Also from Bastogne, but from Band of Brothers. As Easy Company heads into the Ardennes, the outgoing troops tell them not to go in you’ll be surrounded.
Capt. Winters replies: “We’re paratroopers. We’re supposed to be surrounded”
I don’t believe Zo is correct about the weak hand. Being struck on the right cheek is being slapped with the back of the right hand (the strong hand) in a backhanded fashion. In middle eastern cultures, the back of the hand is like being shown the sole of the foot.
This is an insult more than an assault.
I have heard this with both interpretations, but I think the end result is the same. The blow is intended to show disrespect, not injure. Therefore, don’t overreact, but turn away. It is not worth your anger.
I think culturally, and of the time, your interpretation is likely correct. Though, today in America, Zo’s would probably ring with more people.
Man, would I love to sit down with Zoe and talk, the Bible, God and Jesus . I think we both would have a blast!
How I needed to hear this today. Thanks guys.
If anyone – from the earnest, 98 pound Karen behind you in the check-out line to the most powerful Inquisitors of the Democrat-Media Cabal – accused you of being guilty of defying the laws of gravity, would you cower or would you laugh?
Fact is, everything they are accusing us of – from killing grandma, to hating our neighbors, to destroying our nation – is equally baseless and ridiculous.
So, enough of our defensiveness – WE’RE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG.
They want to divide us? To heck with that. Smile, make eye-contact, and say hello to everyone you encounter. They want hate? Ask every cashier how their workday is going and try to make them laugh before you leave. They want us angry? Be vigorously courteous in traffic and by opening the door for someone at every public place you enter.
We’re going to face their persecution regardless, so why not defy them with cheerfulness and class? E Pluribus Unum ain’t just an empty slogan on our money you know, it’s a guiding light.
“We see dimly in the Present what is small and what is great,
Slow of faith how weak an arm may turn the iron helm of fate…”
Cheers!
Another great discussion. I love this series. I .like when Zo brings up Biblical references
Amen.
I never thought of my Lord and Savior having onions, but I really like the idea!! LOL!!
“Since mankind’s dawn, a handful of oppressors have accepted the responsibility over our lives that we should have accepted for ourselves. By doing so, they took our power. By doing nothing, we gave it away. We’ve seen where their way leads, through camps and wars, towards the slaughterhouse.”
― Alan Moore, V for Vendetta
We are being hearded into a pen of slavery…and the gate is closing.
Demoralizing …
Anecdotally-defined by a story once told to me by a 4-th degree black belt karate instructor in which he described participating in a Japanese Open tournament. In one bout he described driving a spinning back kick to the midsection of his Japanese opponent, giving all of his available power to the kick. After his kick, he looked at the face of his opponent, and all he saw was a small grin. At that moment he said he knew he was in trouble, and he predictably lost the match.
We must maintain the same confident grin when we are confronting all opposition.
Richard Pryor had a bit about Jim Brown:
A friend of his, big guy, was angry with Jim and wanted to fight him. 6 or 8 dudes were holding the guy back and Jim said something that made his blood go cold.
“Gentlemen, I think if you let him go he could express himself better”
He “allowed” himself to be walked out of the room. I always thought the song Don’t mess around with Jim, was about Jim Brown, until I saw the lyrics and realized Slim won. Nobody beat Jim Brown.
Had a similar situation happen to me back in the day. Two goombahs “holding” a third one back. “Get out of here kid, I don’t think we can hold him much longer,” the bigger of the two said. “I never asked you to hold him back, he did,” was my reply. He, too, “allowed” himself to be walked out of the breakroom. And in the anger of my youth, I put my fist through the wire reinforced window in the boiler room door… and did more damage to myself than the three of them could have ever done.
When looking for words to describe the situation, satanic was the word.
This type of strength works with sane, rational people. I don’t know how many of those are actually on the other side of these moral arguments. The mainstream media surely will “witness” whatever feeds their hungry lions.
God says having done all stand, it doesn’t mean stop, it means stand up for your God given rights/authority. It means not losing your own right standing, just to win a conflict by acting just like the other side. Doing the Godly right thing, no matter what the worldly outcome may appear to show. This is not about backing down, but instead keeping focus on how God says to fight the true enemies we face.
Powers and principalities of the enemy, are not the people standing in front of us, these people are only ignorant tools. In other words they are just pathetically “doing their jobs”. It’s the powers and positions of powers ordering these tools to perform their jobs that must be addressed.
Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
John 16:33 “I have told you these thing so you may have peace. I’m this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.”
That one line might sum things up perfectly. I said something similar to Little Bob when we were at Legoland, and on a slow day were the only ones on the Ninjago ride (meanaing no support from players in the empty cars): “I have excellent news. We’re completely surrounded, which means we get our choice of which enemy to destroy first.”
What a great message. I am so happy to have been introduced to AlfonZo Rachel through my subscription to Bill Whittle.
