DeAnna Anderson, Member at BillWhittle.com, is a self-described “ordinary citizen.” But this working Mom has accomplished extraordinary results. She did it one small step at a time — from her own backyard of Helena, Montana.
In the video you’re about to watch, DeAnna shares…
- Why she quit Facebook and what she did instead.
- The one small step that lead to winning.
- The shock of her first Republican Party meeting.
- How to conquer overwhelm and discouragement.

My “ahah!” moment with learning about engaging was when I was in “Landmark Education”. I was by this time helping 5-6 new enrollees in a 3 1/2 month long course where you pick something that makes you excited and try to make that “dream project” come true. (As you may have guessed, I had been in this course and loved it and had been an instructor before. So having my “ahah!” moment this far in to the process is a bit embarrassing.) I had already learned that lots of people have great ideas and that the world is starving to hear about them. Less people are ready to actually help you facilitate your idea, but among those that you recruit to your cause are those individuals who become even more enthusiastic than you. But we all get stopped. “Landmark” helps you find out why you get stopped and what you can do to get around it, my level being the first step to reaching out.
My “ahah!” was that we all have more time than we think, all of us have something to give, and the world is better off when our dreams come true, no matter how intelligent or unintelligent that we think we are. Humans do better when they are pursuing their dreams and it is way easier to do this if you can recruit others with your enthusiasm. And it’s all about what you do when you are stopped that matters. Other than having a dream, it’s the only thing that matters. And having resources to help you when you get stopped is paramount. Those resources are other people, even strangers. The world needs dreams and people are dying to be recruited into yours.
I would really like to see more of these types of videos.
Working on it. Thanks, John.
I really enjoyed that. One small step can make a big difference. I believe that conservatives have had too much of a “leave us alone” attitude and therefore ceded political activism to the liberals. It is way past time for us to get involved at the school board and county levels and not just the state and national levels. Thank you, DeAnna, for showing us how it’s done. Thank you, Scott, for the wonderful interview. I would love to see more of these. As for Facebook, I recently watched Betty White’s monologue when she hosted Saturday Night Live. I agree with her. “It’s a giant waste of time.”
I’ve recently made a rule .. and you need a bit of self-awareness to cactch it — but if you catch yourself just scrolling … stop. Put the device down. Pick up a guitar, a carving knife, fix something around the house, go read something. If you’re going to keep your device in hand, go read something that will teach you something or expand your mind, your understanding of … just about anything.
“Just scrolling” is what the algorithms are designed to get you to do. If you find yourself doing that, you are being manipulated. Recognize that. And stop.
As a confirmed introvert, I’ve often wondered how I could possibly add value to political conservatism in my community. This video made me realize that I can work in the background and contribute without being “out there.” I actually have a ton of PR and media relations experience in the nonprofit arena, which could easily translate into the political realm. I think I’ll attend out next county school board meeting, and I can provide balance to the reporters who regularly attend. Just small step, right?
Thanks, Scott.
That’s the spirit, Liz!
Fantastic video!
More of this please
I went to where Scott posted this on YouTube looking to slap a few Leftist trolls around and … Couldn’t find any. There are quite a few comments on the YouTube video but they’re massively positive in character. I had to satisfy my combative nature with dressing down a rude comment. That’s not as much fun as pulling the wings off of Leftist gadflys but it’s still better than nothing.
😉
Since I’m a missionary in Japan, these things aren’t open to me in terms of the US political situation, but I find myself very enthusiastic, both about the interview idea/format and at the practicality of what was discussed. May many be inspired to follow her example!
I went to three GOP County meetings in Orange County, CA when I lived there and no one made any effort to greet me. I spoke to other newbies who experienced the same thing. Finally, I took the initiative and was given the bum’s rush. Not an auspicious experience…
I’d imagine the local GOP meetings would take on the character of the local people. I used to live in CA too, but LA County not Orange County. So while I know there are some good, friendly people in CA … They’re not as easy to find as they might be elsewhere in the US.
Also there’s the possibility that you may have run into more of a “good ol’ boys” club than an actual political apparatus looking to expand the GOP Party influence in the area.
If so, that’s very foolish of those Orange County GOP people. But not at all surprising for California.
The real shame (none of it accruing to you) is that while it may be expected that the Democrat Party in California is doing its best to neuter the Republican Party, the Republican Party should be ashamed of helping them do it by driving people away.
Hey Scott, great interview. The best compliment I can give is “why where we not already doing this?” Honestly, this was a great idea.
Thanks, Henry. I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. Hope to do more.
