Another good show. What Bill said is an accurate portrayal of what most American’s want. However, that is the very thing Democrats are seeking to do away with. Democrats want to stifle independence because that makes us less dependent on them. To keep themselves in power, there must always be a crisis for them to save us from. The last thing they can allow is for us to save ourselves.

An optimistic note from another quarter is the book The Survival of the Friendliest by Hare and Woods. (Obviously, the friendliest salesperson prevails.) The theory is that human success is due to our ability to cooperate, not our impulse to dominate. Also, studies have determined, according to this book, that lecturing people about cooperating with different groups actually exacerbates divisions. Inter-group friendships foster cooperation. This should be a blow against sensitivity training, though that’s a counter-narrative to Big Media’s favored story. The book also de-legitimizes the “patriarchy” accusations. Successful progenitors are cooperative, the true import of Darwin’s “survival of the fittest.” Happy New Decade!

Darwin didn’t come up with “survival of the fittest,” although he did adopt it in later works.

If you think about it, though,it really should be “survival of the survivers.” You might have the fittest chipmunk ever but if a random tree branch falls and crushes it, it ain’t gonna reproduce. Only the ones that don’t die before procreation will pass on their genes and they’re not always going to be the fittest.

I did see an article about the vertical farm (may or may not be the one Bill saw, was on Instapundit a few days ago). The major drawback of that particular farm was it mostly grew kale and other leafy green vegetables and such but was ill suited to corn or wheat or carrots. That meant it was not great for good human food though I suppose we could use them to grow food for our food.

On the other hand, it is one example of the ingenuity and the human spirit that Bill reminded us has solved every challenge we have faced so far. We are the one species that can survive, if not thrive, in any climate and location on this Earth. The arctic to the subarctic, mountain low oxygen highs to high pressure oceanic lows, humid tropics to arid deserts, we have adapted means to survive. Any claimed famine and overpopulation has been met with better farming techniques and people only starve to due to political (war) disruptions to transportation (and EPA or OSHA and FDA limits on reselling cooked or touched food. I suspect we could feed all of the homeless in the US just with what we throw out as past date).

We Shall Overcome

One of my favorite Dave Rubin shows is his long interview with Bill. IT was during Dave’s transition away from the dark side. The most important thing said was a statement Bill made: (and I paraphrase) “We (Dave and Bill) could sit down with a group of our liberal and conservative friends and, in no more than two hours, come up with a platform that 85% of America would agree on.”
So do it.
My extremely liberal brother in law and I made a two way, 12 hours each way, car trip. We discovered that, for the most part, we both wanted the same things for America and her people. We differed somewhat on the way to achieve it, bit the goals were almost identical. The simple thing to acknowledge is, there was no profit for either of us to fester a disagreement.

Thank you Bill for the uplifting messege, we will prevail in keeping our country free, and the defeat of the socialist party will bring us back to liberty and our right to self government.

Loved the aged pics and the positive message!
That’s America, get knocked down . . . get right back up, fix whatever is wrong, and keep going!
Be Lady Liberty . . . Be the Bald Eagle . . . never kneel . . . never stay down.

Those vertical farms were developed in Israel… we now have 3 supermarkets with adjacent farms in their parking lots… Haven’t gone to see it yet… we are supposedly in lockdown…
Thanks for all your wisdom, humour and optimism…
In Hebrew we say… Avarnu et Paro, naavor gam et zeh
or… if we made it through Pharaoh… we will make it thru this too…

I think so… will be posting another post of my own, but most of the “vertical” farms people will talk about are hydroponic systems, where there is little dirt and the crops are grown from watered roots. This reduces weight and makes them more easily built up instead of out. Also the water can be nutrient rich (accomplished a variety of ways, often through fish farms) and the flowing water more easily feeds the crops instead of flowing through soil (at least I think that’s the other reason).

As I understand it, terracing just gives you flat places to plant, which is easier on humans, and more controls water flow while it runs down the hill side.

Thank you.

I will look out for that Post.

My personal ambition when I have a garden again will be to plant posts and a frame that over the winter will allow me to grow vegetables in a greenhouse.

I would use plastic sheeting as the glass

On a small scale like that, there are many plans available online for vegetable gardens. You might also look into something called a “cold frame” though I think that is less for growing and more wintering over or starting early in summer.

Other people have used lengths of eaves troughs for a cheap hydroponic vertical garden of sorts. If you have a drip area at the bottom of the sloping trough it will drip down to the one below and the water can work its way from the top where you initially water the plants to the bottom without having to stand there with a hose or watering can.

there was a great deal of terrace farming in ancient Israel… on hillsides … to stop soil erosion

I am with you on having an uplifting attitude about the future of America. We, unlike so many other countries, have a good history and ideas to look back on and return to, only with even more resources to fuel that return. And to do other than look forward with hope is to sit down on the curb and bawl till it’s over. I do not plan to be one of those triggered crybabies.
Just as an addendum, God is still on His throne, and He has to be way past disgusted with what many have made of this country–a place of murder of unborn children (and in the desires of some on the left, born children), a place of perversions that in the Bible are called abominations, a place of surrender to hideous failed ideas that have replaced Him with the government as the “giver of all good things,” a place where feelings are all that matters regardless of facts, a place where it is OK to lie if it furthers one’s narrative, and on and on. This may be the time for God’s judgment on this country that He so wonderfully established, even with all our mistakes. But for me, I want to be on His side in holding fast for the Godly principles and purposes for which He did His great work.

