If people like the Basecamp CEO who caved to the woke mob can’t figure this out, someone needs to goddamn put me in charge. This is not a hard problem.
Why the hell are people with the power to do something running around wondering what they should do? I’d march right into Basecamp and fire them all again. They could bitch and moan all they wanted, but they’d be doing it on the sidewalk (ever see Morgan Freeman in “Lean on Me”?). People should watch it. Portrays Joe Clark, a principal who cleaned up an inner city high school full of drugs and violence.
I GUARANTEE THAT THE REST OF THE EMPLOYEES AT BASECAMP ARE ***STARVING*** FOR A STRONG LEADER. THEY WANT THEIR OWN VERSION OF TRUMP!!!
Someone needs to remind the CEO that he’s the one who signs their paychecks, and if they don’t like it, too effing bad. Go work for someone else or start your own “woke” company. You are EXPENDABLE. Paraphrasing Bill Cosby, I brought you into this company, and I can take you out. Neither my checkbook nor my backers give one good goddamn what you think about politics. You’re here to produce, and if you can’t do that, I’ll find someone who will. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I’d throw their sh/t in the street.
And if that’s too “harsh” for Alonzo, then too bad for him too. I love you brother, but we don’t have the luxury of time or wondering if Republicans might say the wrong thing. That’s the whole problem. Instead of telling these morons that one slip of the tongue doesn’t define our entire lives, we let them take one little thing and blow it up to characterize our entire existence. President Trump doesn’t do it. Marjorie Taylor-Greene doesn’t do it. Matt Gaetz doesn’t do it. We shouldn’t do it either. Stop worrying about what overly critical, nitpicking FAKE NEWS LIARS are going to say. We’ve TRIED playing nice with the Democrats. If it worked, Romney would have won in 2012. I’ve got news for you ‘Zo. They’re going to criticize us no matter what we say.
The biggest problem is with participation trophies and time outs and “don’t hit Jimmy” b.s., the millenials were raised as a bunch of wussies. No effing way would I or any other member of Gen X and above that I know put up with this garbage from the employees at Basecamp if we were in charge. Not a chance on God’s green earth.
These children like BLM or whatever SJW du jour are pissing and moaning over nothing, and it’s about time people told them to pound sand. Ron DeSantis just did that by passing his anti-rioting law and telling them don’t bring that crap to Florida or else the consequences will be swift and severe so as to ensure it never happens again.
Many millions of people don’t speak up for fear of losing their job. That’s why it’s important for us who can afford to speak up do so and why this limpwristed cuck of a CEO at Basecamp blew a golden opportunity.
This is simply Ralphie in “Christmas Story” standing up to Scott Farkas, finally getting so mad that he beats the snot out of him until Farkas is crying.
It’s also Clint Eastwood entering the barracks for the first time in “Heartbreak Ridge” and laying down the law with the platoon he was charged with whipping into shape.

THIS IS NOT ROCKET SURGERY!!! At a certain point, you have to stop caring about the political fallout and go kick the bully’s ass.
C’mon man!

How to Deal with Cry-Bullies: Standing Up to the ‘Woke’ Mob as the Only Path Forward

