Within hours, President Trump suggested a Goodyear boycott, and removing the Akron, Ohio, company’s tires from The Beast (the presidential limo).

Not 10 seconds after I had the thought about black walled vs. white walled tires, Scott mentioned it. Great minds, Scott, and all that!
Corey Blake: “That’s fine – just another product on my “never buy again” list.”
Antaine Ó hÓgáin: “There is no conservative counter-movement to provide consequences in the other direction,… ”
There has to be economic and employment pain directed at the perpetrators for this kind of thing to be stopped! Fortunately tires are easier to boycott than some products, even if Goodyear also makes other stuff that might be desirable (medical?). Go into a new or used car dealership and say “I’ll buy that car/truck as long as it doesn’t have Goodyear tires on it, otherwise, forget it!” As with the NFL the message will eventually be heard.
Now a toughy: if you have Goodyear stock do you sell it in protest? Buy a put in anticipation of a price decline? Or ???
Who has the most wealth, and the greatest ability to achieve an effective boycott? Conservatives or liberal/leftists? I don’t know or even know how to find out, but maybe our BWDC 3 amigos can explore that some time? Have all of the university boards of trustees, corporate boards of directors, and other fiduciaries at hospitals, etc. been taken over by woke leftists?
Now I need to go explore just how Trump responded, but I am glad to see that he did: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=trump+commenta+on+goodyear&t=opera&ia=web

Oh you are so right Bill. It should apply to all not just part of the political spectrum. And as far as Goodyear I might point out to them that when the NFL first started taking a knee, they lost a lot of fans and money. But when Chick-fil-A stood up to the LGBQ and would not bow down to them, they not only made money but started growing into more restaurants. Goodyear should take a lesson from that.

The problem here is that Goodyear is pretending that the “allowed” speech is not political speech, and therefore no discrimination exists. Because they supposedly have a “zero-tolerance” policy on political expression in the workplace (not just for employees who face the public).

This is the logical extension of “the personal is political.” They’ve moved the Overton Window such that the Leftist position is now considered the polite and acceptable default position, and any counter to that is to be regarded as overtly political and gauche.

Scott is right in that attempts to even-handedly ban irrelevant political expressions are met with exactly that kind of confrontation and, eventually, a woke mob trying to cancel your company and destroy your business. If you are active on Facebook, youc an even see this happen in groups for expressly non-political hobbies which have “no politics” in their member rules. Attempts to enforce the rule are met with a concerted attempt by the wokescolds to destroy the group, and they are usually successful. We’ve seen them do the same with companies, too.

There is no conservative counter-movement to provide consequences in the other direction, so all the incentive is on the side of tiptoeing around the mob, hoping not to wake the sleeping dragon.

Even if conservatives wanted to try something like that (it’s not in the conservative temperament), we wouldn’t be able to, as a key part of that is media and social media promotion of the boycott cause, which they would never do for us. In fact, it would likely go the other way. The conservative who tried to push back would themselves get “canceled,” lose their job, and get blacklisted as a racist or whatever.

Years ago, a friend of mine worked for a large company who had a very easy way to deal with this. All employees ( I stress ALL, including Sr. Management) upon hiring were given a copy of the company store catalog and informed that the proper attire was any shirt with the company logo and a pair of khaki pants or skirt. That’s it. The clothing was steeply discounted. Everyone represented the company at work, neatly and nicely.
It was by all accounts a very good place to work, right up until they outsourced all the jobs to Mexico.

I am not watching the NFL this year. I am a HUGE CHIEFS fan. I waited 50 years for last years win but will not watch or buy NFL merchandise. We all need to vote with our wallets daily. American Values Matter.

And a few idiots on the right (Twitchy being the biggest I’ve seen so far) are screaming at Trump for attacking an Ohio based company.
Yes geniuses, get Biden elected and watch those Ohio jobs become Wuhan jobs.
