Video editing is so fun now. My razor is just a icon in Premiere and not something which my clumsy self can use to cut the absolute crap out of myself. πŸ™‚
— G.K.

We discovered that, Ed, and the episode we shot was flushed down the memory hole.

Actually, if it is true, this race-based grading negatively-affects all kids regardless of skin color. The obvious kids are those who gain an artificial grade increase based upon melanin; however those who do not will likely learn to hate the others. This is racist division of culture at its core, and it needs to be fought by ANY means necessary. I am in favor of very harsh punishments for those who promote it — up to and including public execution — because it MUST stop!

Steve, is that special connector on both ends? That does seem like a really dumb thing to do. Would be nice if you could take it off and poke the wire through, then re-attach it.

Bill, you were right. The Critical Drinker was GUSHING over Maverick. I rarely have heard him so animated. The other show he gushed over was The Expanse. If you guys haven’t seen it I highly recommend it. It is currently the best sci fi out there!

Yeah…but they know exactly what and where the risks are, and aren’t climbing every day of their lives. Just sayin’ lol.
Try not to be dependent on tech at least. One good EMP and we’re all going to have to get used to some pretty old school thinking.

When it comes to movies, I kind of go with…𝕃𝕠𝕧𝕖 π•Ÿπ• π•₯ π•₯𝕙𝕖 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕, π•Ÿπ• π•£ π•₯𝕙𝕖 π•₯π•™π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜π•€ π•šπ•Ÿ π•šπ•₯.

That word…race. It’s really nonsensical. Since it’s the Human Race, not plural. Which is why I often use terms like, “breed” and “breedist”. lol

Now, practically anyone can make a feature film level production without all that crap. Unfortunately, that means any idiot can make a film. lol

I was done w/ Star Wars after Mauler’s 5hr takedown of “The Last Jedi”. And I’m not gonna give Disney+ monies to see the shows.

“The Final Countdown” give far better naval aviation porn than “Top Gun” did. I’ve only seen “Top Gun” once. I’m good.
Actually, even “Flight of the Intruder” was better than “Top Gun”.

I actually liked “The Final Countdown”. Goofy premise, but hey. Kirk Douglass, Martin Sheen, Charles Durning and the ever lovely Katherine Ross. Plus a cool dog. Thought it was a fun 90 minutes.

Yeah…that one is worth watching occasionally. Classic without Liberal indoctrination.

But let’s be honest here, those guys were just co-stars. The Nimitz and VF-84 were the two stars of that film. And it appears to be intentionally shot that way.

True dat. My favorite line might have been – “Turn the Nimitz into the wind”
Went out of their way to name the ship. Not some heading and speed, not turn us into the wind in prep for aircraft launch. Not turn the boat. Turn the NIMITZ.

In anticipation of seeing Maverick this weekend, we watched Top Gun on Memorial day evening. We really enjoyed it. Hadn’t seen it in 20 years. If I hadn’t seen the Drinker’s review, I probably wouldn’t be going.
I was one of those guys who was planning on bouncing planes off a carrier deck. A shoulder injury playing rugby fixed that for me. They didn’t need to wait for me to heal since so many were going.

The movie Top Gun was what inspired my son to become a Navy pilot, like many others of his generation. Even those who didn’t make it to actually get their wings were inspired to service by that movie.

I don’t know when Maverick releases but he’s planning to take the whole family to a nearby IMAX to see it.

My dad wanted to bounce planes off flight decks too. Wasn’t good enough to make it. So, to make the guys who washed out feel better, they sat them down and showed them about 30min of planes crashing into flight decks and killing the pilots. That worked, the guys felt better about going to P-3s

My alternate path was the CIA. Fortunately for me, the guy who conducted my final interview was such a primo douche that I opted for building things instead.

CIA attracts primo douches, you wouldn’t have liked it. You’re not a douche, primo or any other grade.

P-3 Orions are a good gig for the Navy. They’re too big to land on/take off from aircraft carriers so they’re always land based instead of carrier based.

Home every night and sleeping in your own bed.

Your lengthy opening riff on film/tape recording reminds me how far we’ve come as a civilization in just a couple of generations. My grandparents witnessed the leap from horse and buggy to a man on the moon, probably the most dramatic transformation in mankind’s history. I’ve lived to see an absolutely astounding transformation in medicine, technology, and mobility of goods, services, and personal travel.
Einstein, sitting on bench in a park in Austria, comes up with the theory of relativity, etc., and we became able to prove his theorems. Unbelievable.

If only it was also happening with our morals and ethics rather than going the other way.

Scott, Steve, there are schools going the other way. . . no valedictorians at all so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings.
And Scott, my mother managed my brother’s little league team (AND was den mother for his cub scout pack) and it was the same deal as yours: ice cream place right across the street from the field, so win or lose, the team was treated to ice cream cones after the game.

My daughter’s high school (she just finished college, how did that happen) was one of those that decided that anyone with >4.0 would be considered a Valedictorian. So roughly 15% of the class was a “valedictorian”. That is not the stupidest part. The worst part was there was still a “salutatorian” which is supposed to be the guy who came in second. But now he was the first guy who finished with a 3.9998.
Oh, and if you asked anyone in 2018 who was #1, they would all give the same name. The kid who got the perfect SAT and went to Harvard for Biochemistry/premed.

When Top Gun came out, I was stationed at CTF 64/69 (Commander Submarine Group 8) colocated with CTF 67 (Commander Naval Air Forces Med) in Naples Italy. The first showing on base was reserved for all the CTF-67 personnel. Imagine a theater filled with active duty sailors with gold and silver Air Warfare Pins. Yep, really great movie.

Looking forward to this weeks shows. BTW saw Top Gun Maverick last Friday on the 27th and it was a glorious throwback to old time story telling in the jet and computer age.
