YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki accepts a Free Expression Award at an event YouTube sponsored. The Freedom Forum praised her for algorithmically-removing content — some nine million videos per year — that might hurt someone’s feelings. Bill Whittle observes that in a trust-based society, with the rule of law, you can plan for the future in a way that folks in an honor-shame based society can’t fathom — because everyone is lying to everyone else within and among the tribes.
Moving Back to America with Bill Whittle is a production of our Members, who pay as little as $9.95 per month to make you sure could see this for free. Become part of the producers, and enjoy backstage content, as well as the Members-only forums, blog and comments. Join us now.

On the issue of tribalism, one aspect not often realized is the role of the medieval Church in reducing the influence of tribes in Europe, based on its rules for restricting consanguineous marriage [aka cousin marriage]. See here for details: http://hbdchick.wordpress.com/2011/04/04/whatever-happened-to-european-tribes/ As the wealth of inheritance was diluted away from the family, clan, tribe, and in fact towards the Church in many cases, those tribes lost power and influence, perhaps almost forcing a new set of trust links to develop (partially involving the Church and the culture and canon law developing around it). By the 1200’s to 1400’s a nearly modern trust structure was in place in Europe.
Coming late to comment, but had a thought about countering some of this loss in our web of trust:
Can we in fact “shame” some large fraction of the (probably pretty liberal) federal civilian workforce with comments along the lines of “we are losing our trust in the FBI, CIA, FDA, and CDC … are you comfortable with us also losing trust in your agency and your performance and commitment to this country? Are you going to contribute to this “woke” and leftist hyper liberal madness … or you willing to help fight against it?”
Who knows. Majestic oaks from little acorns grow.
This is so true! In Romania, nobody believed the official line on anything. Not even the people in charge of it… I doubt that even Nicolae and Elena did.
Bill has amazing insight into this. Yes, it leads to a sort of tribalism, in that you know only a few people, family, friends, that you can trust and be open with, but it also leads to widespread corruption, black market, and a general cynicism that is no good for a nation. Because of that, notions like patriotism, pride in heritage and culture are gone. Nobody believes in anything anymore, just develops survival mechanisms. Of course, there are exceptions.
A very sad state of affairs.
There was a conservative psychiatrist who had a blog called Dr. Sanity several years ago. She referred to the distinction as guilt-based societies vs. shame-based societies.
In a guilt-based society, you pay a social price for being shown to be guilty of something bad, and if you don’t consider yourself guilty, you’re expected to fight against the accusation.
In a shame-based society, you pay a social price for being perceived to have done something bad, and if you did something bad and got away with it, that carries a certain social charm with it.
Conservatives are guilt-based. Leftists are shame-based. This is why Hillary is still a beloved elder statesman. Everybody knows she violated the Espionage Act… but the fact that she got away with it makes her that much better, not worse.
And yeah, I think a lot of the destruction of the web of trust is deliberate and with full knowledge. The goal is to force conservatives to accept a shame-based society. Because if you look at the description above, you quickly realize that all totalitarian systems are shame-based, they have to be.
I still miss Dr. Sanity.
So do I.
So if I was running marketing at Rumble my instant pitch would be this;
Are you one of the 9.000.000 that YT has proudly canceled? Come on over to Rumble where Freedom of Speech is still valued. We are truly a platform, not a publisher.
If I was Ted Cruz, I would call this woman before my Senate committee and ask her to explain the details of the “machine process” for deleting each of these 9,000,000 videos and have her explain why this does not make them a publisher.
Is it a shame that our web of trust is deteriorating? Or is it a boon that the web of deception is falling from our eyes?
Bill laments, for example, that we can no longer trust the “Untouchable” FBI. Except that the F.B.I. only got that nickname because J. Edgar Hoover was brilliant at manipulating how g-men would be portrayed in the news and entertainment media while in real life they were collecting blackmail information on our public servants, politically active citizens and celebrities for Hoover’s vast blackmail files.
Bill laments that we now have the new internet media deliberately lying to us and wonders how that will affect ability to trust people we don’t know personally. You know, people like Walter “The Most Trusted Man in America” Cronkite whose lies (combined with our general naivete) helped the Communists defeat American Servicemen and install a brutal tyranny in Southeast Asia.
Yes, there used to be a web of trust. But was it ever justified? Or did it just make us easier marks, and unable to realize why we were losing freedoms, blood, and immense amounts of treasure. Maybe it is a shame that we are losing the web of trust in the same way it is a shame that we must grow up and no longer believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. It is cute… but we are not meant to be children forever.
Was our society ever worthy of such blind trust? Even during the days of the founders? Read this letter from Paul Revere and think as you think about his Web of Trust: http://www.masshist.org/database/viewer.php?item_id=99&img_step=1&mode=dual#page1
From the Comments on the YouTube “Award” video:
“We know that they are lying, they know that they are lying, they even know that we know they are lying, we also know that they know we know they are lying too, they of course know that we certainly know they know we know they are lying too as well, but they are still lying.”
– Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Perfect. I lived in that.
This would be a better meme that Obama giving himself the Medal of Freedom award meme that has been floating around for a few years. Talk about patting yourself on the back with a total BS award! Lol!
Pre Obama (https://dilbert.com/strip/2005-07-09):
My circle of trust has become infinitesimally small: I selectively curate the people with whom I associate and the information to which I’m exposed. Some could say that I am living in a bubble of my own design, and if I were on the Left that would be true. But the thing is, we on Right have exposure to what is going on within the ranks of the Left that isn’t modified or twisted to present a false story or fake news. I still trust most of the resources to which I turn for information. I’ve weeded out a few that have shown me they can’t be trusted – Fox News is one of them. Below is a letter from the GAB founder Andrew Torba with lots of links to stories the Left won’t let their minions know about.
“Everything about the Chauvin trial and the media coverage of it showcases the subversion and transformation of our justice system into one of a third-world banana republic.
We can’t have a justice system that is ruled by threats of violence, doxxing, and harassment from the domestic terrorists in the mainstream media, on the streets, and in the Democratic party.
That’s not how civilized societies function, it’s how third-world countries function. If you import the third-world, don’t be surprised when your country becomes the third-world.
If you are caught in the censored echo chambers of Big Tech platforms, chances are you missed most of the stories I’ve gathered below. If you are trapped inside the Big Media echo chambers, you’ve been spoon-fed what the oligarchs want you to see and hear about the trial.
That’s why I’ve taken the time to curate a collection of stories for you so you can save them and never forget how this all played out.

