The Zero COVID Fantasy World: Locked Down Chinese Can’t Buy Groceries

So locked down they can’t buy groceries without a negative coronavirus test, and then only weekly, China provides a cautionary tale to government officials who imagine there’s no COVID.

“I’m starving!” says a Chinese citizen trapped at home as the government seeks to reach a Zero COVID fantasy world. So locked down they can’t buy groceries without a negative coronavirus test, and then only weekly, China provides a cautionary tale to government officials who imagine there’s no COVID.

These dipwads can’t stop a virus. What the hell makes their worshipers think they can stop global cooling, er, global warming, oops, climate change?

The dichotomy between Left and Right becomes highlighted in stark relief over this COVID situation.

It’s not that either side has a monopoly on medical acumen. It’s that both sides approach the issue from different perspectives.

The Right looks at things the way they are and says “What can we realistically do about that?”

The Left looks at things they way they want them to be and says “What can we do to impose ‘our reality’ on everyone?”

It’s a matter of hard-eyed realism on the Right and magical thinking on the Left.

It has always been thus. Marxism in any form; social, political or economic — Is magical thinking at its very worst. Marxism promises a utopia, which is a wholly unrealistic goal.

Before Marxism came along we can learn from the French Revolution where the promise of utopia was an excuse for wholesale slaughter of as many political opponents as could be laid hands upon. Like todays’ American Social Marxists, the Leftist French Jacobins had a policy of “our way or the highway”. The more power they gained, the more strident and violent they were about that position. And of course that highway led to a guillotine.

That’s where we’ll end up if we allow Social Marxism in America to get a lock on power. There really isn’t any sound argument otherwise.

There are many more historical examples I can give but you should be getting the idea by now.

The Evil Thing here isn’t Marxism though of itself Marxism is plenty evil. Marxism is the beard on the face of the prophet. Marxism is the excuse to grab power with the promise of a utopia and the reality of suffering and slaughter hiding under the beard.

This is less a function of ideology than it is a matter of human nature. The ideology is the carrot that brings out the stick inherent in humanity.

Our Founding Fathers, being very pragmatic and educated men, knew this flaw in humanity very well. Being Men of Faith guided by higher principles than their own inherent base human natures, they attempted to counter this problem. They were by no means certain it would work. Granting power to the population and drastically restricting the power of leadership was an entirely new concept in the history of human kind.

You’ve all heard or read this before …

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” – John Adams

This is the reason why John Adams made that statement.

When the Founders ratified the U.S. Constitution they were demonstrating their religious faith. They could easily have gone the route that France took by doing the things that come naturally to humanity.

That the Founders did that, that they decided on this course of experimentation with human society, was a gamble. A gamble they felt worth the risk as they looked around at the moral and religious society they lived in. But they were no fools in doing this, they were aware of the risk. Much of their ratified U.S. Constitution reflects an attempt to mitigate that risk.

As it turned out, the risk was well worth taking. American became something heretofore never seen in human history. Not only was individual liberty the major result but an amazing and unexpected prosperity followed that individual liberty.

Because for the first time in history it wasn’t a matter of the government telling you how and why you should prosper or not. It was entirely up to you.

The American Experiment has been fully validated. We know what works and what does not thanks to America.

Anything that leads in any other direction is not only magical thinking, it’s dangerous to us all. Left and Right alike. The Jacobins used a guillotine on many other Jacobins. Many Communists were sent to gulags or purged in bloody murder in the name of Communism.

This is clear an undeniable in light of the difference between Communist China and Ron Desantis’ Florida. In China people are being “locked down” to the point of starvation. In Florida even Leftist politicians like AOC vacation without any apparent concern for their draconian doctrines.

In China the magical thinking of a government that believes it can control a virus is disastrous for the people who live there. In Florida the hard-eyed realism of a Conservative Governor has created not utopia but orders of magnitude closer to that goal than the Chinese will ever come if they allow their leadership to keep practicing black magic.

The choice seems very clear to me.

Well put but as I said, their politics are a means to an end for evil people. They’re using our “cargo” to buy votes, their political ecosystem is unsustainable and rapidly corrodes itself, the government they’re pushing for is unstable and the choice is between their house of cards and what we can all clearly see works and improves on the human condition while it does so.

