The chaos of interruption, insults and shouting, made the first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden an aberration in electoral history. Bill Whittle, Scott Ott and Stephen Green do the post-debate analysis.

Biden WAS wearing a wire. There’s some great pics on twitter with what they’re telling him in real time and photos of him being wired up. check it out.
Chris Wallace was the big loser.
I 100% DISAGREE with the conclusions drawn from the Debate from Right Angle.
I went to You Tube and watch the Biden Ryan encounter where Ryan allowed the school yard BULLY to take his lunch money, constantly LIE time after time and point after point, de constantly mocked Ryan and all Ryan could do was “TURN THE OTHER CHEEK” and let the lion eat him.
President Trump is a Fighter and Confronter and will stand on the battlefield to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN even while many in the RHINO WHIG Do NOTHING liters run will their head buried far up where the Sun cannot shine.
Biden LIED And LIED and LIED. Nearly everything that erupted from his heRTLESS AND SOULLESS BODY Ws a LIE. He did not talk about Substance and how specifically he would implement Policy to make the Nation and We, the People BETTER.
.Let us not forget that thee televised back and froths are not Debates BUT are sound bites on steroids. In addition, the “moderator was a combination joke and clown. Mr. Wallace should renounce his journalism and call it what it exactly was, and that would be a traitor to his profession.
Finally, I do not believe that there are many minds that are unsure of their Vote. Further, MOST of the thinking from the so called “experts” which are proving daily to be NOTHING more than HACKS, very VERY Biased HACKS with very Limited Understanding and Knowledge of what is really happening simple because they are trapped in an unescapable box of “Ignorance is NEVER an excuse for STUPIDITY.”
My final FINAL is that the Silent Majority has awakened and not become woke. Minorities have seen the Light and come to the realization that Donald J. Trump is looking out for their BEST interests and not the Democratic Socialist and the Party of insanity and ANTI-AMERICANISM.
“The chickens are coming home to roost” and it’s not the RHINOs.
I only wish Trump would follow all your tips for a better debate outcome.
Re: Trump not letting Biden finish

Thanks, Scott, for quoting my comment. It came from the heart and, even moreso, the mind.
Once again, you have blanket permission to use my name any time you want to use my stuff.
Michael, having heard your ‘Manifesto for Rational Adult Existence’ I would also like permission to quote you. I am in the process of establishing my own website dedicated to helping those ‘shallow people’ who are actually shackled minds longing to break free of their intellectual binders and become free, independent Adult Human Beings which requires the effort you have so eloquently surmised in your statement; developing a rational world view based on serious study AND accepting the responsibility of doing so. You, sir, are a kindred Philosopher like myself. You are not alone. You are just momentarily ‘disconnected’ and in need of a little “CQ, CQ, CQ”ing with like minds. My website will have my full name when it comes up and my by public blog will be entitled, “The View From Orbit” I am/will always be BW member as well. Sincerely requested, JCR
Sure, permission granted. I’m always kinda stunned when people want to quote my stuff. Thanks!
Thanks Mike, BTW, please check out my (1st) Blog post on this debate “The Question heard ’round the world” and see if you don’t agree there are more thoughtful people in the world than you first thought. Cheers! 🙂 JCR
Where do I find it?
As I heard it Trump was asked if he “was willing to condemn white supremacists and militia groups”, and he answered “Sure”, and when Wallace continued in the same vein Trump again responded “Sure I’m willing to do it”, so I think that was positively responsive to the question. He then correctly followed up stating to the effect that the violence he saw was all coming from the Left, which at least 99.9+% of it is.
So then the question becomes, why didn’t Wallace next ask Biden if he would denounce Antifa & BLM as being the source of the vast majority of violence, murder and mayhem?
Problem is, he needed to be as explicit as Scott said. If he’s not, he will be interpreted to mean the opposite of what he actually meant. That’s what happened, too.
(This happens to every politician, not just Trump. Remember when everybody on the right was going off about how Biden got the Pledge of Allegiance wrong? Well, he didn’t. He wasn’t reciting the pledge, he was paraphrasing it to make a point. None of the commentators on the right included the context. All sides do it.)
I must admit that I am becoming quite weary of the carping about DJT failings as a candidate in reference to his manner, stance, speech, etc. “Why is he so rude?” “Why does he tweet so often and brashly?” “Why doesn’t he act more presidential?” “Why does he interrupt?” “Why does he make up insulting nicknames for others?”
