He has a BS and MS in Physics, and still has his textbooks on nuclear power reactor physics and high energy particle physics. He never built the shelter. That told me all I needed to know about how useful one would be in an actual attack. Fortunately soon after I started understanding the radio and tv news, Reagan won and the Suck ended.
