If you haven’t yet, read this. I’ve been quasi-defending masks from the beginning, but I’ve been getting more and more skeptical as I look at the data.
It’s more anecdotal outside of this area, but I’ve been looking closely at data from my county, and I don’t think it’s likely the masks stop a damned thing. Positivity rates did not go down after the mask mandate, plus we had a big surge at the beginning of the semester in this college town when we imported a bunch of students from all over the country to live in dormitories and greek houses in close proximity with each other. And yes, they were subject to the mask mandate. One of Trump’s CV task force advisors , Dr Scott Atlas tweeted this out, and Twitter blocked it. It is, to say the least, a VERY interesting article.

The image I’m posting is from my spreadsheet from my county. The mask mandate went into effect July 10.
You MAY note an immediate decrease in number of the five day average of new cases per day. But it would take at least a week to see the effect on new cases per day, plus — new cases per day is screwed up because it’s a count of the day the test results were REPORTED, not the date the tests were given, so to some extent it is artificial (subject to varying processing times from different labs) AND there is a lag. There is no way the effect could have been that immediate. In other words, new cases per day was already dropping the day the mask order went into effect, and the positivity rate was virtually unchanged. We have HEAVY compliance in this liberal town.

Wow, it’s a long read but an important one. Thaks for posting this. That author needs to come up with a shortened version for people who need to see this but don’t take the time to do so. I posted it to Facebook; we’ll see if it gets blocked! I plan to send this to our Texas state rep and senator to ask Gov. Abbott to back off of the universal mask mandates!
Wow, that article is exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! It’s gonna take some time to process. In the first pass, I saw nothing with which I would disagree.
What I glean from this article is that face masks are not merely useless, they can be down right dangerous. Thank you for posting this.
This is precisely the kind of information that everyone with an agenda will ignore. Nearly the entire Left, of course, but anyone with an agenda.
Phil – I had just read this (got the link at AOShq) and was going to post it here, but you beat me to it. Thanks for posting it.
Some good knowledge in this article.
I have never supported the mandated usage of masks. That has always smacked of useless virtue signaling intended to subvert individual liberty and increase the power of select individuals. It is interesting to see the data in countries like Sweden bear out my position:

and actual mask demonstrations with vaping aerosols:

Hawaii experienced a rise in cases similar to most other states 2 months after implementing their mask order. Search for Hawaii’s mask order and then look at https://covidtracking.com/data/state/hawaii. Masks make people feel like they are doing something.
A virus is measured in angstroms and holes in masks are measured in tenths of millimeters. How in the hell will such a large hole prevent the passage of such small particles. It can’t. If the holes were small enough to prevent the passage of viruses, you could not breath through them. Unfortunately, that is just about the case for actual masks. It makes breathing much much harder than it should be.
A mask is a politically correct virtue signaling device that says you are bowing to the dictates of a wannabe dictator and has absolutely NOTHING to do with protecting you or anyone else from the covid-19 virus.
Now I wear a mask into private property for which the owner insists I wear a mask. That is his right. It is also my right NOT to visit such scientifically incompetent places when it is my choice not to visit them. Otherwise, it is my considered opinion that masks are totally and completely worthless for their totally imaginary purpose of protecting anyone from anything.
I guess it didn’t attach the image. I guess you’ll have to trust me on what it showed, because I apparently can’t add an image to a comment, and it doesn’t look like I can edit the post.
At the bottom right of the comment entry box, there’s a small link you can click to add an image to a comment. On mobile, it looks like a stacked bunch of short lines.
You can also do this.