I also lost what little respect I had for Chris Wallace last night. Trump was correct when he said he was debating 2 people. He interrupted Trump 76 times compared to 15 for Biden. Biden had about twice the amount of time that Trump was allowed. Every time Biden got into trouble Chris jumped in to help him out. He did not demand answers from Biden, e.g. Packing the Court. As for Trump, as Steve mentioned, Chris worded the questions and collated issues to load the scales against Trump. And as for the White Supremacy question, Trump answered it TWICE. (Look at the tape or transcript). Yet Chris kept hammering on it. Also several pix are available showing Biden was wired. He kept pushing a small wire back under his right lapel and had a small microphone taped to his left wrist that you could see peeking out from time to time and B. holding it up by his head.
I agree with the beautiful sentiments worded by one of our member family. It was lovely, poetic, greatly to be desired. But it unfortunately is not the 2020 post-Covid, post-anarchy, ongoing Resistance in which we are living. We have to face the situation head on or all will be lost.
Fantastic essay. Thank you!
I agree with you. When I said in the comment that Scott quoted that people need to deal with the reality as it is, I meant all of reality. That would include Trump being who he is, and I think he is the right man at the right time for our current circumstances.
I also made a comment earlier today on a different video about what I would lead with if I were a debate moderator. To summarize, I would tell the participants not to violate the rules or to interrupt or talk over each other, or risk censure and embarrassment at my hands. But when it’s their turn to talk I would let them state their views in whatever way they choose. Trump would hear nothing from me for being himself, Biden would get no help, and vice-versa. After all, people deserve to see exactly what their choosing between and the candidates’ manner is a big part of that.
Is there any way we can nominate you to that position, Michael?
Worth a shot, I guess. No idea how to do it, though. And what are the odds? lol
Think ab0ut this. Can you think of another country where you could get away with telling the leader of the country to SHUT UP and call Him/Her a CLOWN or RACIST and not disappear forever. Freedom Is WONDERFUL.
One way Democrats get rich while in office and after is the bogus no-show multi million dollar ‘book deal’ or now Netflix ‘deal’ . Seems to me like a flat out payoff, are the Obamas going through scripts and making suggestions , do you think? Are they so good at this that they’re worth millions?
Scott,
If you go back and review the debate, Biden Interrupted Trump first.
I agree Trump was a bit tired, and perhaps a little off his game because of it. The man’s been giving rallies in a different state every night for the last week after putting in a full day of work. I realize that the rallies are generally a source of energy for him, but I think next time his team needs to find a better balance between getting him rested and enjoying some rallies leading up to the debate.
Meanwhile, Joe had a Lid on for the entire week before the debate. Even then, despite his cortisol shots, he was clearly flagging during the second half and Wallace was covering for him. It’s too bad that most people had turned off the TV by then and didn’t see him having trouble finishing sentences. (Agreed, Trump should let him talk more, even when everything coming out of his mouth is an infuriating lie.)
With hindsight, I feel obliged to state that the President must have been “tired and off his game a bit” during the first debate because he had already been infected with SARS-CoV-2, not just because he’d been holding rallies every night.
I am now looking forward optimistically to the second debate.
Another potential killshot: “The white supremecists endorsed Biden, and hate me. The law enforcement groups endorsed me–first Republican evah!–and hate Biden.”
I wish he’d also taken the tack of arguing that he’s really bad at being a racist, all those black and hispanic employment figures, all those black people he let of jail that Kamala and Joe put in jail, all that HBC funding, all those opportunity zones, etc.
Thanks for posting this and for the extra hours you logged in to do it!
I think none of us know what it’s like to go through what Mr. Trump goes through on any given day. Nothing he does is ever good enough. Even his supporters have their critiques of his style that never seem to be satisfied, and that’s the side that wants him to be re-elected!
Maybe after all this time we should stop wishing he’d be different and learn to appreciate what he’s done and be his ambassadors? He did so much that is worthwhile for this nation, in spite of all that has been said about him and done to him. I know I’d have given up and gone home long ago. That debate was a good snapshot of what our world is like. We try to aspire to more than that, to lift up our heads and look for the beauty and truth that is out there. We don’t have that world anymore, and haven’t had for many years thanks to the growth of Leftism. Some of us fight the battle with prayer, some with reason and humor, some with bare knuckles, but we need all of it to carry the battle forward. And, I’m just so grateful that in spite of it all, Mr. Trump has stood by the principles of protecting the unborn, honoring the people who serve, and standing up for this nation.
