I was thinking … it hurts it hurts!! …. that we should perhaps suggest that this site need to be a forum rather than a blog.
Without wishing to add work to the BW team, perhaps a forum would provide a mechanism for the BW team to tap into the ‘hive mind’. If one of the team wanted arguments for or against a proposition for example, he could create a thread and we, the great unwashed, can throw ideas in and created a proposal. The blog format does not lend itself to that sort of collaborative effort.
I believe there is a will but untapped resource available to BW …. build it and they will come … they will come Bill …. they will come.
Thoughts?

I’m trying to create as forum-like a structure as possible within Signal, which my MB2A group is using for secure communications. It’s difficult, though, because Signal has no structure for such things. There are individual and group chats, all at the same level, and that’s it. I’m imposing pseudo-structure by naming the groups accordingly: MB2A, MB2A.General, MB2A.Rules, etc.
Now, our group requires secure comms and Signal is the best for that. We used Keybase for a few days, then I learned that Keybase had been acquired by Zoom, which is known to send data to the Chinese government. I looked for a replacement – Keybase has a really nice hierarchical group setup – but nothing other than Signal meets our security requirements, and a number of them are just functionally bad even if they were more secure.
So our group won’t be joining any unsecure system for our “business” discussions and decisions. It’s not that we’re going to be doing anything illegal or violent (our rules specifically state that), it’s that we don’t want our planning and operations open to view or hacking.
good to hear the security side is well taken care of. Let me know if I can be of any assistance in your efforts. Being in the UK, I am not sure how much help I can be, but if you think of anything.
Send me a PM. When I try to get to your profile to send, I keep getting redirected back to the site’s home page.
Absolutely! The forum format works great for people hashing ideas and adding their 2 cents! Even stupid sounding ideas could have merit when looked at by all the members. I’ve been on a Jeep forum for over 10 years and I’m friends with people from all over the world.
I feel the same way and just posted about my frustration at not being able to collaborate better. I think forums are a great idea to be able to have threads on specific topics. I do find the blog process of distributing and getting info a bit clunky. If enough of us use the contact form an suggest it maybe they will try to comply in some manner?
The thing I have in my head is more like the reddit/imgur crowd-sourced voting model, so content can self-segregate by topic and type and users can naturally gravitate toward media they like.
Touay, if you (or anyone else, dear reader) can help me build it or want to influence the direction, now’s the time to reach out.
Great to hear things are in the works.
I guess I thought ‘forum’ because I am an old fart and they are what I am used to. I have built a couple of ‘off the shelf’ forums, but it has been a while … a looong while! And I never really got much into the sql side of things.
I am willing to assist, but don’t know how much help I can really be.
p.s. if you are responsible for the site running faster .. good job!
Guilty as charged, if aided and abetted.
Yes, thanks!
I’m fairly technical although maybe not quite as technical as you’re looking for since I mostly deal with WordPress. However I’d love to be involved. I know I’m new but…/
I would not be surprised if we could use your particular talents. DM’d!
Welcome Gwen, we’re all new!
Yes. I think a forum style would work. I know I have missed important posts, especially the comments.
Good idea.
