We need to get more used to living with robots

This story is just too good not to share. Roomba trapped in bathroom. What is lost to history is whether this woman had yet had her morning caffeine.

Existence and Right to Property

Right. Left. Communism. Socialism. Fascism. Americanism. Parliamentarism. Bolshevism. Anarchosyndicalism. You can go on forever with this. If you want to cleave the philosophies of history in two, there is only one dimension that expresses the fundamental difference between the Red and Blue states: Property rights. You either have them, or you don’t. You are either […]

Nightwish

Scandinavia continues to produce interesting bands. Nightwish came together in Kitee, Finland in 1996 and continues to play even as members leave and new members arrive. Since 2002, they have included symphonic support, using such resources as the London Philharmonic Orchestra. “Nemo” is a song from their album Once, released June 7th, 2004. Contrary to […]

Aliens!

Well, no, actually this was the NASA Auroral Zone Upwelling Rocket Experiment, or AZURE (get it?) intended to study the interaction of charged particles in the Earth’s ionosphere. From the Express: Two rockets were launched from the Andøya Space Center in northern Norway. They measured the temperature and atmospheric density and deployed tracers including trimethylaluminum […]

F-35 Comes of Age

The F-35 fighter jet, designed to have as much commonality as possible between the services that use them, has had a long and rough development, but it has finally stepped up the plate as possibly the world’s best fighting plane. Linda Shiner, writing at Air & Space Magazine (affiliated with the Smithsonian), interviewed eight F-35 […]

Record-breaking me.

“President Obama was in Germany on Saturday, ostensibly to speak about ‘community leadership and civic engagement’ on behalf of his eponymous Obama Foundation, but Berliners soon discovered his main topic of interest was … Barack Obama.” Tom Elliott at Grabien goes on to document the numbers — 467 references to himself in one speech: Here’s […]

On the brink? Or over the abyss?

There has been much talk, from both sides, about whether or not this nation is on the edge of open civil war. E. M. Cadwaladr, writing in American Thinker this morning, seems pretty certain that we are: We and the Left are now two nations within one country.  This is undeniable.  We are now so different that […]

How heavy is the load in this case? Nearly 13,250 pounds, or about as much as a fully-loaded 27′ Winnebago. From NASA Spaceflight . com: Over […]

Sounds of Starbucks

I need to get out more. I’d never heard of this guy until my kids showed me a video last night. Since I couldn’t stop laughing until I had problems with wine and my sinuses, I thought I’d share it here. He could do with a little less hardware poked into his face, but that […]

One shot for Beresheet

(UPDATE: Successful burn!) The first private spacecraft likely to land on the Moon has to ace a critical engine burn at 10:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time today, or it won’t make it. From Spaceflight Now: The hydrazine-fueled main engine mounted to the base of the Israeli Beresheet lunar lander is set to ignite around 1415 […]

I didn’t know these existed

For all those others who didn’t either, take a look at this amazing gadget. Everybody else, scroll right on over this post. If I still lived in Florida, I’d have one of these (the board, not the lady — I was already married)!

Starhopper Hops

Confirmed today by a tweet directly from Elon Musk, the winged water tank that looks like a 1950s science fiction rocket with a nose job fired its engine and pushed off the ground: “Starhopper completed tethered hop. All systems green.” It was a very short test, but apparently the single Raptor engine was able to […]
