Dark Days of Media Unity: How Journalists Chose One Word for the Republican Convention

Stephen Green reads a long list of news media headlines about the Republican Convention and every one of them uses the word ‘Dark’. Ever wonder how widely-scattered journalists all chose that one word?

A pretty straight forward reason. Joe Biden’s speach was basically “I am the light, Trump is the dark”. Thus a few days later, RNC is “dark”

The only darkness I’ve seen so far at the RNC, has been the few references to the reality currently seen in the streets of America, and that darkness is being brought to you by the Left. Otherwise I have found the RNC to be a beacon of light and hope, so let us hope that beacon is allowed to keep shining!!!

Steve, I was definitely aware of the term and basic meaning behind Journolist, but is there a book or good reference to get more details behind this really really bad beginning of the decline of journalism?
I addressed this to Steve, but I know he’s ‘so busy‘ that he rarely answers, so….
I’ll toss it to our amazingly brilliant and well read group of BWDC members.
Any sources to learn more about Journolist?
Thanks all.

I do not have a book recommendation but a question if you remember the actual scandal the spawned the term in the first place? I think it was around 2004 the someone on a ln email list of that name leaked its existence and some of messages that proved the conspiracy.
News articles (from real news places) might be a better source of info than a book, though I am sure there are several.

Steve, it appears that you are out of uniform for this session. Bill and Scott are wearing black (dark) shirts but you are not. I thought you guys coordinated that sort of thing during the backstage sessions. ๐Ÿ™‚ Or perhaps you are so dedicated that you have been wearing the same shirt for all 4 DNC and 3 RNC blogging sessions, with no time out for laundering??
During the 50’s or early 60’s my mother, who was not a racist, used the example of prejudice against Shylock the Jew from The Merchant of Venice to highlight that prejudice against blacks was equally wrong (“if you prick us, do we not bleed?” is what I most remember). But she also did use the word “darky” 2 or 3 times in my hearing, a reflection of the social milieu in which she grew up during the 20’s and 30’s.

Another demonstration that the demented left of left believe in magical incantations. They pretend that by simply asserting a word, reality will bend to their whim and the word changes what is and can be.

However, one use of the word doesn’t seem to work. Hence, they keep repeating it in hopes that simple repetition of the incantation will cause reality to bend to their whim.

When that also does not work, it clearly is Trump’s fault. Hence, Trump and his camp followers must be destroyed. That way, they believe, their incantation will work.

When that doesn’t work, they feel highly destructive riots by the demented left of left are totally justified. Yet, it still doesn’t work no matter how much of civilization is destroyed. They are surprised.

Actually, reality is a total bitch. It stubbornly stays exactly what it is and is not exactly what it is not. It totally ignores the whims of the demented left of left. In the end, reality is not optional.

This is why we will win in the end. Our challenge is to avoid becoming collateral damage in their war on reality. That may not be so easy.

Lionell, this is a dark, dark, dark, … dark, dark, dark comment. /sarc ๐Ÿ™‚
Left of left is a good phrase but when abbreviated as LOL we may be at risk of destroying an otherwise very useful acronym.
But, YES! “REALITY IS NOT OPTIONAL” should be in caps, boldfaced, and underlined. Maybe we can find a jurisdiction where they would let us paint that on the street in 12 foot high red-white-and-blue letters??!! Isn’t that the sign that they post over the entrance to The School of Hard Knocks?
Hey, you BWDC guys. My Safe Space tee shirt is about worn out. Any chance you can produce some more BWDC shirts with the above phrase emblazoned across the front?? I’d buy 3 or 4 at least.

I just checked: RE NON EST LIBITUM is the Roman translation for Reality Is Not Optional, should anyone want to pursue a physical or on-line version of The School of Hard Knocks.

George and Lionell, Left Of Left=LOL. That’s a T-Shirt I’ll be printing up tonight. Background might be a screen cap from the DNC’s Steven Stills and the Wizard of West Hollywood’s version of “For What It’s Worth”…

Tim,
I had taken a literal view of LOL as an abbreviation, but now I see your double flavored meaning. Great insight. I also just now realized (unfortunately?) that Reality is Not Optional is abbreviated RINO, so that goes against the core intent/ meaning behind the phrase.
If you are in the shirt printing business and the price is right, I would still buy 3 or 4 of the Reality printed version. And maybe you can get a contract from BWDC? Maybe with a picture of a waving flag and the university entrance I mentioned above with the Latin version overhead?? Something to cogitate.