Compare what is happening in our streets right now and what is being said by our “leaders” to what happened with peaceful protestors at the Capitol on January 6th. Compare the media coverage and the reaction to it. Compare how the Officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt was treated by both the media and our “justice system.”
We still don’t even know his name!
Half of the country lives in reality and the other half lives in a bubble world of fear and loathing handcrafted by the oligarch elites. One side plays by one set of rules, the other plays by no rules at all. This is a serious problem and it’s not getting better anytime soon. Our nation needs prayer and we as individuals must cling to the hope, peace, and Biblical justice of the Holy Spirit.
“Conservative” courts and judges mean nothing if our justice system is ruled by a mob of domestic terrorists. The rule of law means nothing if there are one set of rules for half of the country and a different set of rules for the other. Nothing about what we are seeing unfold right now is “justice” in any sense of the word and it certainly is not “normal.”
It’s anarcho-tyranny.
How long are we going to put up with it?

Deep down leftists know what they are doing is wrong, so what do the leftists do? They give each other “awards” to bury their guilt and to justify their bad behavior.
I wish they felt guilt and needed justification. even the kind they bestow upon themselves. But this is simply another example of their skillful use of manipulation – sure, they won’t sway anyone who isn’t already in their camp; they’re just providing more ammunition for their Zombies to use in arguments with the opposition: See, they’ll say, You Tube can’t be censoring – they got an award for being protectors of free speech. And there will be no convincing them otherwise.
The sad part is that no matter what gets done to rebuild that trust, it won’t be coming any time soon
I heard a phrase the other day that I was told was the original version of the phrase “Blood is thicker than water” I am not sure how accurate that characterization was but regardless the phrase rings true especially in regards to Bill’s video. “The Blood of the Covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” Our web of trust cannot be built on shaky grounds, it needs to be built on what our former country was built on, the natural law and the God that created it.
Amen.
Men created it.
