He glossed right over the concern over not enough testing. I believe that there has not been enough long term testing. If you are okay with these shots, that is fine with me, but don’t try to use your fear to take away my freedom. If you think I am nuts, that’s fine. Look up the all cause death rates for 2020 vs. 2019. The people in the media and government are part of the fear porn. The difference in deaths did not come close to justifying the damage done to our economy.
Are you addressing me or the ambiguous “you”?
I am only addressing people that want to take away my freedom because I do not want to get the shot.
You’re right this has been blown out of proportion. It’s a lot more like a nasty strain of H1N1 than it is a bona fide pandemic like the Spanish Flu. You’re wrong about this Dr. Ted guy glossing over anything.
He didn’t “gloss right over” concerns about the duration of testing, which is what you actually must mean because there’s been a lot of testing. In this matter what you “believe” is not relevant if you have studied the facts, which you have not or you’d not be able to say such a thing.
This Dr. Ted guy addressed the duration of testing and availability of the vaccine in the most succinct manner possible, by actual threat assessment. Which is the greater threat, vaccine or disease? If you listened to the REST of what he said you would have heard the facts that blow away almost all the silly, ignorant, uninformed rumors arguing against vaccination.
The platform being used to create the C19-SARS/2 vaccine lends itself to very rapid successful development. There are right now about 23 vaccines in testing but those which use the more traditional methods of attenuating viruses take a lot longer to develop and test just to get to the same place we are right now with the three approved vaccines. It’s not that the longer time it takes to develop attenuated virus vaccines makes those vaccines magically safer. It’s that the older methods are much, much slower just to get the same result.
The tools to get to this same place have improved a hell of a lot since you were a kid, you just didn’t keep up on that kind of thing until COVID cropped up. In fact, the mumps vaccine took only four years, from collecting viral samples to licensing the drug in 1967 to public distribution that same year — and there was no big hurry with that one. Had that particular vaccine been a matter of dire urgency and had all the resources been brought to bear on that which were used to develop these three COVID vaccines, it could easily have been done in 25% of the time it took to get that mumps vaccine. Same result here. This is not all that remarkable except that the tires were kicked and the fires lit in record time.
What would have been stupid in light of the greater or lesser (depending on who you ask) public emergency would have been to use outdated, slower methods when newer and faster means were available and all the same testing done on the new vaccines as was done on previous ones.
Of course there are people who wonder why we’re not all riding horses and scooping up road apples rather than driving cars too … If you want to be one of them, that’s your business and I support you in that choice.
What I do not support is scuttlebutt, rumor, innuendo and outright lies meant to convince people not to get a simple, safe within all previous parameters, free health buttress available to everyone.
I don’t know about you (nor particularly care) but a lot of people ask me for my views who value and act on what I tell them. Because I’ve been all over the world, done and seen a lot it’s very common for someone to call me up and say “Dad (or Grampa, or whatever applies), what do you think about ____________ …” Fill in the blank however you like. When they ask me about this vaccine I tell them to get it if they’re in a vulnerable group and have not otherwise had adverse reactions to vaccinations — and that it won’t hurt them whether they’re in a vulnerable group or not. That’s the truth, I’ve done a hell of a lot of research on this to get to a point where I’m confident in giving that advice to people who are very likely to take it, whichever way it leaned.
I love those people and I owe them that due diligence because I don’t want it on my conscience if one of them listens to some stupidity they came across on the internet, asked me and got more stupidity and refused to get vaccinated. I’m not going to kill my people with bad advice, I wish I could say the same for everyone else but this confirmation bias/conspiracy bullshit has gotten completely out of hand.
The dude in this video gets it right to a degree that if all you can do is nit-pick about how much time he spent on your favorite confirmation bias the problem is you, not him.
I listened to the entire video. The ONLY concern that I stated is the lack of long term testing. You call it nit picking and provide a long response which appears to lump me in with conspiracy theories. I don’t care what you do or what you recommend to other people. I have done my own research. Taking the shot or not is my choice. I encourage people to do their own research. I don’t want my freedoms taken away because of the fear of other people.
You are the problem if you are one of the people that wants to take away my freedom.
I never said a thing about taking away your freedom. I support your choice completely, as long as it was made from an informed position dealing with the facts in this matter.
There isn’t any compulsion legal or otherwise among the general population forcing people to get vaccinated. I really don’t see how such a thing could be enforced. In that regard, you are tilting at windmills. That could change but I really doubt it’s going to. If it does, you have a case for exercising your freedom to choose. If not, it’s a moot point.
The “long response” was simply to explain why a long stretch of time between inception and distribution of a vaccine is no longer, with this type of vaccine, a magical formula to increase “safety”. The stretch of time can and should be compressed in light of newer developments in medical technology.
great video