I think God would probably be sad at most all the countries of the world. Many are in the same boat we’re in or fundamentally worse. This is what we do with the gift of Free Will. 🙁

Scott;
Your ten year idea is hopeful but likely not achievable because of conditioning.
The ‘troops’ of the left are so conditioned that they can not even consider a belief that differs from theirs and those that control the ‘troops’ are so addicted to their power that they will not consider anything that will diminish that power.

Scott, I realize that the world needs optimism such as that which you project, but we already know what the leftists of the world want. They want the subjugation of majority of people into one camp so that they can reside in the opulent other camp. This is about power and control for the betterment of themselves. There is no compromise with individuals or collectives that think that way.

At least Montana hasn’t turned blue yet. Colorado is full-on into the virus. I call it CommieRado. As Bill said . . . how to stop the virus spread? That is the question. I would change the “resident” laws of each state to like 7-10 years. Once a transplant has been there that long, they can vote. Not before!

When it’s all over I think that 2021 will make 2020 look like 2019. But as these guys point out, what the year will be is up to us.
Happy New Year, everybody!

Looks like I’m going to be the pessimist. I stopped making plans for the future 20 years ago. I told my kids not to have kids. (They did anyway). I reduced my life to essentials. I withdrew from all my friends and associates. Not all those things at the same time but that’s where I am now.

I don’t think we come back from this.

I’m all in on MB2A but this is my last try. The people of this country (I won’t call them Americans even though there are still some remaining) will not even try to fix things (except for those few Americans – they will). They won’t try because most of them think nothing is wrong and most of the rest can conceive of neither what other way there can be nor how to go about changing things.

Richard Mitchell predicted this. He didn’t know he was making a prediction when he wrote The Underground Grammarian but that’s what he was doing. We have turned out a nation of morons. They will never understand, or try to understand, the peril that they’re in.

I include myself in the moron category. Every day I learn more and more how my education (and my parents, to a slightly lesser degree) completely failed me. I don’t know even a tiny fraction of what I should know by now. I didn’t know until that 20 years ago that there were things I didn’t know I didn’t know, nor that I needed to know them. I’ve been trying to play catch-up since then and I have learned a lot that was missing, but I have also learned enough to know that there’s very little chance it will matter.

In 10 years I hope to still be alive and as healthy as I can make myself. That’ll be all and that will have to be enough.

I fear I have the same low opinion of far too many fellow inhabitants. I look at the people I work with, and it is positively scary just how little they think. In the end, though, they are probably happier than me. Because, as the saying goes, if ignorance is bliss, it is foolish to be wise.

What both of you say is true, unfortunately. I don’t have much confidence in the general population. The leftist plan to educate i.e. brainwash America into mind-numbed peasants, too ill-educated to have any real knowledge of history or moral values has been successful. It created where we are today, and it started before most of the Boomer generation was even born. We lost our religion, or moral compass and our minds. Well, most have anyway. Not you or me, or our fellow members and about 70 million others, but we certainly are not the majority. The majority will thoughtlessly accept UBI and their Soma and live empty, meaningless lives, peasants under the boot of the rulers. Utopia? Pshaw!! Distopia is the future.

That said, America has been through great turbulence at the start of and many times since her inception, and survived and prospered. Every time our prosperity makes us soft and selfish and lazy, we end up where we are today. Dour as my outlook is, I want to believe Bill is right. The slap in the face of 2020 has awakened us patriots. We just have to do our part in whatever way we can.

To paraphrase Jefferson, I would rather be exposed to the inconveniencies attending too much [knowledge] than those attending too small a degree of it.

I do not wish to give offense, but not having children feels like going too far. Children are the future worth fighting for.

This country has a history of immigrants working like dogs and being treated as such so their children have a chance for better.

Most recently, immigrants from the Soviet Union who were doctors there have worked as cab drivers here and been happy to do so for that reason.

Mind you, the American people will have to learn the difference between Opportunity and Outcome.

Agreed, but when I said that I didn’t think there was going to be a future worth living in. I still don’t but now I’m fighting in (what I think is) a last-ditch effort to save the world. If it succeeds, then the future will be at least livable. If we fail, I don’t even want to think about what my grandchildren will have to do to survive.

Also, note that you referred to “immigrants from the Soviet Union.” The evil empire fell 30 years ago when it was still worth it to come here and struggle to get by because you still had a chance to make a good life. Things have changed, radically.

