The first 2020 presidential debate quickly devolved into an uncontrollable bickering and shouting match, with moderator Chris Wallace frantically failing. With two more debates on the slate before the election, Scott Ott asks Bill Whittle how to save the next Trump vs. Biden meeting so that voters actually learn something of value to inform their work on November 3.

Bill Whittle Network ยท How to Save the Next Trump vs. Biden Debate: Dump the Moderator

After the first-debate fiasco, adding “more tools” to the format was suggested. MY idea for short baseball bats was rejected. Debates are a media money maker and very little else, they change very few minds.
I’m fond of the idea of TWO moderators, perhaps Rachel M asking questions of Trump and Rush L asking Biden questions, which they would have to answer.
NO CANDIDATE will take that deal, they enjoy PRETENDING to much.
Not have a moderator who is completely and shamelessly in the tank for one of the candidates.
The debates are nothing more than media shit shows that serve only the media companies. They have nothing to do with the voters. By this time in the election cycle it does not matter anymore. Minds are already made up. The illusion is that they are fighting over the 1-2% of the undecided voters, you know, the folks that are not going to get their asses up to vote anyway.
The networks put on the show for ratings, the candidats to feed their egos and prop up their parties (for the local elections), and we suckers eat up the bread and circuses that they pass of as “important political discourse”.
I bet they have a meter back stage that goes up the more out of control and louded the debate gets!
It IS entertaining theater of the absurd.
Scott Ott gets my vote as moderator. He did a great job moderating several BW.com ZOOM meetings and nobody died (altho rumor has it a few still claim they died a little inside). And Bill even attended a few of those meetings and Scott even kept Bill under control (you can pay me later Scott).
I like Bill’s idea of having two moderators. Each side would pick their own moderator and each one would ask their questions and each candidate would have to answer.
As for who the left would pick, could careless. As for the Patriot side, I have some choices:
I want to see more civility brought to the process but I also want hard hitting questions.
Last night I saw on twitter (don’t recommend it unless you’re interested) several tweets showing how Biden was wired for incoming messages. Those dems will stoop so low!! It’s disgusting!!
Does anyone know how I can include the tweets in my comment??
President Trump should ignore Biden and the moderator and instead spend hi two MI it’s repeating his many accomplishments as president! He should speak to the camera and completely ignore everything else!
Equating Chris Wallace to Sister Mary Elephant from Cheech & Chong is both accurate and inarguable. The guy is a putz and a hack, he’s no Mike Wallace and nothing at all like his father. He got his father’s face, his mother’s gonads and the fortitude of a wet noodle..
THAT IS OFFENSIVE!
As the spokesperson for the wet noodle community, I can assure you. We have much more intestinal fortitude than Chris Wallace…
FYI … real men eat wet noodles for lunch.
I bet that sounded much better in your head than if you say it out loud ๐
Why does Scott keep insisting that Wallace was not in Biden’s camp?? Wallace kept bailing Biden out every time he got into a tough spot – like when Trump asked Biden to cite one law enforcement organization that supported supported him, rather than Trump. Wallace jumped in and switched gears so Joe wouldn’t have to answer the question!
Scott’s job here is to play the liberal hack. The character Scott plays is 180 degrees from the real Scott Ott.
The moderator of the debates represents We the People. A president works for We the People. We the People are the ones trying to decide who we will hire for the job of president. That’s why the moderator needs to maintain control of the debate, so that we can get information that we need.
If I were the debate moderator, I would begin the debate with the following statement:
“Gentlemen, I am here as moderator of this debate to stand in for the American people, to elicit from each of you important information that the people need to decide which of you they will hire for the temporary position of President of the United States.
“As the representative of your bosses, the people, in order to accomplish that goal I will dictate the direction and tone of this debate. My job is to provide the topics for debate and to see to it that you both conduct yourselves in a way that best provides the information the people need. I will have nothing to say about the content of whatever either of you say. I will not offer any commentary or opinions about your views. My questions will exhibit no bias. I will simply ensure that the issues are introduced and that you each address them. The people will decide if your answers are sufficient.
