24th January, 1965

56 years ago today, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill, twice Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, died at the age on 90. He died in the early hours at his London home and his death was announced at 08.35. His funeral was at St Paul’s Cathedral six days later, he remains one of only a handful of Britons outside the royal family to have received a full state funeral.

Immediately after being informed of his death H.M. The Queen sent a letter of condolence to Churchill’s widow.

“The whole world is the poorer by the loss of his many-sided genius while the survival of this country and the sister nations of the Commonwealth, in the face of the greatest danger that has ever threatened them, will be a perpetual memorial to his leadership, his vision and indomitable courage.”

In 2002 he easily won a poll for the Greatest Ever Briton. He is also a symbol of continuity. He was our Queen’s first Prime Minister when she ascended the Throne in 1952. When he first became a Member of Parliament in 1900 the Queen was Victoria. She became Queen in 1837. Think of it, three overlapping careers taking us back to 1837.

Churchill’s leadership during the Second World War has made him not only an enduring symbol of Britain, and of her stubborn resistance to National Socialist tyranny, but of the fight for Freedom everywhere. His close cooperation with America during the war, and the fact that he was a British son of an American mother, also makes him a potent symbol of Anglo-American friendship.

It is then perhaps more disappointing than surprising that his image has been once again deliberately removed from the White House. I for one expected nothing better from Biden. Removing Churchill is not just a message to the UK, it is a message to the USA and the world, and it says much, much more about Biden and his crew than it says about Churchill.

I agree with all the characterization at the front.

The removal looks natural — C is the prototype of what you’d call anti-politician. IIRC on the tail of WW2 he had a choice to win the war or win the election. And he went full speed into the former. And days after the victory the “wise” britons voted him out of power granting it to the next moron of a true politician.
And one pretty similar to the current ruler in the WH too. Who probably no longer have enough brain cells to recognise the connections but enough goons around can alright.

Thanks for sharing… the pomp and circumstance was magnificent and deserved to honour this amazing individual…
I didn’t know about the Biden/IRA connection and assumed an automatic Obummer retread… they seem to be in good company with Ayers et al…

Yup, she’s Britain’s longest reigning monarch and fourth longest in the world. By mid 2022 she’ll be the second longest, passing Joahn II Prince of Lichtenstein and Rama IX of Thailand. If she makes her 98th birtrhday in April 2024 she’ll pass Louis XIV of France (1643-1715).

At the risk of repeating myself (because I am repeating myself), this is the product of thoughtlessness on Biden’s part. Trump restored the bust display. Trump is bad. The bust must be hidden away again. QED. Everything Trump did, sensible or no, must be undone without regard to whether it is wise to do so.

I think you’re being kind. Biden’s loathing of Britain has little to do with Trump.

Where does it spring from then? (I don’t know enough about Biden to know). He does like to plagiarize them now and again…

Obama had also removed the bust. Since everything Biden does seems to be a retread of the Obama administration, I think that might have something to do with it.

Now I remember why this Churchill Bust story ran a bell.

It was a small petty thing that presaged 8 years of smallness and pettiness.

Biden in 2017 with Gerry Adams and Rita O’Hare.
Adams was a senior IRA officer when they carried out 22 bombings in Belfast city centre one Friday evening in 1974. 11 people were killed, many of them had to be gathered up in plastic bags. Rita O’Hare is still wanted for her attempted murder of an army officer in 1971.
He’s the worst sort of pre-9/11 plastic-“Irishman”

Biden seems to loathe pretty much everything, except for China, MIC, and destroying his country. 🙁