I have days when I want to behave just like Mr. Trump did last night, to push back, good and hard, with both barrels, on the lies and treachery. So I can’t really hold the President to task for something I’d really like to do myself!
Bill, I thought Trump missed a killshot when Biden said that Trump didn’t care about “you, the American people.” Trump could have shot back that 47 years in Washington and the only people Joe had made better off were the members of his family.
No matter what Trump said, Biden said, that’s a lie
No matter what Trump said, what Biden said was a lie.
I’m Sorry. Joe Biden did not go “Toe to Toe” for 90 minutes. It’s a wonderful thought, but going Toe to Toe would have been a real debate in thoughtful outlay of plans and ideas. I’m so over the cable news style of pitting people against each other with the knowledge that it’s going to be a squabble fest.
I’m. Over. It.
I’m Sorry. Chris Wallace did not frame questions in the same way to one side compared to the other. I watched it. Now, I want to study the transcripts of only Wallace’s questions/comments. I’m with Stephen Green on his point where he lost his cool on Wallace during the drunkblog. Green wrote what I felt at the time.
Finally, I just watched you 3 have differing opinions of what all 3 of you saw last night with your 6 eyeballs. Yet, NONE of you talked over, nor interrupted or insulted or eye rolled while the other was speaking. You listened, you thought about what the other guy was saying. You respectfully, perhaps, agreed to disagree a little. It’s respectful. It’s enlightening, and It’s exactly the reason why I support BWDC with my membership.
And BOTH of those candidates could have benefited from watching Bill’s very old but very wise Afterburner dedicated to teaching us about Game Theory and the Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma. Instead of Tit for Tat, which would have benefited both of them, as well as all Americans watching….. we got a nonstop flurry of TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT.
Tim, Scott is correct that part of a moderator’s job is to challenge the candidates, but Wallace, with one or two exceptions, only challenged Trump. He would ask Biden a question, then let him speak. He would ask Trump a question, and immediately interrupt and challenge him.
Agreed, and Agreed. Thanks Brian. You’re right.
The framing of Wallace’s questions was also horrible. You are correct that the questions were intended to elicit spats instead of explore nuances of differences in policy and position. Wallace lost me when he brought up Charlottesville–which has been entirely debunked on multiple occasions, and Wallace KNOWS IT. Trump should have stopped him in his tracks and pointed out that Charlottesville has been used as a media slur against him and set the record straight immediately.
Right, he also didn’t attack the ‘losers’ hoax immediately but several minutes later when it wasn’t clear what he was referring to
A couple quick bullet points:
My wife was convinced that Joe had a “hearing aid” and when he looked down he was listening.
PDT should have absolutely pushed the fact that Covid deaths are mostly elderly and mostly from the tri-state are of NYC and directly a result of Cuomo’s and DeBlasios’s policy. Should have pointed out that in addition to Joe’s xenophobia comment, Pelois and Deblasio were telling people at the end of Feb and Early march to go out and enjoy.
He also should have talked about Federalism. The state govs are the ones keeping things closed. Also that we are now trying to keep positive tests down rather than hopsitalizations. Moved the goal posts.
Definitely should have let Biden speak. Hope he fixes that next time.
I understand he doesn’t like to practice debate, but he needs to think through these things in some format and have responses prepared for the obvious question.
Yeah! Exactly what Ralph’s Wife said!
(Tim looking down. pauses, looks up then says)
Oh, yeah-yeah….Ralph made those comments, not Ralph’s wife.
_
But seriously, you’re right about mentioning Federalism. State Governors were given the freedom and responsibility to manage their state’s responses, knowing that the federal government would be there with resources and money if the states requested it.
After watching the debate for a little more than five minutes last night, I gave up, given the childish antics displayed by all on the stage.
My wife, being a life-long student and teacher of American history and politics, lasted awhile longer; but, when I asked her opinion of the spectacle, all she said was, “Whatever happened to statesmanship?”
Her simple question summed-up the absurdity of the circus performance of three “clowns” on a closed stage.