“What I will do is make sure that this debate is measured and fair so that each of you has an equal chance to present those views, whatever they might be. To that end, I will keep things civil. I will ensure that the debate rules are followed. I will ensure that each of you has the agreed amount of time to speak. I will require you to remain within those time constraints. I will not permit you to interrupt or to talk over one another, or me, at any time. When I speak, both of you will stop speaking and listen to me. If either or both of you are out of order and I have to shout you down to restore proper decorum, I. Will. Do. So. Whether you suffer the indignity, embarrassment, and consequences of my having to do that to you is up to you.
“For all intents and purposes here tonight, gentlemen, I am the American People. You will respect us or we will shut you up.
“Let’s begin.”
I would add to your weaponry as moderator the microphone kill switch for all debaters. Each debater will be confined to the equivalent of a cone of silence, so that none of We The People must endure the insanity we witnessed last night.
I would rather stand up (literally) as the voice of the people and put them in their place. Specifically for Trump and Biden, I would easily be able to do that. Neither of them would be able to handle it. Guaranteed.
Furthemore, shoe phones must be used. After all, Biden phoned it in…
I would go with that if we could find someone balanced enough to represent all of the people, and not just the strident 35% of one side. Bill’s idea about two moderators, from the left and right, might get closer to that.
I’ll do it.
Here is what I think. A moderator should introduce a topic (any topic) and say: “You have 20 minutes to discuss this issue”. The moderator then shuts up and does nothing for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, a loud buzzer rings long enough to interrupt any stop any conversation going on. The moderator then introduces a new topic and says: “You now have 20 minutes to discuss topic xyz”. This cycle repeats about 4 or 5 times to get in maybe 6 or so topics. Each topic getting 20 minutes of beating between the two debate participants.
Two words:
Two more words:
MORTAL COMBAT !!!
I already do not accept what “they” provide in these forums. I reject the premises behind the loaded questions, which are always designed to trip the President and bolster his opponent. I couldn’t watch more than 5 minutes of that epic $#!^ show. Wallace lived up to his reputation as an acolyte of leftist tyranny.
Yes. Trump should have let Biden talk more. But Wallace wasn’t gonna let that happen. Every time Biden started faltering, Chris would jump in and save him.
You are absolutely correct. Unfortunately, there is a large portion of our voting population that does not have the mental capacity to recognize that glaring fact.
I wanna see Bill Whittle, Dave Rubin and Razorfist moderate.
I could actually deal with Rubin.
We wouldn’t have had this problem if Orange Man Bad would just stand there quietly a listen to Biden and the Moderator frame the argument. And then, when Trump does open his yap, politely accept the claims (lies) of the other two. Like that nice Mormon fellow.
It is impossible to discuss any complex coherent idea in two minutes. It is even less so if there is a free-for-all 5 minute discussion afterward. Hence, the only outcome of the first so called debate was nothing but a train wreck.
The so called moderator selected the questions and determined who could answer without being questioned. The “agreed to moderator” was totally and completely biased against Trump and give Biden creampuff treatment. This further guaranteed that the first so called debate could be nothing but a train wreck.
Because of these two things, Trump could only get his message out by interrupting both Biden AND the so called moderator. Thereby adding several other trains to the total train wreck.
I blame the train wreck on the so called political elite who agreed to the terms of the so called debate: both Republican and Democratic. It is the political elite of BOTH parties that we need to eliminate. They need to be sent packing never to be heard from again FOREVER! They add nothing to the conversation but chaos and destruction of anything that makes America, America.
It is a bad day that your “friends” are as bad or worse than your “enemies”. The so called debate was a huge bad day for America!
Spot on, Sir!
The whole epic $#!^ show was rigged against the President from the start. It is disgusting how far from rational discourse that the population of our beloved country have fallen.
