I’m not trying to nit pick here, it’s important that people understand that the United States was not the only country ever to use slavery for labor purposes. “Unencumbered by the legacy of slavery …” Black people from Jamaica are descendents of slaves too. Just not American slaves. There is no African genetic component to pre-Columbian native Jamaicans. (Loosely grouped with the “Taino” people who migrated from S. America.) Any African genes there were brought in as slaves, mostly to support the sugar cane/rum industry.
To my knowledge, there was no where in the New World that rum was produced commercially that did not have slavery as a component somewhere in its history. If anyone has any contrary information I’d be glad to see it and stand corrected if so.
To me the most salient point is clear. This lady is a Marine. To me that’s more important than her color by orders of magnitude. She’s got her head on straight and her eye on the betterment of Virginians. Not virtue signalling empty destructive social engineering.

Very well said. Slavery is such a broad subject, and I have a lot to learn about it. Having said that, their cries of white privilege and all of this other nonsense have led myself and millions of Americans to investigate in our own way the facts surrounding slavery and all the other pieces of history for which they’ve taught one side for decades and used to create American guilt.
Then they leveraged such guilt for ever more benefits.
Then Obama came along with his identity poltics and a generous America figured out the scam.
Now we’re here, and they’re rightly terrified of a free America using free speech platforms to put their one-sided retelling of history for power in context.
Time to show the door to the lying communist trash who have tried to use and abuse the trust and generosity of a whole new generation. Many of their followers have been well-meaning though misinformed individuals, and they were led astray by hardcore leftist “community organizers” supported by a core group of virtue-signalers all too willing to sacrifice our freedoms as long as their own egos are satisfied often, in my opinion, to cover for their own lack of accomplishment.

I have to confess, I do enjoy a good fight and am equally enthusiastic about fighting for the good.
Sometimes I step on some toes when I do that, I’m trying hard to avoid that in here unless I can see a good and deserving target.
In which case subtleties and sensitivities be damned and I just let fly.
I get called a lot of names, even in here, for doing that. It happened today again and often enough that it isn’t really remarkable. I wish there was an easy, non-repetitive, effective way to get across to such people that I don’t give a tinker’s damn what they think of me.
This isn’t about me. It’s about my country, in which I have as much invested stake as any and more than most. I’ve neither time nor interest is niceties and looking out for toes in the path.

She doesn’t need to make a specific outreach to whites. She needs to serve the Virginians that elected her, who all happen to also be Americans. It’s fine with me if this lady never makes any distinction at all between any race of any sort. I’m a strong proponent of color blindness when it comes to skin pigmentation.
The only reason I can see for her mentioning her own color in the above video is that the evil doers make such a big deal out of skin color. Are you one of those people too?
Because if you are, it’s not OK to fight your enemy by becoming the same as your enemy. I’m very curious as to why you seem to think Winsome Sears needs to make some sort of “outreach” to white people.
That said, it’s ironic and telling that not only did Virginians elect a pair of Republicans to run the state, the Republican ticket was the very “racial diversity” that the Left claims to be so vital.
I voted in the election yesterday and I didn’t even know that Winsome Sears was a black woman until I saw this post on Bill Whittle this morning. There was so much coverage of Glen Youngkin that it never came to my attention the candidate for Lt. Governor was a black lady. In Virginia the Governor and Lt. Governor are voted for separately, not as a package. I voted for her and it wouldn’t have made the slightest difference to me what color she was.

The Conservative cause and ideology is the only and last bastion standing between the America we know and love and it’s fall into a socialistic communist pit baited with Utopian lies.
The LAST THING we need is for the Left to find among us the racism they accuse us of constantly. Even a whiff of such a thing is dangerous to saving America from those who would destroy her.
So far, the only way the Left has been able to even attempt pinning that kind of thing on us has been by means of hoaxes. Which have been handily and easily exposed.
It would be the wet dream of our enemies to give them the real thing by even hinting that actual racial composition of anyone white; black or polka-dotted, is in any way important to us. They’ve already loaded those dice and are praying we’ll give ’em a toss out onto the board where they can use that against us.
Avoiding this isn’t hard if you have your head on straight. You should already be racially color-blind. That’s the only and best solution to any vestiges of racial issues that may be hanging onto the fringes in America.
No favoritism, either direction, based on color. It’s dangerous to our side to make any issue of color other than as in this case with this election …

The conflict here is that we say color doesn’t matter and racial colorblindness is the best policy for everyone. The other side says that race is what matters most of all. Both cannot be right, both cannot prevail. One or the other has to be destroyed as a political ideology. It’s our job to do that and to police our own ranks to avoid supplying our enemies with ammunition they can use against us.
Give the Left a great big spoon and make them eat their own racism.

She didn’t reach out to any one skin color. She indicated that she’s going to serve all of the people of Virginia. She also indicated that, while still a Jamaican, she chose to serve in the military as she loved this country and what it provided to her. What more can you ask? As many are saying, the race card is officially dead.
Put McCauliffe in a cage match with her and I think he runs away whimpering to hide under a chair.
