A Stones Throw From Division

Well, it is good to be back on BW.com. I came back just in time for GarageGate, the Davos debacle, and Conservative infighting.

About that infighting:

I recall a popular conservative female waging war on another popular conservative female, in the not so distant past. Dust flew, blows were exchanged, accusations reached the Armstrong Limit and…Well? Did it change the direction of our ideas? Did it alter the course of our collective fate? Did we ,by this fight, step forward into greater enlightenment?

Better said, does a squabble define the whole of an ideology or does it speak to the idea that people have individual perspectives and always will?

That is the idea, is it not? We put forth an argument that best describes our point of view. Having done so, we listen to the argument against our claims, and meet somewhere closer to the truth…Right? Or is the point to inflict and wound, maneuver and take ground, parry and thrust for the heart? I guess I find it difficult to tell, these days.

listening to the arguments of the recent verbal combatants, I have come to the conclusion that it isn’t my fight. After the arguments were aired before a simpering world of leftist trolls, I came to the conclusion that I don’t have a dog in this fight. It is not the case that I do not have an opinion. It isn’t even the idea that I think all parties acted in great or poor fashion.

No, the truth is that I’d rather use the tremendous vat of boiling rage, delivered to me by social media, news, and cultural events , to pour out truth against a runaway government. I would rather castigate the radical rodents of the WEF. My preference is to aim my scouring disapproval at the half naked, middle aged men in X rated Carmen Miranda costumes who cannot be troubled to keep their dangling members away from children. I choose to get heated about the banning of gas stoves, more than whether two or more people disagree on a financial/ethical matter.

We are a people that strongly believe in individual liberty. That comes with a drive to walk our own way. That means that every person’s proverbial compass points to a different heading. If we forget that, our cause looks just a little bit silly. Hopefully, these folks find common ground soon. It is difficult to do that in a war zone, though.

There are already folks gathering stones and building virtual gibbets on social media. While that isn’t new, it is a disturbing tick in the Conservative body. It has repeated itself so many times that we are beginning to look like the party of political Tourettes. Hauling out the sabers and standards against one another doesn’t “clean house”. It doesn’t help clarify our collective course. It just makes enemies of past friends. It offers a tantalizing target for the left wing to steer the eyes of everyone (including us) toward our weaknesses. In the end, it will mean nothing but division in the Conservative community. That is sad. It is also something akin to suicide. We have a list of challenges as long as Biden’s classified document collection. Can’t we put this one away for a while?

When two men gather stones against one another, bring some mortar and help them build a bridge.

Glad to be back with the folks of BW.com!
