting the virus, rescuing the economy, changing our social mores, and developing immunity to fear and loathing in the grocery store. Plus, should Democrats delay the April 7 Wisconsin presidential primary?

The toilet paper thing was not panic buying. Now people are writing about the real causes of the problem.

There is plenty of toilet paper at work in some places but we are not at work.
To chime in on the Wisconsin primary election, it is all kinds of a messy situation. While the presidential primary is probably of most interest nationally we also have a number of local council seats on the ballot in April, a state supreme court seat (which is of great interest locally, with a strong lefty and a solid conservative vying for the conservative’s seat. The 7 seat court is currently 5-2 conservative but we really don’t want it 4-3 again). The mayors that are up for election, in particular Milwaukee’s, have terms ending a week or so after the election.
The judge probably ruled correctly according to our state laws for elections but the major sticking point is the republican held assembly and senate haven’t wanted to work with the democrat governor to move/change the dates of the election. I’m not exactly sure why because I apparently haven’t been following the right media outlets to hear their reasoning. That may prove to be a problem when some of them are up for re-election. With the judge’s ruling (and he also put in a extra day to request a mail in ballot, a whole week extra to send them in – normally they have to be postmarked the day of the election at 8pm) he then put an order to the clerks to not release the estimated vote totals until after all of the ballots are due in. There are some speculating that order is not legal or valid, and the governor called a special session of the legislature I think to start Monday to maybe postpone the election.
Great work you guys! I wish the closing “positive” moment was true. Sadly if you are referring to Medtronics, this was sort of a PR stunt. While they released some documentation, there is a lot of material missing for anyone wishing to construct these. There is no program code to run the microprocessor and the legal agreement to manufacture these is a tangle that does not really represent open source. Looked and sounded good but may not be what it appears. You can reference the following from a well known engineer who reviewed much of what was released. A lot of geeky engineering talk but worthwhile for a quick view. Stay safe. eevBlog

Masks are good evidence that you are down with the struggle. Just wait till you can have branded masks – like MAGA masks, Coexist masks, Nike masks, pro-life/choice masks, … The mind boggles at what we can do with them.
To be fair, Bill Gates has had his hands full dealing with viruses since at least Windows 95…
While it’s true that there are no renters to replace evicted businesses or residents at the moment, something else that must be considered is that the landlord is also operating a business.
To really make this work, there also needs to be a suspension of property tax. It’s all well and good to say to landlords “you have to eat it when your tenants can’t pay for two months,” but then you’ve got the state or municipality there with their hand out for the usual taxes from that landlord, who may not be able to pay because he hasn’t been collecting rent.
Scott, why did you go again? Why did you stay? The reason is called “mental preparedness”. We are human and when we have not rational confronted bad situations intellectually, thought them through, and decided how we should react, we tend to simply follow our ingrained everyday habits. It is a bit like playing chess. The more moves you can anticipate, the better a player you are.
