This week’s pre-production meeting among the men of Right Angle dives deep into Constitutional history — or perhaps into an old flooded quarry. If this is your first Backstage show, we apologize in advance.

Back lash, lash, front lash? Anybody remember Lash Larue?
A preposition is a word you must not end a sentence with.
I loved sentence diagramming in the 7th grade, with Miss Odbert. I was an odd and difficult child that calmed me down.
Can’t watch Wandavision…It’s Disney
I should have watched this first (Or rather listened to it first).
I commented on the Crazy Years saying that “If This Goes On” is what we are living in now – as you fear in this segment…
And… I also read History but – it is sci fi; fictional history; alternative history; etc., that gives me context in terms of actual history.
Reading Paul Johnson’s “The Birth of the Modern: World Society 1815-1830” (which took me several years… too much to absorb) or Manchester’s “A World Lit Only By Fire” are works where “truth is stranger than fiction.”I suspect without the plethora of fiction I have read, I would not have been able to appreciate history as much as I do…
I would build on Scott’s comments on political discourse. I would say that taking the p*** out of weeny Dems is not only an acceptable thing to do at the moment, it is the smart, necessary and kind thing to do.
One of the reasons that wokery has got so out of hand is that the right and centre have been way too polite and have not mocked the ludicrous ideas nearly cuttingly, or frequently enough.
I know in my own life mickey taking has been vital. It does two important things. Firstly, it allows the one doing the mocking to express their furstration at the actions or opinions or traits that they are mocking, which helps prevent that frustration becoming resentment. Secondly, it acts as a social signal to the one being mocked. I think the woke left has been largely bereft of this vital mechanism.
To be fair, the wokists are themsleves largely to blame for this, but bot entirely. It is our duty to mercilessly mock them, for their own good.
Good afternoon, Scott ( a few days late). Thank you for bringing back memories of my college days. We used many towels, back then! š
So Scott won’t read fiction but he watches Wandavision and likes it a lot. I’m sure he doesn’t see the incongruity there.
I’ve seen this kind of thing before. I knew a guy that wouldn’t pick up a fiction book for love nor money but absolutely went ape over movies.
I think this is due to something in their makeup that doesn’t see books as entertainment. To me, a book is as good as a movie and often more so. I read books for entertainment and education, I watch movies, TV and videos for the same purpose. It’s funny that not everyone is like that but then there are some people that won’t pick up a book for any reason and others who never watch popular media in any form — So I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round.
Alternate Theory: I watch movies and TV shows with my lovely bride. I read books alone. If I watched TV alone, it would be mostly documentaries. I’m just that exciting.
Interesting … In all my life I’ve never run across a dichotomy like that — A selection bias for fictional entertainment only with company, non-fiction in the absence of companionship.
So clearly for you, uninfluenced by the presence of another, entertainment and education are synonymous and potentiate each other, but the appreciation of fiction is best served when it has a social component?
Obviously from what you said in this video you do enjoy fiction and it’s not just that watching TV or a movie provides time to spend with your wife though I’m sure that’s a significant factor too. It would seem that for you, fiction is most rewarding when shared and when sharing is not possible (two people reading the same book at the same time is a bit awkward) you will default to a marked preference to non-fiction.
That’s cool, I’m not being critical and there’s no reason why you should not do that if that’s what you prefer. It’s fun to examine how other people see things and that’s all I’m doing here.
You may not be “very exiting” and I submit that’s a wholly subjective point of view, but you’re certainly an interesting person, Mr. Scott Ott.
Now … see … That was news to me. THIS is why I like to watch these backstage shows so much. I learn something new every single time. I swear I absolutely, positively did not know that we even had any friends at Al Jazeera … Until Scott said so.
š
I can now hear my father’s frequent correction, “James and me went to the store?” Thanks for the reminder. What really drove him up the wall was the redundancy of “The first attendee, Mr. Madison, HE took the front row seat.” Pretty much can’t get through an article or news report these days without finding that one. Though he also taught us to turn the sentence around to determine proper subject and object, what’s probably forever lost is “It is I.” (Me am it?)
This is quickly becoming my favorite of your shows. I like the exclusivity, but it’s the more unscripted factor that I like most. Of course, as you may recall, I don’t watch anything via BlueTube…so forgive me, because I have to rip it to watch it.
