Civil Rights and justice reform groups have fought for years to eliminate cash bail as it discriminates against the poor, primarily people of color. Now some of those same groups team with bail bondsmen to fight Proposition 25, which some say replaces racism with more racism.

This is just another example of the left’s pursuit of utopia through the tyranny of experts and algorithms. We can eliminate the bias of malign humans and perfect the system by leaving it to experts and algorithms! Don’t you see?

For the sake of argument, I am going to presume that the rationale for this is as Scott conjectured and is for the sake of those who are arrested for a non-violent crime, plead not guilty, maybe even are not guilty, and on whom any form of bail is a true burden. Additionally, spending time in jail awaiting trial will cause those things that Scott enumerated. There is a fairly simple solution. More than one in the few minutes of thought.
1) place an ankle monitor on the accused. No need for house arrest, they can come and go freely. It is just there so the courts will know where they are if they miss the court date. A caveat to this. If one misses a court date without severe extenuating circumstance, then this should be the same as changing to a guilty plea.
2) In addition or instead of, use one of the phone apps to track. Remember this is for non-violent, non-repeat offenders who intend to come to their court date.
If you are a flight risk or violent or repeat offender, this system should not apply.Bail or house arrest with monitor is a better option.
I’m not sure I’d go with the phone app idea, as that is too easy to scam. The ankle monitor idea occurred to me as well though, so you could have a multi choice option: bail, monitor, jail.
The right to a speedy trial though seems to be somewhat not honored as people wait over a year before being released. I can see the need for that in especially complex cases of a dangerous matter, but I cannot see that our prosecutors are so overwhelmed that petty theft would have to wait that long. Either there is video evidence of you boosting the pack of cigs, a witness or three to the event or some other simple evidence for the simple crime. The cops arrested you for some reason. Two weeks while everyone remembers and done, unless they do take that little time and the year long waits that are mentioned in the news are the outliers.
I already voted NO on 25 here in Leftafornia. No on everything that even had the word tax in it, which was almost everything else. Only Yes was 22….to keep the Uber and Lyft drivers and independent workers working. So many people have already voted. Stimulus will not make a difference. The Left who get the stimulus will laugh that they scammed the Prez and they didn’t vote for him. It is like buying votes. Only WE pay the bill. Reparations? hmmm. Start with that word and who knows where it will lead. Especially here on the Left Coast. Could be a precedent.
I feel that no matter who wins this election, there will be riots, fire, explosions and blood. Half the country will be angry. As if we all aren’t mad enough with this plague. I’d rather had Trump in command of that civil war instead of Slow Joe…or Harris.
Scott, November 3 is not The Last Election Day™ in Pennsylvania. The courts have ruled that mail-in ballots received up to three days after that day must be counted, even if they don’t have a postmark. Imagine: Trump wins PA again by a narrow margin, then the Dems rush to submit no-postmark new ballots on the 4th that then have to be counted toward the vote totals. Ballots submitted after election day will count.
What’s more, it was John Roberts who allowed that plan to stand. This is why we need Justice Barrett sworn in ASAP.
Yeah. The left bemoans a 6 – 3 court when it’s really going to be 5 – 4 at best.
Relase criminals. Arrest people defending themselves or their homes.

The computer program was selected by the left of left. The data that the computer program processed was selected by the left of left. The conclusions presented by that program is the result of the questions the left of left asked of the program. All of which makes them totally responsible for the outcomes.
The computer didn’t do it. It is a mindless robot simply following orders. It does only and exactly what it is told to do. Not what you think you told it. Not what you wanted to tell it. Not what you should have told it to do. It follows exactly what you actually told it to do.
The left of left, as usual, try the blame that which is not them for the consequences. They made the choices so they CAUSED the consequences. They must be held responsible but won’t.
We the People will once again give them a pass because they had something called “good intentions”. Sadly, We the People fail to understand that saying you have “good intentions” is not the same as having “good intentions”. Also, We the People fail to understand that the “good intentions” no matter what they are said to be very likely will have anything but good results.
Reality is what it is and no amount of wishing that it be otherwise will work. Changing a name does not change the thing. Changing the definition of a concept does not change the concept to what it is not. Any such attempt will fail CATASTROPICALLY. Everyone will pay the price.
Is this what you want? I don’t. Sadly, this is exactly what I think will happen.

There was recently a 7.5 earthquake off the coast of Alaska, triggering tsunami warnings. I was sad to see that the earthquake wasn’t about 2000 miles south and 400 miles east of there.