The reason people are used to going shopping daily, is because they have no refrigerators to store meat and other perishables. I know someone who grew up in China, and lots of parts are like that. You buy a chicken, take it home, kill and process it, etc. For example, she and her husband were visiting us and they called her father while there. Her father asked if we were getting ready to eat, because he heard our dogs barking in the background! So weekly shopping really harms the peoples’ diets. Those who remain without refrigerators can choose between malnutrition and food-borne illnesses.
Here’s a link confirming that the affected area in fact has at least some people still without refrigerators:

I often view this government-run response to Covid-19 as a practice run for a real killer plague, something akin to Ebola. As the morbidity and mortality from this attenuating virus keeps dropping, our politician’s idiocy knows no bounds. Imagine if this lock down stuff wasn’t a politicized tool and we really needed the government’s assistance!

When the ‘Rona thing first burst on the world scene my attitude was “even if this isn’t a genuine killer plague, it’s a good practice run for the real thing”.

I was trying to think positively. As it turns out, I was right but negatively. Now we KNOW that a real plague will be politicized and exploited by the Left to the most remote degree possible. We know that therapeutic measures will be suppressed. We know that any vaccine or prophylactic measures will be demonized by the Left if the Republicans are in power. We know that if the Left manages to use that to gain power they will not only flip their position but try to force us all to their will. We know the Left will make promises which there’s no realistic way to keep just to gain power. We’ve learned a lot in the ‘Rona world so far.

Even without that, assuming better minds are in charge then than today …

In a way we’ve all been vaccinated against BS but that might manifest as people ignoring the media and press in a real killer plague.

Fool me once, the boy who cried wolf, and all that kind of thing.

But seriously, it has been known for some time that people in Antarctica come down with the common cold despite all the precautions and despite no contact with the outside world. If I were to guess, it probably is because there can be a long time between an exposer and the manifestation of symptoms. Most of us have had the experience being under stress and then suddenly getting a cold out of nowhere. That virus was probably floating around at some low level and only broke out because your immune system got a little weaker. Same with Chairman Xi’s Revenge™?

Didn’t the Apollo 13 astronauts get sick even though the protocols then included two full weeks of quarantine before liftoff?

yes, at least one of them, I don’t recall which one, on landing, his boots were filled with fluids

In Wisconsin they were testing the deer (for some reason unknown to me, why a bat virus would cross to humans and then to an unrelated animal should be so low in chances it pretty much proves the lab theory) and the deer were testing positive. They were telling the hunters to wear masks while out hunting, implying they would get sick from the deer they killed.
Wearing masks while in hunting camp shacks and nearby bars makes sense, if you think that other hunters might be sick and carriers, transmitting the virus to you and you would then bring it home to your family and neighbors, but the deer? Come on.
So yeah, I thought “they got it from the penguins” too.

With all of the surge in Wuhan Flu numbers, I’d be interested to see what the numbers for reported cases of colds and the common garden variety flu are looking like.

I wonder if they also have to be vaccinated to go to the Antarctic station?

Joe admitted a few weeks ago there is no federal solution to COVID.

Which is hilarious, because that admission aligns with the Trump Admin approach which they campaigned against.

The other interesting set of data coming out is the number of people who are going to the hospital for some type of procedure, non-Covid related hospitalization, getting tested as part of incoming triage and testing positive.
Here locally there was a woman giving birth who was asymptomatic of anything and tested positive for both Covid and the seasonal flu. Again, not what she went in for but now in the stats as a Covid hospitalization.
It is now everywhere. I am just an engineer, not a data scientist, but I have to think at this point we are approaching unity that everyone has been exposed to one form of Covid or another.
This is not to say that, like the flu, if you are at risk due to other health conditions, if you get sick you should seek medical treatment. We just lost a very good man, former neighbor, who had some underlying issues but didn’t think they were that bad. For 65 he was in OK shape. But he may have had some unknown heart ailment as he got pretty sick and it taxed his system beyond what he could take. Less than 10 days from onset of symptoms to gone.
So if you are in the at risk demographics, take it seriously. If not, enjoy life. 2.8 million Americans will die this year, most from something other than a virus. Live / Laugh / Love
