Mike Rowe, John Rich Join Oak Ridge Boys In Viral ‘Santa’s Gotta Dirty Job’

Cute song.

How exactly do Christian parents who should obey the Ninth Commandment, deal with Santa Claus?

The song is fun, but I don’t follow your “logic” (?) concerning the following #9:

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Care to explain what appears to me to be a non sequitur?

IF a person claims to be a Christian, then following His Word, the Bible, should be high on their priorities in life. Not every Christian understands the Ten Commandments. When you boil them down to the vernacular though, it should be easy to comprehend. The NINTH Commandment boiled down to the basic is——-DON’T LIE. Sounds so simple. But, is it?
Maybe this little comic will accentuate the LIE portion.

“Do not bear false witness against your neighbor” is more specific than just your average lie. I understand it to refer to promoting untruth with the intent of doing harm to one’s neighbor — that’s what one might do sitting on a witness stand talking to a judge.

It would seem that if one takes your interpretation of the ninth commandment to such an extreme, then one can never honestly read or share any sort of fiction whatsoever. Santa Clause is fiction. Since all fiction is not factual, ergo a lie by your definition, none of it is fair game.

Surprise parties would be off the table in this strict context because the target of said party would be lied to prior to the surprise.

This sounds like a very sad existence to me.

The typical attribution to a fictitious character named Santa Claus as the source of anonymous gifts, seems to me to be nothing but lighthearted fun. Such harmless fun falls nowhere near the meaning of the ninth commandment’s prohibition from false witness against one’s neighbor.

My original question had to do with how Christian Parents dealt with Santa Claus.
IF Christians do not prize truth as highly as the Lord does, then breaking the NINTH Commandment will be easy.
Who told you about Santa?
