Guys,
I know it doesn’t look like much, but there’s a lot happening under the hood of the ol’ Canned Ham.
You can help. What we need right now is engineers in one (or, ideally, ALL) of the following: LAMP Stack, WordPress, Magento 2, FE-JS Frameworks Vue2/React. If you know something else (python/django, anyone? How about Swift, Java, or C#?) and you just want to pop into a private slack and tell us how bad our ideas are, there might be a place for you, too.
Now’s the time.
Reach out to me.

Need a disgruntled team member? I can type with only my index fingers while looking at the keyboard, so I’m not good at that stuff. But I can complain about just about anything. Every team has that guy, so I’ll offer my services.
Hey Scott Ott, The website is working so much faster now. Thanks to you and the team for getting things sorted out. Much respect…
There is a Post I am very glad I cannot Post (some advice from Al Swearengen abotu the times we find ourselves in).
But putting up a Post seems blocked.
When I type there, it comes up in a smaller font and in Bold for some strange reason.
Thanks for your help and hard work, Chris! There has been a notable positive difference with the site experience:)
BTW, when I click on Chris Jefferies to send a PM, it directs me to the home page, as though you are a sysop.
I sent a note to Chris about this, asking him to post a comment here so his name will link to his profile page. Meanwhile, I’ll try to figure out why the byline doesn’t. Thanks, David.
BTW, I just discovered that in Safari, his byline DOES go to his profile page, but not in Chrome. The blog post form is also failing in Chrome, but works in Safari and Edge. I’ve sent a note to the developers of the form plugin to see if they have a solution for that. Meanwhile, you might try an alternative browser. Sorry.
Odd. I use Brave, which is based on Chromium, the same codebase that Chrome uses, and I have no trouble now with creating posts. I don’t think Brave does anything that touches form display or submission, but I’ve never looked at their code so I can’t be sure.
Thanks for the intel.
In fairness, I am a psyop.
Well a psyop is a totally different beast than a sysop. The latter is an IT god, and the former is the Babylon 5 equivalent of the KGB. 🙂
I’ve done some Java and currently do some C#. Let me know if I can help.
I think I just got smarter reading this and the replies!
I’m basically clueless about this stuff, but I want to say-I’m glad you all are on the team!!
ditto
I’m a PHP/SQL/js type of guy and presently manage, in retirement, software/web portals/databases I created for managing the auditing and resulting inventory for a large IT recycler. In other words, I created my own retirement side income I earn from the house sitting on my butt for a change. I started with FORTRAN and slide rules while studying mechanical engineering back in the ’70s. Later in life, I had boys and boys like computer games. I did too, but I liked modding them more. You need to learn good old fashion C to do this. Once one learns C’s basics, learning the rest of the computer languages is easy if you have the knack. From these ramblings, one can see I’m an old fart, but a clever one. I don’t know what use I can be, but I’m here if you need me. My specialty is storytelling around the coffee pot. Nowadays, I guess it would be the “virtual” coffee pot.
Hello Chris, I just joined, but have been a fan for awhile. I would like to contribute anyway I can. I am a jack of all traded and a master of few. I am currently working as a network administrator. I can help with Active Directory and SCCM if you would have need of that. I have setup a few LAMP Stacks but it was abit armature hour. Would need to do some research on how to properly secure it. I have programed a few internal web pages in python. I have some pretty good SQL knowledge and could help with that. I know a bit about switchs and managing virtual machines. My communications skills are a bit lacking, but I am sure we work past that. I am very good at Photoshop and 3DSMAX I have been working in those 2 application for at least 15 years. I can create models of just about any complexity and texture them. I have done some rigging and animation but not very efficient at that aspect of it. I could help with art for web pages. Create original artwork and help clean up or crop/cut out images. I would be willing to help nights and weekends. Bill was spot on about us being asleep at the wheel to paraphase and now we let the left get to much power. I could not run for office or help much financially but I would love to help the cause. Sorry for the wall of text.
Hey Chris. I’d like to pitch in if I can. I’m currently learning Python and Django for work (early days) but I have a degree in Computer Science (it’s old like me) so I know the basics. I currently do data warehouse and reporting work.
I’m about halfway through a Python course myself, and angling toward Django…just for fun.
I’m talking to “the Scott Ott”, it’s an honor. Have you worked with any other languages? I used C for the first 6 or 7 years of adult life then slid into database work.
I don’t know any other programming languages, Gerard, although I have managed to cobble together snippets to make things work over the years. Last year, I started using a low-code/no-code Microsoft product called PowerApps, and was able to create three apps that we deployed at my other work place and are now in use by hundreds of people daily. That got me interested in delving deeper.
I’m no expert but I’ve taken C/C++ courses and do a lot of Python coding in my off time. Might be of use to you.
sorry all i know is cnc programming, but if bill wants a cool scale model of his spaceships send me the 3d model
Yes!!!!
at the shop we made a tesla model s for a customer demonstartion, and an iron man mask
I read “Magento 2” and thought “that has to be a typo … the cooler name is Magneto 2”.
Magneto 2: The Clonening.
I just had to add – you are all hopeless geeks. That makes you MY PEOPLE. 😀
