Dilbert Gets Cancelled

After a recent outburst of double-plus ungood crimethink, Scott Adam’s classic cartoon has been dropped by many papers that have carried Dilbert for decades. Is there a line for free speech, and if so, what should happen when you cross it?

Scott Adams has always had a sharp pen, and he is perhaps the only cartoonist with the technical background and sense of the absurd to make an engineer hilarious. But after a recent outburst of double-plus ungood crimethink, he has been dropped by many papers that have carried Dilbert for decades. Is there a line for free speech, and if so, what should happen when you cross it? Steve, Scott and Zo wrestle with the problem while Bill wrestles with five days without studio internet.

It is racist to call somebody racist.

That IS actually what the woke believe — but only if you’re white. And they see no contradiction in that. And that is what he’s calling out.

I think the whole point was that he was calling the hypocrisy out.

Wokeism is a religion of all sin, and no redemption – and this calls it out. Once they have decided who the target is – and they have – there is nothing you can do to redeem yourself, and yet you are to try every day.

So ok, IF all of this is true, why should white people even play the game? That’s what he’s saying. I don’t think he was serious, he was throwing out “hey, if this is really what you all believe, this is the logical conclusion”. And I really think it’s mainly addressing the white liberals who push this ideology – not the black people. He’s saying — hey, white liberals, you are NOT applying the same standards here. Your ideology is hogwash.

His “lumping everyone together” is EXACTLY what the woke are doing with white people. For once, I don’t see how Scott can’t see that this is what he is calling out (you’re still my buddy, though, Scott, as evidenced by how you closed the show out starting at 23:00)

His politics HAVE gotten into the Dilbert strip, and I have enjoyed them. I think the proggies have been itching for an excuse to cancel him.

And they got it.

Once upon a time, a cartoonist wished he could be #1–but The Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes stood in his way. Then they went away and Scott Adams got what he had wished for.
I’m inclined to hear what he has to say–precisely because he doesn’t need our approval anymore.

So … couple things. I’ve watched Scott Adams podcast fairly regularly since around 2017. In that time, he was canceled before for supporting Trump, so this is nothing new for him. He’s well-aware what he did was provocative, refuses to apologize, and says he even did it deliberately to provoke in order to grab energy and attention to himself in the “No press is bad press” kind of way. That said, he claims he’s using that energy to bring attention to a problem of hypocrisy and anti-white racism.
I don’t agree with his conclusions, but I understand them, and think he overgeneralized. He also claims the poll size is largely irrelevant because it merely reaffirms what he experienced in his own life and what people say behind closed doors, as it were. The reason for the poll question – to answer Scott Ott’s inquiry – is that many people genuinely DO think it’s not ok to be white and say as much out in public. I imagine the people at Rasmussen wanted to try and see how pervasive that attitude actually was.
Dilbert isn’t Scott Adams only revenue source. He has a number of business ventures and investments to provide him with what he calls “F-U Money.” So he’ll be alright financially and even pointed out that being rich is what enables him to speak the truth because he can survive it.
Sprinkled throughout many of his podcasts are actual genuinely good pieces of advice for people in general, and especially black people. So I think ultimately, the only people who are leaving him over this are the people who were either already his enemies or who are gaslit by the media into not looking too deeply into the issue themselves.

Thanks for pointing out the number of respondants. I didn’t know that.

OTOH, someone did that poll and put it our there for people to see. Why?

For the response potential, obviously. To me, anyway.

I feel like I read an entirely different response from Scott Adams. I thought it was as simple as If you black folks think it is not OK to be white, I think white folks should not feel the need to have anything to do with blacks. It was a response to the stupid poll and the stupid people’s stupid, media and pop culture driven, stupidly racist polling answers.

I watched a video in which two apparently left wing talking heads discussed/analyzed SA’s ‘sins’ and they then presented a replay of SA’s video which stirred up all the trouble. He made some observations about black culture which I did not find to be remotely racist. (Whether one agrees with him is another issue.) I have subscribed to his comic on his web site.

Too many people anymore fail to catch the “other side of the coin.” It may not always be a heads/tail situation. In the case of free speech, listeners have a responsibility to decide on their own what to believe or not, what to listen to or not. In my case, if I’d have heard what Adams was saying I probably would have gotten a good belly laugh out of it and forgotten about it. Leftist/libs/commies don’t have that innate sense.

Funny. You all three understand without understanding. I think Zo’s comment was closest to the mark: Adams was gaslighting. Free speech, thought before speech (think of the consequences!), yadda, yadda. I did not watch his podcast episode, and I did not follow the “explanation” aftermath. I do, however, have one question: who is absolutely certain that Adams thinks the way that he talked? Seems like that is not at all up for consideration. Conclusion: he said it, he thinks it. Zo, yes, it was in American history NOT okay to be black. “Progress” seems to be that it someday WILL NOT be okay to be white. I believe it is a fact of today’s existence that racism is actually okay…as long as the target of the racism is white people (H/T, Ben Shapiro). We see examples of this every single day. That is, some “groups” are actually so steeped in past and present(?) wrongdoing that it is okay to generalize about anybody from that “group”, now and forevermore. Further, any person from a previously targeted “group” gets a pass for present and future bad behavior, because, well…racism.

Always appreciate Zo bringing us back to reality with a history lesson. It still amazes me how many people think Lincoln was a Democrat.
Oh, and those same people think the guy below was a Republican.

Yes, there is Free Speech. You can say what you want.
Scott was referring to Communication. Not the same thing. If I say something obtuse and the person with whom I am trying to communicate does not understand me, I need to pick better words not just repeat what I said the first time.

I felt he could have better worded what he was saying about “stay away from black people.” My wife is Asian and I’m White and I frequently tell my wife to be on extra alert when she’s in Black areas because crime is significantly higher there and many Asians have been attacked in those areas because they’re Asian. That’s how I interpret what he was saying. He’s even gone as far as to say its not ALL Black people, but 50% is a massive number.

Just a suggestion, don’t assume everyone knows what you are talking about. You are usually pretty good about providing a back story or for what ever reason I actually know what you are talking about. In this case, I still don’t know what Scott Adams said that got you so riled up. You made insinuations so I have a rough idea of your interpretation of what he said but a clip from his podcast would have been helpful. Also, it would have helped if some one had mentioned that the poll had only 130 respondents right at the beginning.

I knew what they were talking about because I had seen the Scott Adams video elsewhere. That said, every one of your points are good and are constructive. Not everyone has as much time as I do to keep up on these things and even then, there are people who have a lot more time than I do. Which creates a spectrum.

The only thing I would point out above and beyond what you said is that the BWC enterprise management might be considering putting this video up on YouTube and they didn’t want to get a strike for re-posting parts of Scott Adam’s video.

If that’s the case then a link here and only here on the member’s site would be handy for anyone who doesn’t know what this is all about.

Speaking of being canceled I see this video is posted on Rumble, but not YouShallObeyUsTube. Did they cancel or suspend Bill and company?

I think the keys to the YT kingdom reside with Bill at this point. So that upload will be delayed. Scott was able to upload content to the BW(dot)Com site to avoid us going dark for another 4 days.

Here’s a prediction: if Scott Adams’ cartoons go on paid subscription basis, then we will (or the paid subscribers will) get his true unvarnished thoughts on such matters. And it might not be pretty, since he will be both unchained, and harboring a supersized grudge.
