Since we have both gamers and emphatic non-gamers on this site, I thought this video might be of interest to both groups:
Made me realize just how much I learned by trial-and-error as a kid–osmosis wasn’t really a possibility, as when my sister and I would spend time with friends it was usually outside, and when we did play games with them they usually had console games, while we were purely PC. (Best of Microsoft Entertainment Pack all the way! Also, Windows 95 had some pretty fun game demos. Hellbender, man–still have the Iowah second level map memorized from playing it so often.)
What I find interesting about that is that I’m still purely PC and have a very hard time with any games designed to be played with a controller. Even though I’ve spent a bit of time deliberately trying to get more comfortable with that mode of playing, the muscle memory still isn’t there. It really does feel a bit like trying to learn a new language with a different grammatical structure.
Anyone here pick up gaming later in life? Or wanted to, but got stymied by the game controls/internal logic?
