My Review of “1917”

If  you haven’t heard of it yet, 1917 is a World War I movie currently playing in theaters. It runs about two hours, and has an R rating, although for what I would call the right reasons. It depicts the reality of trench warfare, which means it has some graphic imagery and swearing, and for that it earned its rating. The movie has gained some notoriety for its unorthodox filming style: from the perspective of the audience, there are no jump cuts. You follow the characters through the whole movie, for every second, without missing a moment of what they experience.

To put my view of it simply, I highly recommend 1917. It is quite possibly the best movie I have ever seen, and certainly it makes the top 3. Without a doubt it is the most realistic movie I’ve ever seen. The plot, characters, and cinematography are extremely believable. I’m not really sure what to say about, because you really have to see it to understand how good it is. My advice is to go into it knowing as little as possible, because I think that will add to the experience. If you are able and can stomach the graphic imagery (and I can’t stomach much), go see this movie. You will not regret it and it will make you understand World War I in a way no textbook can even come close to.
