Software that manipulates video, to alter what happens and who does it, will change social media, the news, our system of justice — everything. As we’re getting pulled into The Matrix, how will you exercise reason and judgment in a world that’s undetectably unreal?

Don’t fight the fight you find. Fight the fight that finds you.
Anyone who has ever spent any time at a video or film shoot understands how thoroughly artificial and manipulative it is, yet we have placed our faith in video as a standard of truth for decades. Those watching the Kennedy/Nixon debate perceived Kennedy the winner, while those listening came away with the opposite impression. I stopped watching television news back in the 70s when I realized it tells you enough to make you believe you know something, but not enough that you actually do. The video footage convinces us that Derek Chauvin is crushing Saint George Floyd’s windpipe, yet the autopsy revealed no damage. With the advent of undetectable software, the degree of manipulation will only get worse – so it’s all the more important to deeply plumb the timeless truths, then sharpen our discernment and critical thinking skills.
Is this the program being used to show Adam Shiff wanting to open an investigation into Biden’s handling of the evacuation of Afghanistan? I’ve come to not trust ANYTHING that flows from this man’s mouth! If he did something RIGHT, I would question his motives!
With regard to Deep Fake, I have some software for Unity which costs less than a hundred bucks and it will generate a fully configurable (expressions, blend shapes, lips) 3D head of anybody from just a single face-forward photo. The result looks very much like the original person. You can stick the head on a fully rigged body and animate the character to do or say anything you want. It’s not perfect, but you can put the head in Blender and tweak it until the person’s own mother couldn’t tell the difference.
The point is, you don’t have to access and match thousands of images of the person that you want to imitate. Once you have that head, you can do anything with it.
You may have seen my satirical take on the social media/gender dysmorphia business elsewhere on here, but for those that didn’t, here it is.
Nicely done. I especially liked the reason for dismissal.
Sadly, reality is dumber than fiction
