Besides women’s suffrage, Susan B. Anthony was a passionate advocate for abolition and temperance and a ardent opponent of “Restellism.” What the heck is that? Restellism included contraception, abortion, and infanticide. It’s named for a woman who grew very wealthy providing abortion medicines and surgeries during the middle of the 19th Century, Madame Restell , AKA Ann Trow Lohman. Anthony and her fellow activists decried “the crime of child murder, both before and after birth,” and worked to educate women so they would understand fetal development and realize that life begins at conception, not at “quickening,” when a mother first feels the baby’s movements. Let’s claim this historic pro-life champion for our own!
