When she ran for Georgia governor, she had a net worth of about $109,000. Now, Stacey Abrams, mulling a second run, has a net worth north of $3.5 million, and annual income beyond that as well. Should politicians — or wannabe politicians like Abrams — become public service millionaires?

The R/A team might think about taking a similar look at Beto Orourke. Here you have a guy who has NEVER done an honest bit of work in his life. Many asked why he is running for governor of Texas- having previously been soundly defeated in his attempt to take on Ted Cruz for senator. Well, that’s an easy answer. He has no choice.
You see, as long as people like Stacy Abrams and Beto are running for office, they can tap into their election treasure chest. They can charge their transportation, living, meals, virtually anything to the effort to get them elected. Should they stop running for office, they cannot utilize that money, because they have no election effort to which they can attach themselves,. So, poor Beto and Stacy would then have to find jobs at something they could earn a living for- like barista or something equally challenging.
And it’s probably the same for most who run for office. Once trapped there- can you ever return to your day job? For instance, could I take four years off from an engineering job, and expect to come back to it at the same level I left it? That’s not an excuse, but it makes this sort of thing more understandable. It’s hard to leave the world of wine, women and song once you have tasted it I guess.
As for Stacy’s book deals, I suspect they’re a lot like Obama’s. George Soros buys one million pallets of books from you and burns them and you make a best-seller list somewhere though nobody ever reads one. Serendipity.
I’m surprised that no one has mentioned that Stacey Abrums was recently cast as the President of Earth in the last episode of Star Trek Discovery.
On second thought, I’m not surprised that no one mentioned it because no one watches that horrible show.
Crime DOES pay… but only for a little while. Also, Stacey Abrams’ status as a “loser” is independent of any election results.
Asking a Dem to give away “her own money”? You know you know better.
Steve, I think it was, in Rush’s words—Ft. Worthless, Jim Wright who had the book with one or two words on each page that landed him a book deal worth millions. I may have a faulty memory so you can do the checking.. Love all the vids that you 3 guys do and the service you perform.
Thank you, it was Jim Wright!
There were several congress critters who did this sort of stuff. Jim Wright’s was one of the most egregious, as the “books” were nothing but his repackaged speeches in congress and not s single copy ever was sold publically.
Guys – I recommend a followup of this discussion based on what Benjamin Franklin wrote about “offices of profit” in his pamphlet entitled “Information to Those Who Would Remove to America” – especially his quote of the original Pennsylvania constitution. Please comment on this!
Please!!
Steve’s shot was legitimate, just as Bill’s “Malevolent Manatee of Michigan” was legitimate so many years ago. SUPER TIRED of playing nice with grifters on either side of the aisle.
(Michael Moore the Malevolent Manatee of Michigan – Bill’s Classic Afterburner Presentation of Iowahawk’s “Eat The Rich”, rings true today. Taxing the “rich” to death will not solve our spending problems)
Leftists laud everything ugly, decadent and filthy at least as far as it pertains to anything they can foist upon those who value beauty, moral character and purity. I hear it claimed frequently that leftist/elitists are consumed with guilt and that’s why they virtue signal and claim to be for the underdog. Balderdash. They feel no guilt – only pride and a sick sense of superiority.
Fortunately for us and the world, they aren’t reproducing themselves.
They don’t have to if they’re able to brainwash the children of us Normals
When Slo-Joe was running for POTUS, I did a little analysis of this person who spent nearly his entire adult life to national elected office. Starting in 1973 thru 2008 as a Senator – Joe would have “earned” $3,781,350 plus any Senate bumps for “leadership” positions.
As VP – Another $1,880,800.
For a total of $5,662,150 + some figure prior to the end of the 2nd Obama term. He is paid $500k now as Potus? and has 4 years of time when his salary was out of public knowledge. So, total “earnings” since 1973 is roughly $6.66 Million plus whatever he got as senate bumps and in the 3 years of PDT when he was not technically running for office.
And his Net Worth is 20% higher than his total earnings. Pretty amazing.
Makes one wonder what type of outside income Joe has had over the past 50 years.
Love the power of the question mark… Potus¿
LOL – a happy error, I should have put it after the 500k, as I was questioning the salary of POTUS.
Well, I recently read that he is actually a professor at U Penn. And there is a Biden institute there, similar to the Clinton Institute.
Scott, I’m surprised at you. Dem’s never give their money to help the poor. They only give other people’s money, usually through taxing the ‘wealthy’ (i.e., those who pay taxes).
The political grift machine is truly amazing and sickening.
Recall that avowed Socialist Bernie Sanders, when running for POTUS, hired his wife’s company to do their ad buys. Typically, the company that does that takes a percentage of the total, 15-20%.
So Bernie raises millions to run for office, runs ads, and gives his wife a chunk of the raised money for professional services.
Now multiply this type of activity across various positions need to “run” a campaign.
This reeks and is also why someone who has little skill has multiple homes.
