Pure Platinum: The Charming Power of Elizabeth Regina…with One Bumbling Bear

Bill Whittle is half-British, on his Mum’s side, but all three men of Right Angle appreciate the graceful influence on civilization exercised these 70 years by Elizabeth R.

As Brits celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, a delightful video of Elizabeth Regina with Paddington Bear reminds us of the impact of the British monarchy, and the significance of 70 years of this stoic, stable — even charming — monarch.

I adore the Queen — the perfect personification of the British Empire. Loved the story about Bill’s Grandfather and Prince Phillip. And you know its interesting — Queen Elizabeth sat on the throne for 70years, and Amber Heard couldn’t do it for even one night!

Here’s hoping Hollywood doesn’t try and duplicate the Paddington/Queen get together with a Joe Biden/Cookie Monster rip-off. It would give him a ten point jump in the polls whether it was deserved or not.

America can’t have this kind of pageantry yet.
70 years, same job.
George Soros is next.
He likes MegaDeath music, by the way.

Bill, I wished our Presidents had as much class as her.
But, they did not have killer rabbits in England.
Oops, forgot they DID have vorpal bunnies.

Queen Elizabeth II came out in 1956 to visit Nigeria which was one of her colonies at the time. I was attending a boarding school there and we were so excited to take a field trip to the city of Jos so we could attend a parade honoring her. We girls had to learn how to curtsey and the boys to bow. She was so gracious and stopped the driver of the car she was riding in so she could thank us. I never met her personally but stood about 15 feet from her. Not long after Nigeria was granted independence (1960), I believe. Within a few years it descended into anarchy and Biafra seceded followed by civil war unfortunately.

From sunny Eastbourne, Sussex, in little old Englandshire, just to say a wonderful video, just lovely! The USA is the prime example of any country without a monarchy fighting itself to death trying to get one. We all know who is the presumptive Queen of the USA. Such a shame her coronation in 2016 was wrecked.

The fact that that little boy on the beach remembered your grandfather when he was an adult with burdens and duties that few if any could ever hope to understand, is extortionary. The is a quiet dignity that I always saw in Queen Elizabeth. 70 years, I don’t know if she will see 80 years. But I would not bet against it. I would have loved to have had the chance to wet a fly line with Prince Phillip.

Fantastic video chaps.
You hit the nail on the head, it’s about continuity. Here’s a little nugget of that continuity. HM The Queen is still our Queen today in 2022, her first Prime Minister, in 1952, was Sir Winston Churchill. When Churchill first entered parliament in 1900 the queen was Victoria, who came to the throne in 1837.

Another quote from the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother during the war comes from just after the first bombing of Buckingham Palace mentioned by Bill. It was suggested to her that it might be safe to evacuate the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret to Canada. She replied.

“The children will not leave unless I do. I shall not leave unless their father does, and the King will not leave the country in any circumstances whatever.”

Currently The Queen is the longest reigning female monarch ever, and currently the third longest monarch. Louis XIV of France is the longest (he cheated by becoming king at the age of four). Bhumibol/Rama IX of Thailand, who died in 2016. She will pass Bhumibol at the end of this week, and Louis XIV in May 2024, God Willing.

By the way, the EiiR post boxes won’t be changed. Any and all new post boxes will have the new royal cypher, but we still have post boxes in use from the reigns of The Queen’s father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandmother.

The anecdote about the Queen Mother exemplifies the grit and determination of the embattled nation. I dare suggest that Sir Winston looked to the monarchy to bolster his own well-established grit and determination.
