The Comfortable Decline of “Reasonable” Conservatives

“Let’s not make waves.”

“This will pass.”

“We don’t want to look like radicals!”

Isn’t it interesting how “reasonable” Conservatives never want to speak out against the left? Is it not a study in the flimsy armor of pseudo-conservatism that, regardless the actions of radical leftists, these perpetually nervous people are always worried about the optics of large scale demonstrations, boycotts, and outcry from Conservative groups and individuals?

I recall a red-headed Reagan hating republican telling me that Republicans could do nothing in the way of fighting Obama’s agreement with Iran.

“What you want amounts to suicide! Every Republican candidate from now on will be called racist!” She fumed.

And that would differ from the normal leftwing narrative how?

When I was walking the streets of Atlanta with my TEA Party friends, I was scorned steadily by shoe tread print republicans, who earnestly believed that their place (and all others) was in the fetal position under the boot heel of leftwing media and politicians.

I was told that I was making a fool of myself and the party.

More people than I can recall scourged me for daring to speak out against the incrementalism of banning so-called bumpstocks. When I said that it was not a good idea and the worst move for Conservatives looking for voter turnout.

“Nobody even owns these things. You’re making it bigger than it really is.”

“Trump HAD to give the left something!”

When Conservatives worried that a shutdown would lead to the seizure of far too much power on all levels of government?

“Oh, here we go again with the conspiracy theories!”

“You cannot seriously think that civil disobedience is okay!”

Or my favorite, “People are DYING and all you can think about is the economy!”

Now, we see continued riots and violence all over this country. Why? Why are leftwing, neoMarxists convinced that we won’t really take action against horrifying violence and nationwide destruction of public and private property?

Well, it is because we will not take action. We will sit on our ample backsides, pay Hollywood their daily worship, make Facebook a little more wealthy, give Twitter a few more hours and dimes and we will do nothing.

I used to think that the lethargy was due to reasonable desires to see justice done through a justice system that we all believed in. You know, the justice system that has been criminalized by the networks that we watch and, therefore, fund. Our police officers have been blanket labeled as murderers. Our state and county judges have been corrupted or backed into dangerous political corners. Our federal courts are staffed by activist judges that probably should have been selling used cars to pensioners. Sure, let’s let that system bear the weight of overstuffed, lazy, un-patriots, while it struggles to maintain baseline function, as it is. Great idea.

If America falls (and that nightmare looks more possible every day) it will not be because of the just-out-of-tweenaged idiots burning cars to a crisp on America’s streets. It won’t be because of race-baiting, divide and conquer, malcontents, marching hysterically through our cities looking for someone to beat to death. It will not even be at the feet of media elites that push out lies like a verbal sausage grinder, 24/7.

Nope. It will be on us. It will be the bloated, lazy, uninspired, too busy, too dignified, “reasonable” Conservatives that sat on our calorie bags and complained to an inanimate television set about things that should have had us out in the streets helping, protecting and defending our friends, neighbors, our communities against this oozing tide of Marxist bile.

But, hey, we will look so reasonable during this decline into tragic history, dontcha think?

Many conservatives have forgotten our passionate fore bearers, people who said “radical” things like “give me liberty, or give me death”.
We’re convinced we can’t win, because we are told over and over that we’re the minority. That no one believes what we do, and so we should just shut up.
The defeat comes in our own minds first– we forget that it was a mere 3% of early Americans who freed us from being slaves and serfs to a country that cared nothing for our lives or liberty.
And many of us have become too comfortable with the veneer of conservatism, and rest in the shirt and tie, an the appearance of respectability.
All that is necessary for evil to win… is for good men and women to do nothing. Our enemies are trying to convince us to do just that.

Your words could not be more truthful. I feel the guilt of this daily.

I absolutely agree that Conservatives should stand up and speak out more. I know there are numerous reasons why many don’t, but if something is important enough people will find the time and opportunity. It doesn’t help that many of these large demonstrations are happening in the big cities where the Leftists live, so they don’t have to go far. A great many Conservatives live in smaller towns and rural areas, with fairly small numbers in the big cities (though they obviously do exist). So it requires more planning and effort to leave the job and find someplace effective (and hopefully not too distant) to go demonstrate. I know these aren’t great reasons in light of what’s at stake, but it does explain a lot.

In short, the people NOT demonstrating are the backbone of the country working everyday to keep things running. If they have to show up, their very absence from their work creates problems. That can be good and bad. The often apolitical backbone of the country needs to stop and get a view of their surroundings now and then. A lot of the problems we have now are because people have been asleep as far as politics and the government are concerned. That needs to stop.

So very true on many counts! We DO work when the left will not. We DO live outside of the corrupted cities. We ARE the people that work to pay for the very platforms that these violent, egotistical, tantrum throwers stand upon…So why do it?
Why ought we to pay for their nonsense? Why fund their riots? Why infuse a beast with the power to harm you?
I drove thirty minutes to take a MARTA about ten minutes, to walk to the peaceful assemblies in Atlanta. I was a blue collar business owner with a job, a mortgage, a wife, and a child. I did it anyway. I still do.
Challenges are just the sand before the tide. Keep rising and it melts away. Stop short and you become a distant noise no one cares about anymore.

The rules are different for us. (Not an excuse.) I’ve never torn up someone’s lawn sign or keyed someone’s car or cracked something over another’s head; the first two have been done to me and the third was done to the husband of a friend of mine at the 2016 Trump Rally in SJ. (I stayed home.) How far would you go – in terms of property damage and personal injury – to make any of the above points? A daughter – with an older grandson I have not seen in two years and a younger grandson I have not met – will not visit me b/c I own a firearm. (And a safe.)

Very valid points, Deborah. I appreciate those obstacles and challenges. Americans throughout this nations history have made sacrifices that were terribly painful. They are to be respected. Yours fall into the same category as a great many others. They are sad and unjustified attacks on a patriot. Still, these make up the power of a movement. If we crumble under these, we lose our freedom and our voice. We bleed either way.
The only violence that I advocate is reciprocal offense in the face of a threat. In that case…Whatever it takes.
On your first point, who are the rule makers? Who allows anyone to be a rule maker? The media is supposed to question power, not broker it. I believe that a movement which outlasts its opposition is (at least partially) victorious.