For Scott…so far, I’ve been liking WandaVision. Marvel isn’t like the typical Hollow-wood clan. They buck the system regularly.
When did “Qatar” (Kah-tar) become “Cutter”? And why? And…WTF?!
When did Peking become Beijing?
It sounds more like a nod to how the locals pronounce it that a return to the name used in a recorded history, like maybe even Myanmar or even Kampuchea.
Personally, if the latitudes and longitudes change I look deeper in. That means border changes, maybe conquests.
If you decided you wanted to be called LeMai with the “i” sound rather than LeMay, with the “a” sound, but otherwise were as agreeable a person, I would go along with it.
Wandavision..good..except it’s Disney+ And after last week’s cleaving of Gina Carano Disney+ can go pound sand.
Jane and I?
Jane and me?
I suppose you would have to ask Jane if she’d be annoyed if it wasn’t Jane I went to the movies with. At that point I am concerned how to speak that phrase.
Sometimes. me just no care about Proper Grammar.
But when Voyager comes back with that Hot Bald Lady?
Yowza!
Better Save the Whales, just in case.
WandaVision sounds like a new way to use the tired reboots, sequels, and nostalgia to give fan service to viewers. Much like they did in The Mandalorian.
After hooking the fans who crave the old days of characters with substance, who’ve been through failures and trials, but never quit, Disney craps on the very people supporting said shows with demeaning SJW tweets by top exec’s, firing main characters who don’t “comply” with their politics, and generally letting fans know just how much they loathe them.
They loathe them because they hate portraying those “hero” characters in their shows/movies, but know that’s what brings in the $$$. They’ve realized their SJW crap offerings go nowhere, but simply cannot help but sabotage their own money-making creations for virtue signaling points.
Another example of companies allowing their employees to run the company.
I saw the first 15 minutes of this new CW show about Superman raising two boys.
They give away the whole season’s worth of stories within that first 15 minutes. AND they get as SJW and Woke as Supergirl has become.
After that was a “Special” where the actors talk about the show like they were all Robert Deniro explaining a film (without the very satisfying ending to that Itchy & Scratchy show where Quentin Tarantino comes out to explain the episode is and is killed by both Itchy & Scratchy for being tedious).
I don’t know which is more annoying.
I miss Soap Operas. So dopey but also by design.
My wife watched that “Superman” thing last night. I have not been interested in anything aired on CW since the abomination called Arrow, which started as an interesting series and quickly became as tedious as Tarantino’s Itchy and Scratchy commentaries.
I also liked Arrow at the beginning before the overly contrived “twists & turns” took over like a desperate attempt to be edgy or something.
Perhaps the writers/creators didn’t have a whole series of a story to begin with.
I liked the first two seasons of The Mandalorian. The second was better than the first.
I fear that the third will be the pint of decline.
I agree and like the show. š
The season 2 finale where the return of Luke Skywalker made live reviewers shed a tear because their hero was back, was the episode where a top exec made fun of those who got misty eyed and then they fired Gina C.
I suspect it will go downhill, just like all their planned Mandalorian spin-offs.
I decided I wouldn’t watch it anymore. Not give any money to a company that begrudgingly gives obvious fan service as they mock their fans for being all that they loathe.
The mysterious Mando (true hero/protector) and the adorable Grogu “baby Yoda” (heartstring puller) on misadventures (danger, action, suspense) was about all the show had going for it (fan service aside). Mando is no longer mysterious and baby yoda is gone.
The Ahsoka Tano and Bo Katan characters aren’t strong enough for their own show. I’d place my money on Boba Fett &Co.
They fired their strongest female (Cara Dune), but Boba’s sidekick (Fennec Shand) is 2nd most badass. (JMO)
Reminds me of the meme for gun-owners and Sig: “Because they hate you.”
The Democrat Party leadership and many members are anathema to American principles and values to the point of being a collection of terrorists. There is NO compromise with such fools, so mockery is the only peaceful option remaining. If mockery is removed from our political toolbox, then violence is the only recourse. Do you want that?
The last recourse was supposed to be the Judicial system using the US Constitution. Now the DOJ/Supreme Court has clearly failed us and joined the corrupt-a-hood party line.
