19 Days: NY Times Holds Tara Reade’s Sexual Assault Charges Against Joe Biden

The New York Times waited 19 days after the new broke elsewhere before reporting on sexual assault allegations by Tara Reade against Joe Biden. While the encounter dates back to 1993, the Times’ previous coverage of ultimately-unfounded and old charges against Brett Kavanaugh broke much more quickly. Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet says they just wanted to get the story right, let readers make their own judgments.

Narrator: And Ben Smith will shortly be looking for a new job.

Other idea: This editor of the former newspaper known as the NYT wants to be able to cut Joe’s legs out so that there is a brokered convention. And this is the safe in-house interview that will now allow the NYT to publish the next piece that states “if this is true, joe needs to step down”

Question:
Do you think that when (and if) Donald Trump is reelected, at this point they will stop – cause they should know that it is useless?
Or maybe it is bigger than what they can handle?

(I am referring to the partisan nature of these newspapers)

And as @iowahawkblog liked to say during the Obama years, “It’s the media’s job to cover every scandal. With a pillow. Until it stops moving.”

I note that while the video’s description states “sexual assault,” the discussion in the video is about “sexual harassment.” This is another great example of how the Left wins by dumbing down language and moving the goalposts. The allegations by Reade aren’t of harassment. She is alleging RAPE. Clinical details follow:
She alleges that, against her will, he penetrated her with his finger up against a wall .
The Times went even further in making it sound mild, calling it merely “sexual misconduct.”

I have no opinion on whether her allegations are credible, but of course there is a double standard compared to how the Left treated Kavanaugh and Thomas. Certainly we heard the terms “rape” and “rapist” in the press quite a bit when those hearings were happening.

But I despise the replacement of the term “rape” with “sexual assault.” The latter is not only much less powerful, but it gets conflated with the term “sexual harassment.” Even here. The only time you said “rape” was when you were quoting the press about the allegations against Kavanaugh. Did you use the term “sexual assault” at all, or only “sexual harassment” regarding the Biden allegations? I missed it if you did.

(N.B. I’m not accusing anyone of verbal misconduct here. Not upset or offended with anyone but the Leftist media.)

well put, Laura. Reminds of a Carlin routine about about language. How Shell Shock became Battle fatigue became Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome to PTSD.
The language has been neutered so as not to offend Karen’s sensibilities.