I recall also reading somewhere that the Clinton’s were paying Chelsea $600k per year to “run” their foundation- this one year out of college. Affirmative action hire?
Gentlemen, I am very disappointed that you have missed the obvious solution. Stop having membership drives, and each of you need to run for public office! Heck, you might even be able to stop having to charge for memberships!
Bill has a conflict of interest here: He is paid to give speeches on political topics. Abrams is paid for the same reason. But there is a big difference: Bill is not, far as I know, angling for political office, whereas Abrams was and still is. Thus the payments to Abrams smack of bribery for favors-to-come. I don’t know what the solution is, but like Scott, I smell something rotten.
Stacy Abrams must own a lot of black slaves.
I don’t know if you guys watch the new Star Trek Discovery series, but Stacey was recently cast in a cameo appearance as “President” of Earth. Yikes! I imagine woke Paramount paid her a tidy sum!
Anyone who willingly watches STD, Picard, or any of the other garbage Woke Trek gets exactly what they deserve. I actually did watch the first two seasons of STD and Picard S1 (free trial to Paramount +) out of morbid curiosity, and they were exactly the trash I expected them to be. What they’re doing to Roddenberry’s legacy is disgusting.
Even worse than the wokeness of STD, the writing is so awful that after two seasons I found myself asking a simple question – was there a single character on this show I was supposed to find remotely interesting? I found myself asking the same of all of the new characters in the last Star Wars trilogy
Never watched STD. When I saw that they were going to retcon original STTOS I ran screaming from it. From what I have heard, it is worse than I feared. There is a Youtube movie commentator* who hilariously refers to the captain of the series as “Diverse Female Space Jesus”. Which – aside from the diverse part (unless Laura Dern’s purple hair counts as diverse) could also refer to what Disney – by way of Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson – did to Star Wars in the abominable “The Last Jedi”. Ugh.
* a funny and insightful guy I would recommend who calls himself “The Critical Drinker” (warning: lots of language in his vids)
Dude… The Drinker is one of my favorites! I think that only Razorfist does a better profanity laced tirade!
And of course it was Doomcock that gave us that memorabkle phrase, The Bestest Evarrrr”
Mecharandom42 is another good one – I think it was she who first coined the phrase “Mikey Spock”
Well to be honest for me the profanity is more of a distraction than a plus. But the drinker’s commentary is so spot on and funny I love his vids. It was so great to find someone who agrees with me on what has happened to scifi and movies in general lately. And I always look forward to the final “That’s all I’ve got for today… go away now.” 🙂
I agree with you on the cuss words – puts the focus on your choice of words over the message your trying to broadcast. That said, as a Gen-X Jersey Boy I’ll always have an appreciation for a well woven tapestry of profanity. And few do it as well as Razorfist and The Drinker!
The lesson learned from Abrams is that to become a multimillionaire, just become the face of racial unfairness – deserved or not, pander to the Left’s elites who wallow in deep guilt in their being born white and entitled, cry “victim” every time you fail, and do book deals and speaking appearances.
And it may feel “unclean” to make so much money from politics, but it is the greatest fountain of wealth that there is. Last I checked, maybe 6 or 7 of the richest counties in the USA surrounded Washington, DC.
Worked out well for Al Sharpton.
Abrams owed the IRS (that means us, the taxpayers) $54K; she had credit card debt up to around $65K, and she had student loans up to $94K. All of this as recent as 2018. Yahoo reports she paid off her debts in 2019, and she’s purchased two homes – one for her with a hefty mortgage, and another for her parents. She whines about being criticized about “being successful” – but as has been pointed out by Scott, Bill, and Stephen, she got paid handsomely by a lot of people to flap her substantial mouth. Apparently those people like to hear from failures.
Thank you, Steve, for the the “There are no little bits of her” comment. I was reminded of the same thing when I saw the video thumbnail. We don’t call them fat cats for nothing. Such engorgement using publicly-funded sources needs to be stopped, because the public funding is rarely voluntary.
I do not know why people love her so much. She is not inspirational to me at all… but they do campaigns like: https://legalinsurrection.com/2020/05/stacey-abrams-in-a-cape-for-wapo-profile-the-image-you-cant-unsee/
Leftists need some person to raise as a deity. I got to see it firsthand living in DC when Barry O first came into office. This is why they fetishise overrated, heavily flawed people like Ginsberg, Fauci, and most recently, the child molestation sympathizer who just got on the Supreme Court.
And sadly, via Sister Babe’s subscription to the weekend edition of The Washington Compost, I had to see the actual physical pictures from your link
I am not going to click that link – because I remember it.
Really is an image you can’t unsee.
My cat brain made me click. 🤢
I actually don’t care if politicians make money off of books and speaking engagements. Doesn’t bother me at all.
What feels weird is having someone make a lot of money off of promising to help poor people become not poor, or less poor. Especially when you never made it to the office from which you proposed to facilitate that effort. But even if you do. Seems a little off.