Your point brings back the old modified adage, “Sticks and stones may hurt their bones but our words will never stop them.”
The last peaceful recourse was supposed to be SCOTUS, but they have chosen to collect the salary and be derelict. Except Thomas.
The operative word here is “was.” At least the mockery highlights the absurdity of the leftist fools whether it is heeded or not. The final redress will not be peaceful.

… so … intentional typographical humor is out of bounds? Interesting.
It matters not. I cannot edit it now even if I was so inclined.
Apparently intentional? typographical humor is out of bounds as is evident in your response.
Maybe you are just triggered.
Nope. Trigger was a horse, and I guarantee that I’ve never been “Triggered”.
This is just me and my memory at work here but …
In, I think, the first chapter of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, Tom Joad hitches a ride in the cab of a truck.
The driver regales him with a scatalogical poem poem about an … African-American … that features the word Trigger and refers to an elephant.
More recently, a statue of an elephant on the grounds of the UN here in NYC had to have shrubbery planted around it because it was shockingly life-like.
I could add a half a page of meanings for that word, “trigger” to the Oxford Old Englush Unabridged Dictionary.
You, your, you’re – the easiest spelling mistake anyone who is typing fast can make.
I hold to the read the sentence first, then ascertain the context, then the meaning, then don’t get all Pissy-Faced about the spelling error philosophy.
Then again, I tend to make more spelling errors when I type onto the Interwebs. Anything I get to do too fast I make more mistakes doing.
I guess I understand what it is to be a human being.
Does that mean David is pissy faced?

In my estimation, the 3 best American Sci-fi writers are Asimov, Bradbury, and Heinlein. Heinlein had the most refreshing societal ideas in a time when things were starting to become authoritarian. I would have been one of his group in a heartbeat.
Is that an adjective or an adverb?
I got to Thor: Ragnarok and just stopped caring about Marvel. *shrug*
Iām watching The Expanse. Itās pretty good though it does venture too far into Soap Opera by the 3rd season. And the hard science of the 1st season is getting supplemented by magic. Also, pacing is an issue.
Pacing is most definitely an issue in this current season. They could have easily covered everything in the first three episodes that they have taken seven to do. We should all be glad it doesn’t take this long to pull a tooth.
“to pull a tooth”
Now I see someone slamming a door with a string connecting the doorknob and to some poor soul nearby.
Is that Steve Martin slamming the door?
Iām still working on the interest to watch S5.
Scott, Shakespeare was an amazing writer and all but never forget, he was mostly writing for the cheep seats down front. The Brits in Olivierās era made that mistake, turning Shakespeare into a stilted, presentational and nearly unwatchable affaire.
I liked diagramming sentences. Then again, I like math. But I go by Bills rule of determining me vs i.
I donāt have any friends so I donāt have anyone to tell.
Iām kinda Scott in that respect. I used to plow through books. And they were almost all history. Iāve read all of Robert Masseyās giant tomes. But then I discovered Paradoxās Grand Strategies. Now Iām like, sure, I could be reading about McCarthy but Romeās not gonna ādelende estā Carthage on itās own.
Seriously!
It’s 7 am on Thursday morning – thank you for my first chuckle of the dayš
Songs of a Distant Earth. Is that Heinlein or Clarke
Clarke: Short story & novel.
I’ve found, in my adult life, that I can’t go a week w/o getting into a situation where I have to diagram a sentence.
I thought those two probes should have been called Motive and Opportunity.
Joe’s SotU should be both short and a laugh riot.
I’m only a few hours south of Scott. This week I’m in shorts, a light t-shirt w/ all the doors and windows open to air out the house.
Aww… only 39min. 8^(
Did you see Biden accidently say the “N” word? Best gaffe yet.
Doh!
People are making too much of this. It was a stammer over a word, and it wasn’t even a clear enunciation of the word. It was a sound that sounded like a word people want it to be.
Aljazeera making a Conservative Network lends a whole new meaning to Right Wing Extremism…
Mars, Heinlein, Constitution, Guns, Individualism and WandaVision what’s not to like? I come here for some sanity in a sea made up of the insane thanks for the break.
I come here for the cool music.
I know! Bill has the greatest PTS (personal theme song). I am soo jealous!
I wanna theme song! Or even just Walk-On music…
