Bravo!
Excellent ! I can so see fans doing that !
Great idea. Now, if fans could only enter the arenas to try it out.
Bravo Bill. LOVED it.
In fact, maybe all patriotic fans at every sporting event should do this.
Players and fans can take a knee if they so choose – that’s freedom.
But equally, fans and players can sing the national anthem if they so choose.
Everyone gets to make their statement.
Suppose antifa shows up and start to beat and harass the people singing the anthem. Or suppose other fans start trouble. That might cause the NBA and other organization to ban the anthem.
Maybe Pelosi accuses the singers of insurrection.
THAT is when it’s most important to stand up and sing it anyway.
Finally – a solution…a remedy. I get so tired of hearing how the left is destroying everything from talk show hosts and journalists etc……but without solutions it’s just talk..and infuriating talk at that.
A while back, Bill, you said that the loss during this election was on us. And you are right. This is a way “us” can do something.
Yes a superb idea. Like all good ideas it’s simple, and requires no acquiescence or help from the officials from Cuban on down.
And as you say – it’s active.,..not passive. Demonstrative.
We need many many more ideas like this.
Great work!
Alternative Idea that might just please both crowds. Since I suspect season tickets sales will be down for a while, when they start having fans at games again organize a flash mob to go wait in line at the arena for tickets to that night’s game. Get there early enough to be first in the lines all 100 of you (1000).
Then when they open the ticket line, sing the National Anthem and leave.
Hopefully people seeing the line will figure they won’t get tickets and leave.
Then you sing the anthem and by leaving deprive them of the revenue.
So the idea of spontaneously singing the National Anthem at a Mavericks game opening is a good one, but how about this:
STOP GOING TO MAVERICKS GAMES. Don’t give that pompous liberal ass Mark Cuban, who is already a BILLIONAIRE, any more of your money. Stop watching the games on TV. Find something else worthwhile to do with your time besides watching a bunch of overpaid anti-American, BLM-supporting “athletes” running back and forth in a gym.
Read a good book. Watch Gomer Pyle re-runs. Take your dog for a walk. I’m sure you can come up with plenty of others your own.
Actually, while I like the idea of depriving Cuban of revenue, I like the opportunity to do something useful and positive – the opportunity for direct peaceful action – better.
Geez, Bill, tell us how you really feel. Right on Brother — wish I could be at a Maverick’s game just to make that stand.
Good idea on singing. That, or just walk out for a few minutes while they announce the players. I like the crowd singing part more, but ignoring the players and walking out also sounds appealing.
I didn’t even know they still played basket ball in the United States, I thought that was a Chinese sport.
Megyn Kelly proposed the same idea today.
OTOH, the NBA made it policy today, after this got noticed, that all of their games will have the national anthem played before the game starts. Cuban didn’t argue with that.
Somebody somewhere said that they stopped watching the NBA when they stopped playing defense. Me too. When I played in school, I took special pride in my defensive play. It wins games. Once, I was home sick the day of a game, so I couldn’t play. Our team won, but barely because there was a kid on the other team who scored 24 points. The next time we played them, I guarded that kid and he scored 2. We won in a blowout.
Great idea, I hope someone turns it into reality.
I was once part of a duo that sang the Star Spangled Banner before basketball games. The University of New Mexico had open auditions, and we sang it 3 years running (The Pit). The last 2 times we didn’t have to audition, we were asked which game we wanted.
In some ways I like this solution…
…but in some ways I think it would be more appropriate to sing the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China.
But to be honest, I don’t want either one badly enough to spend my money to support a business owned by Mark Cuban.
Seems that the Biden administration supports Cuban. I think that Bill’s suggestion has just gone from good idea to moral imperative.
So…..Scott Adams reaction to Cuban’s anti-American behavior was to brag about how smart Cuban is to solve the issue of some players kneeling during the National Anthem by simply not playing it. Adams went on and on about what a brilliant solution it is. Sometimes, Adams, smug and arrogant, just can’t help but reveal his California attitude. He said something like 17 games had been played before anyone said anything about the anthem not being played, like that was an indication that not playing it isn’t a big deal to anyone. Callow and shallow Scott Adams. Ugh.
It is smart, as defined by what Scott Adams thinks of as smart.
And Scott Adams is a little bit right, but often enough mostly wrong.
Ben Shapiro gets caught up in that “Facts don’t care about your feelings.” schtick.
Scott Adams gets caught up in that “Morally Neutral” pose too easily.
Intelligence means positing several responses, then deciding which is the best by adding in other dimensions, like Morality and Faith.
Good observation. The only reason I listen to him occasionally is he does sometimes bring a novel opinion to a subject. Interesting but usually dismiss-able. Mostly, though, I find him insufferably arrogant.
He’s also a Hypochondriac.
I doubt he would enjoy exploring the Persuasiveness of Grits instead of Hash Browns on the side of his Two Over Easy, or Iced Tea with Spearmint worked in alongside Crepes made in a space not much bigger than a closet.
ha ha ha – yes! He went Covid-hysteric in no time and still won’t let go of his certainty that masks are essential to stopping the spread. I didn’t listen to him for almost a year because of his hyper-fear of covid. His simultaneous sip schtick is a big turn off, too. That along with his mucous laden vocal tones usually chase me away. The best way to watch his videos is to hit pause and mute and read the comment section. Usually tells me all I need to know.
I think you’re all kind of missing the point of Adams. He’s really smart, but it doesn’t mean he’s always right. I listen to him becasue I probably agree with him @ 3/4 of the time, and when I disagree with him it’s usually in a big way (like here). But think about it – in today’s political climate, how often do you come across a big name that you disagree with who’s actually sane?
I listen to him with a Filter.
He sees the world in a way that colors what he says.
For instance, his indifference to Sports and to Athletes blinds him to what an Woman Athlete who loses to even an Altered Trans might feel losing to someone who walks in with what is an Unnatural (as Unnatural as a pair of enhanced breasts) Advantage.
Since he does not care, it is obviously not worth caring about, right?
Exactly my point. When Adams is wrong, he doesn’t just strike out – the bat flies out of his hands, fires into the dugout and manages to improbably hit three guys on the bench in the face with one shot. That said, how many well known personalities can you name who we consistently disagree with who 1) Isn’t insane, 2) Doesn’t openly hate us, or 3) Pretend to be on our side while quietly hating us (As in the Vichy Republicans (NR, Bill Kristol, Romney, etc)?
Adams is an excellent voice as long as you understand what you’re getting going into it. If you’re expecting some real Conservatives such as our Triumvirate here, or the likes of Kurt Schlichter, Mark Dice, etc. you’re going to be disappointed.
I expect Scott Adams to be Scott Adams, who now and again says something worth thinking about.
His arrogance is baked into the cake.
I hope he is more likeable in person, otherwise I would treat him as a Paid Consultant … “tell me what you got, take the check, and go.”
The PGA, a long while back, sent their 50th best golfer to speak at clubs and gatherings, because he was likeable, and better at faking it when he had to.
No insult is as detrimental as that insult lived out by the recipient. He has become the joke that is neither funny nor relevant.
More to the point, Why on earth would Patriots ever go to another Maverick’s game??????
Agreed! That is a superb idea– I’m not a basketball fan, but would go to a game just to participate in this “flash mob” idea 🙂
