Avatar (and Titanic, and Aliens) director James Cameron says his days of F-bomb laden fights with movie executives are behind him.
“A lot of things I did earlier, I wouldn’t do — career-wise and just risks that you take as a wild, testosterone-poisoned young man,” he says, declining to specify further. “I always think of [testosterone] as a toxin that you have to slowly work out of your system.”
— James Cameron to The Hollywood Reporter
The vegan director’s new movie, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water‘ comes out this week, in hopes of topping his world-beating numbers from the original.
Alfonzo Rachel and Bill Whittle go off on a manly rant against Cameron’s misattribution of the cause of his past immaturity and bad behavior.

Try to keep this short. T is not toxic, it is addictive. It drives the mammalian reproductive process. In small amounts (female) it drives the sex urge. In males it also commands the sex urge but also the aggression urge to be the alpha male & thus the winner of the fertilizer of the female. Hence the yearly fights to the death of most mammals to be the victor as the inseminator of the females. The strongest, fittest get to reproduce with the females (the strongest male get ALL the females) & invoke natural selection insuring mutations that produce the best & strongest progeny & advance the species. Females by design chose only to the strongest & fitest to mate with thereby insuring her genetic legacy & best opportunity produce new & stronger offspring. I could write a book about human biological chemical addiction. It’s to insure advancement & stronger newer offspring.
So, I know that this is going to be controversial, but I agree with James C. We must, as men, release our toxic testosterone. I read that making love to the person you love does exactly this. So, men.. step up.
What do women want? Whatever we say, however crazy we become, no woman wants an estrogen infused wimp.
My first thought when I read Cameron’s comment regarding testosterone being toxic was, “so, he can’t get it up anymore?” Ugh. TMI.
BTW, I believe (doesn’t mean it’s correct) there’s something in maritime law that allows men who board lifeboats before women and children – of course during a maritime emergency only – to be shot.
As horrible as that may sound, it makes sense. Cowardice isn’t to be rewarded, but also, protecting the vessel of our species is how humanity has survived.
I’m guessing Ms. Cameron’s days of producing anything anyone wants to actually watch are behind him/her/they/it too. I wonder if The Lochiel can expel folk from the Clan Cameron? On the women and war bows thing, check out this video from Lyndybeige. Ygritte from Game of Thrones – how strong is she really? – YouTube
They do cut a way from her a lot so she could relax then. But still impressive.
Notice that the prop bow is covered in cloth so you can’t actually see the bow itself. There was probably a 15 lb. fiberglass kids target bow under all that covering.
Probably correct. But at least I noticed she wad not on camera the whole time.
Yeah, I didn’t mean to say that you missed something important. It’s a combination of the scene cuts and a prop bow that allowed the illusion that a 130 lb. woman was holding a 180 lb. war bow at full draw for over a minute.
BTW, Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Harry et. al.
Merry Christmas to you and all your loved ones as well.
And have a happy New Year too.
This anti-testosterone, anti-male thing is all part and parcel of the larger utopianist ideation. I.E. —
If we can just get rid of male aggression the world will become a utopia.
If we can just implement real socialist communism the world will become a utopia.
If we can just make everyone accept deviant personalities as normal the world will become a utopia.
Etc.
This is a fool’s dream of creating a heaven on Earth. Human beings are not capable of authoring our own paradise. Human beings are capable of great things but that is not one of them.
The best we can hope for is to steadily improve the human condition which is what we have done historically. Thanks to Western culture there are a greater percentage of free human beings living in ever greater wealth today than there have ever been in history.
The very heart of Conservative ideology is to take the things we know work and make them better. We know there’s no such thing as human perfection and we’re cautious about changes that are not founded on what has been proven to be effective. History teaches us that in striving for utopian perfection, or listening to those who promise that, leads to less freedom and less wealth for everyone.
The old axiom of “If it sounds too good to be true it isn’t true” applies here vigorously.
Lack of male aggressiveness sounds mighty fine until you need aggressive males to protect you from other aggressive males. One of the highest and most satisfying states for a man is to protect his own starting with family and working up to country. If you neutralize that state you get aggression without protection. Just as the solution to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, if you take the gun and the will to use it away from the good guys all you have is armed bad guys to whom everyone else is prey.
Socialism sounds great in theory to some people but those people do not understand that socialism collapses every economy it has gained traction in and will always do that.
The normalization of decadence and deviance has always led to social collapse. If you dissolve the underpinnings that hold society intact it will implode. The people today who advocate the normalization of fringe personalities are promoting the collapse of working, workable society.
Evil always masquerades as good. This is intentional and makes it difficult to discern evil from good. The German people of 1933 thought they were doing good by allowing Adolf Hitler to come to power. The Russians of the Bolshevik Revolution in the latter part of the first decade and the early part of the second decade of the last century believed they would usher in a “Worker’s Utopia” and even called their busted-ass tyranny just that for decades afterwards.
Just because something claims to be good doesn’t mean it is. Worse yet, something that claims to offer a utopian paradise on Earth is sure to create conditions much closer to hell than heaven.
Human society does best when it strives to improve on things proven to work. Paradise on Earth will always exceed our grasp.
If we accept this and try to do the best we can the world will continue to steadily improve.
If we do not accept this and think we can leap all the way to utopia in one bound the crash when we miss and fall becomes proportionately terrible to the degree of advancement we’re abandoning when we make that jump.
Bill, what’s up with the hair?
I believe the Left is against any and everything natural, because it was created by God. They declare Gaiea supreme by choosing to ignore that ALL that “is” was created by God. All of nature operates on procreation, which in the case of humans, demands testosterone. By devaluing men, the Left promotes the end of humanity.
Some say the part about ending humanity out loud. I always say “You first.”
No takers so far.
Also like PB, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and the Hunt for Red October. So much so that I have a lot of the lines memorized.
In response to a bet (just for bragging rights) I memorized all the lines to “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”
I still remember about 90% of the lines.
“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
“As you wish.”
Whoops! Wrong movie!
Inconceivable!
Included in Mrs. Jackson’s favorite movies are “Kill Bill”, “Predator”, and “Terminator”. Some of mine are “Princess Bride”, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, and “Forrest Gump.” I have no choice but to “man up” when I come through the front door after work. Without masculinity I wouldn’t be married to this woman. That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate warm-hearted themes and comedy. I wonder if Wesley’s masculinity is toxic? Sir Robin’s? Forrest’s?
Sir Robin is a bad example. “Run away. Run away.”
That is a nice list! PB is one of my all time favs. I wanted to call our current dog Inigo. Didn’t work out. Daughter got to name her.
I know this is from out of left field, Ron Swanson Alter Ego, but have you seen “Cruella”? It’s the back story of “101 Dalmations” evil De’Ville character. Surprised me with its plot, acting, costumes, cinematography, etc. Not manly either.
No we didn’t go see that one. Seemed like it was not in the theatres very long. If it hits one of our streaming services we may give it a look.
Mrs Road and I have watched Ahnold in one of his more obscure movies “Last Action Hero” at least a dozen times. So much testosterone oozing from the screen I had to get a special cleaner to get it out of the carpet. I think the cleaner was called Avatar.
Those are some of my favorites too, add Secondhand Lions to that list.
When you push masculinity out of society, that void gets filled by other men. Europe is learning this the hard way
And this.