I know DeAnna and she is really incredible. She really does so much in our community! Hats off to her, and to Scott for shining a light on this special Gal!!
I’d like to see more of this interview stuff with people like DeAnna. She’s an inspiration and inspiration is something we badly need on our side.
This was FANTASTIC! I’d love to see more interviews like this.
TwoThree Points:1 – Scott, I have said this before but you are an excellent interviewer. I would like to see more Scott talks to . . . X. I think the last one you did was the with the brothers who came up with a different way to put an elevator where only steps were. You need to use your skills to interview interesting people that are not necessarily conservative interviews in and of themselves, but aide the conservative agenda by the dint of the content.
2 – this should definitely be public. This type of how to model is needed to be out there for all. It should be cross-promoted at Patriot Post, PJ Media, Daily Wire and any other place that you guys have contacts. Even if Steve G embedded this as his “not everything is terrible” video on his weekly Insanity Wraps article. Let’s make use of what we have as platforms.
3 – DeAnna is everything that is good about BW.Com membership. We are not a monolith, but are a relatively like-minded group of individuals. Nice to see a voice given to one of the faces within the membership.
Well, Scott, you asked so …
I have nothing negative to say about this video and interview. People often wonder “OK, things are going to crap by the bucketload but what can I do about it?”
This is what you can do about it. Do what DeAnna is doing.
This is not only a good and interesting interview, it’s an instructional video. It’s a “how to” manual and we need more of this sort of thing.
Yes, please do more of these, it may very well be one of the more significant accomplishments of the BillWhittle.com enterprise.
Yes, please make these sorts of things available to the general public. We can argue for our side and against the other side if this is out there where we can do that.
We all like to come here to this site so that we can interact with people who nominally think like us. But this is preaching to the choir and the choir is already out there voting for our side in at least the major elections
We need to put a human face to our side and we need to support people like DeAnna too. It may not be DeAnna specifically that goes to Washington to represent our side but … People like DeAnna put those people into office. A soldier can only fight if someone gets him the beans and bullets to do so. The people transporting the beans and bullets are as vital to the fight as the soldier pulling a trigger. They don’t get nearly enough credit and I think they should get a lot more. DeAnna is that kind of person now but …
She’s young. I know people in the 40-ish demographic don’t think they’re young anymore but they are. They’re still in the phase of raising a family and doing the sort of thing our society needs them to do.
Over the next 20 years, DeAnna’s kids will grow up. Her personal financial situation will likely improve over what it is today. Her spare time will increase at some point after the kids grow up. She will have spent 20 years working in the field of grass roots, hands-on politics and not only learned a lot but also generate a lot of networking and support. She may at that future date decide to run for a national office and if she does she’ll have the resources to win.
Let’s help people like DeAnna win. Let’s help people at DeAnna’s phase of life get involved so that they can grow and win someday. Giving instructions and showing how someone like DeAnna is accomplishing what she’s doing is beyond helpful. It’s vital.
I’ll tell you why that applies to my situation personally.
We moved from the Soviet Socialist Repooblik of Kalfornia several years ago. My sister and her family were part of that move. Since we left Kalifornia I’ve heard my sister complain many times about “not having any friends here”. I’m going to look into the things DeAnna said she did in Montana and see what’s available here along those lines. I’m not a ‘friends making’ kind of person, I’m not a ‘joiner’ at all though I do belong to a couple community service volunteer organizations and have been ‘promoted’ to managerial status for my efforts thereby. I’m not at all a people person but my sister very much is. We’re old pharts and we don’t get around very well so there’s likely not a lot we can do that’s as active as what DeAnna is doing but … We can go and make some friends and find out what help we can accomplish within our means. I’ll do this for my political views but even more important to me is to do it so my sister can make some friends.
I like DeAnna, she’s my kind of people and I’d love to see more content like this.
Well done DeAnna and Scott! It’s uplifting to see the next generation of leaders, it really gives me hope for the future, once all the old farts retire.
Excellent interview, Scott (er… Web McMaster, Good one!); Old farts like me get a little dopamine bump seeing young folk take an interest in the fate of not just themselves but the community in which they live. Thumbs up to DeAnna if she’s reading this.
Really enjoyable listen. Scott, you did a great job asking on point and meaningful questions and DeAnna is a very good interviewee, and an inspiration. Thanks to you both. I would enjoy seeing more of these types of shows.
Thanks DeAnna for stepping up! The old adage of many hands makes light work is so true.
Good stuff! Do more, release publically. And your interview skills are very good. Bravol
I appreciate the encouragement, Harry.