Anything that has radically changed can radically change.

It depends more than a little bit on how radical the people who want them to change are willing to be.

I was 31 before I figured out my whole upbringing had been a lie. Nothing I’d been taught had worked the way my parents, teachers, pastors, etc. said it would.
It was a believable lie. I don’t blame my parents or others because they were merely teaching me what they knew or had been brainwashed to believe.
We wake up to the lie when we’re ready, or we don’t.
Then we start changing the beliefs we agreed to from the time we were born. All we have to do is use our Free Will to change what isn’t working. Some have the strength to do so, most do not.
Some people are so comfortable inside their box, they don’t know how to think about changing, are too lazy, too scared, etc. I stayed at a job for way longer than I should have because I “had bills to pay”. It took me a couple of years to get happy again.
Keanu Reaves once said The Matrix movie was actually real life. I believe that. It is set up in a way that fills us with “expected” norms. Religions often scare us into submission and adherence. (Not the Bible, but how the churches interpret it or add their own rules.) Meant to keep us obedient and hide our true nature.
I suspect the left would act different if they were alone. They wouldn’t have to “posture” in front of their “friends” for fear of being disavowed from the hive. I think many are becoming “closet conservatives”, many didn’t vote for Biden. Obvious from the sheer number of votes that had to be “created” from the election.
Anyway, I’ll stand with others or by myself if I have to, but I’m not kneeling and I’m not submitting to an RNA vax. I’ll just give them a double FU sign and whatever results from it.
I was born in America and I will die like an American. That’s it.

I knew by 14 that something was very wrong with my upbringing. I didn’t figure all of it out until my late 40s and didn’t become free of it until my mid-50s.

I tried many different religions, every one of which eventually showed itself to be, well, silly at best and horrific at worst. (Although I did once consider becoming a Quaker until I found out the initiation requires a year in the oatmeal mines. 😉 ) Once I realized that they all fail in the end, existence suddenly made a lot more sense (and became much more bearable). I’m afraid the Bible is no exception, though if I had no choice but to pick a religion it would probably be Christianity. Maybe Zen, though that’s not really a religion but a way of thinking and an outlook on life. (Though I don’t practice it, I’ve become very zen about things.)

I think you’re wrong about the left. They’re not hiding a secret conservatism, they’re exactly what they seem to be. They’re not smart enough to fake anything – if they spout the shit they do it must be, for the rank and file anyway, because they’re stupid enough to believe it.

I’ll either die of natural causes, a major disease, or because my last words were, “You’re gonna have to kill me then.”

If Biden goes after the citizen’s guns, I’m afraid we are going to find out if he runs out of collectors before we run out of ammunition.

You have to wonder how many of those charged with “going after the guns” will do so.

May we never find out.

I also took many a church for a test-drive. I asked too many questions & was kicked out or felt like I was not welcome anymore. I settled on doing my own thing and being a decent human.
A good friend of mine decided he would adopt the “Tao of Pooh” after his disenchantment with religions.
I do believe these last 4 years woke up a number of people. Check out #WalkAway on YT. I also think some have woken up since the election and subsequent “clown car rodeo”. Not all by any stretch.
The left crazies remind me of how most women treat each other. Most women are catty, plotting, act nice and then stab you in the back, get your fired, or steal your man.
I don’t think there’s much hope for these radicals, sadly. They seem to have a mental health issue and/or have a negative attachment of some sort.
My fate is yet TBD, but I will not kneel of my own free will.
“This is the way.”

I was just talking with someone today who used to be a solid left-winger. COVID & the endless Trump-bashing made her look into what she was supporting and changed her mind. Maybe there are more of those than I think.

We can hope.
Still, whatever behavior they show initially I’m sticking with. First impressions and all . . .

That is the truth that many slavers use and it is borne out whenever traitors and quislings sell out their fellow captives or future fellow slaves: there are just some people that want someone else to shoulder the responsibility of making decisions and tell them what to do. They want to be children and have someone else provide for them. The flip side is the people that want to tell others what to do, but not in the parents caring for children out of love aspect but the mean owners of pets looking down on the subhuman and stupid things they are saddled with but cannot be rid.

It is a terribly scary thing to grow up and take responsibility for yourself. I think that came out, in the book version at least, of Peter Pan, among other stories.

You guys were adorable way back when and you still are and always will be. Thanks for the uplifting. Positive is the way to go. No defeatism. I snipped your photo and saved it for posterity. This Bill Whittle/SG/SO soldier is ready to go to battle.

I am normally optimistic but this year has been miserable not because of politics but because it revealed how much fear has turned out to be what is really motivating peoples choices and actions. Next year we have an opportunity to calm people and help alleviate fear and if you guys can do that in any small measure this country will survive and prosper.

You are clearly optimistic.

Fear may be partially a motivator, but only because stupidity is the primary one.
