Nursing Home Abuses

I was watching Fox News tonight and was absolutely shocked at the abuse our Seniors are   dealing with.  They are locked into rooms and are not allowed to see family or friends.  They are beaten by the caregivers (and I use the term “caregivers” very loosley).  It really  must be a living hell for them.  I ask myself, “Can this be my America?!”  These men and women raised families; they fought Wars and truly gave their full measure.  Is this how they end their lives…lonely and frightened?  Please tell me how we can help them and change what is happening and do it quickly.

This offends and saddens me at the same time. The disintegration of the nuclear family has to be the primary driver behind this. The court system has become so corrupted that it is virtually impossible to get these people arrested, let alone prosecuted. A possible solution, and I confess I am the least knowledgeable person on this subject, seems to be to create means of keeping our elders in their homes with their immediate family members. Tax incentives, social support networks, perhaps modeled on cooperative child care, or even combined with such child care, could be a step in the right direction. With no children of my own and virtually no other family members left alive, I literally fear for my future as an elder in need of care. That would make me ripe pickings for these monsters.

Publicly shame, legally prosecute, and socially ruin the offenders. Make their lives an enduring hell and their example will be remembered.

Or just slap them on the wrist, let them lead a charmed life free of consequences, and never follow up. That seems to be the Michigan modus operandi.

The really sad bit is that nothing happens if no one remembers this case in a month. Will we?
