Little known fact. Today is K9 Veterans Day. Anybody who has served in the Military around these working dogs or even been around the dogs in their working environment (Military or Civilian) will be able to tell you about their value. Mike Ritland runs an organization called Warrior Dog Foundation for the benefit of the retired dogs. This is a re-post of Mikes words and a link to one of my favorite charities WDF.
Mike Ritland:
Today is K9 Veterans Day, and K9 Rocky (the resident old man) is enjoying just hanging out in the grass. It is important for all of us to recognize and NEVER forget how valuable our four-legged partners are! When I take a step back and consider what these dogs are doing in the environments they are doing them in, it truly blows my mind. It’s impossible to quantify how many lives these amazing dogs save- but one thing there’s no debating is that it’s in the thousands. If not for these life saving K9s, many of our countrymen would not be here.
As many of you know I founded the Warrior Dog Foundation @warriordogfoundation to give a home to all working dogs. I am extremely grateful that through the years I’ve been able to provide these dogs with a place to retire, and receive nothing but the best mental and physical rehabilitation!
It is important for all of us to recognize and NEVER forget how valuable our four-legged partners are! These dogs are not only our best friends, but they embody what’s best about us—the courage, loyalty and heart of true warriors!
Please take a moment to help spread the word about #K9VeteransDay and our four-legged heroes.