To me it’s not clear who is the bully in the situation.
If my employer would come out with a policy of “no talk politics” (or a dress code or a other arbitrary changes that look unrelated to work itself and were not part of the environment I joined) — I would also be loud expressing my disagreement. And would consider leaving. For realz.
I certainly do agree that the boss has a say in this, and plenty of other matters. And is entitled to give whatever orders. Also is entitled to fire me. Meanwhile I also am entitled to fire my boss. And I did that a few times in my life. When he lost my support by giving orders I am not happy to carry out.
If I and the other folks involved in talking managed to do our work in the desired amount and quality, why the boss want to mess with what else we do?
And if we fall short, that is the part he supposed to address, instead of picking elements he just dislikes.
Freedom of speech and expression of opinion is a value. And while the constitution only binds the congress to not suppress it, private companies should not suppress it in a gratuitous way.
In this particular case, they were just eliminating political discussion on the corporate message board or whatever they had set up. He basically said just as you indicate. They were there to work and not to talk politics on company time. I didn’t get the sense that he was trying to tell people what they could or could not talk about while on lunch hour or doing productive tasks not precluded from completion due to conversation. If you’re digging a ditch with someone, conversation isn’t necessarily going to slow you down (depending on the challenge).
They only people who seemed upset were the ones upset that the company wasn’t going to take stands on social justice causes. As I said, they can start their own “woke” companies and do that all they like.
Here. Judge for yourself. I think he needs to grow a pair and stand up to his employees. https://www.theregister.com/2021/05/05/basecamp_political_discussion_apology/
Uh, this description smells like a fish market. Sure, what they write probably happened to some degree, but I’m sure it’s 1% of the forces and the other 99% was in effect for a long time.
Some of the characterization is obviously BS. What we call “walkout” looks like people resign, work off the mandatory X weeks for the regular salary and lose every benefit that comes with that form of leaving. The employer may agree to just let them go next day with empty pockets.
Instead, we have “Basecamp offered to buyout employees who wished to leave. Workers with more than three years of tenure were offered six months’ salary, while those who had worked at the company for less than three years were offered three months.” That is the formula used at /layoffs/.
So until I read something else, I just assume that is what really happened there and the rest is just painting over it.
What they write about policy change is IMHO on a reasonable vector but quite stupid execution. To say the least.
If the work account is still fine to use for work and only a few people piss in the pool, you don’t create a general policy at all, just approach the folks individually.
If it is mingled bigtime, and you are smart enough to only mess with the medium, not the ability to converse (as expressed in the declaration here), you absolutely don’t want to send your workers to external sites, especially the mainstream cesspool. You want to keep them in-house as much as possible. So you just create an off-topic discussion group on the existing account and direct the discussion there. Meanwhile address the productivity issues by all the usual means.
So, if we just swallow this description, the ceo dropped the ball. But I would not rely on that too much. More likely there was reorganisation and regrouping for business and other reasons, and something similar was bound to happen.
Finally, reading the page linked as “public apology” — I would not call that apology in any practical sense. It informs the clients that the captain is at the helm, life goes on and the pieces will fall into place soon. Nothing to see here, business as usual.
Absolutely agree with every word you said. Stand tough, don’t give in or an inch, say what you mean and mean what you say. All it takes is a backbone and an attitude of f-you, m-f – I’ve given you all the f’n chances you’re gonna get. Now go ahead, make my day.
I know right?! What the heck is these people’s problem?! I can understand employees not speaking up for fear of firing, but company owners? Maybe conservative CEO’s don’t have the problem as they already tell the wokeristas to screw off? Maybe they just don’t hire employees that might give them a problem? Maybe they just saw the trend in corporate America and left a while back (I think a LOT of younger people have already done this in favor of pursuing their own ventures).
Maybe there just aren’t enough people left in corporate America with the balls to fight.
I think people like you and me would make a lot of money doing one of two things:
1) speaking up and otherwise giving a voice to those employees too afraid to speak for themselves, possibly by secret ballot
2) acting as the PR firm for companies who want to come out as “unwoke” and embrace the American ideal laid out by MLK, Jr. while rejecting judging people based on the color of their skin. I think a lot just don’t want the negative press and don’t otherwise know what to do.
We could also connect unwoke companies by polling the management on the sly and having them do business with each other until they’re ready to come out of the woke closet.
If we successfully transitioned one company from woke to unwoke, we’d make a mint. The majority of employees and managers don’t want this crap. Even teachers don’t want to teach the critical race theory garbage, but that’s a horse of a slightly different color in terms of a solution.
Jeremy, your posts are full of fire and enthusiasm, good ideas, novel approaches, and to add the cherry on top you write well, and no doubt are a persuasive speaker and fierce debater. I love to read your posts; they fire me up and make me want to do just as you suggest – get out there and proselytize like a maniac for the Right side, our side, with a vehemence that won’t allow a negative response, but if there is one knocking it on its heels with a well aimed fact, harsh truth and sarcastic punch to the gut. God save a challenger who tries to enter the ring to face your roundhouse.
I wish I had half of your vim and vigor, but my muscles are weak from underuse and my enthusiasm not so bold from years of life worn experience. But one thing for sure, I recognize spirit and strength when I see it, or in this case read it, and I can read it in you. Your passion is strong, and your enthusiasm infectious. You can influence and change minds. I really believe that.
Why thank you very much Lynda. So nice of you to say. You’re making me blush!
You’re not such a bad writer yourself, and the pen is mightier than the sword which makes your contributions quite valuable.
Nice to hear that my passion comes across. I think it comes from knowing that these leftists are an existential threat to the country my children will inherit and the liberal elites pushing it will leave the consequences to be borne by the fine folks in the flyover states including my relatives.
I’ve been thinking more about entering politics lately. Your post is very encouraging, so thank you sincerely very much for that.
God bless!
I wouldn’t want my heartfelt compliments to lead you astray. While we certainly need, and want, good, God-loving and fearing people like yourself in government, politics eats them for breakfast, lunch, dinner and twice a day snacks. That’s why there are so few men like you in government. On a level playing field you would be an excellent quarter back, and attract others like yourself to positions of leadership. But politics doesn’t offer a level playing field – and never has. If you don’t have a Machiavellian bent to your nature, and a Gordon Gecko thirst for power, and most importantly insider backing, but instead foist the weapons of truth, goodness and the American way against our foe, I fear the opposition will take you out.
Now, that fellow Trump…he almost had it, but hubris and ego got in his way. And think about this: you would be contending with viperish, childless women who are flocking to and getting elected into government. The swamp, a nasty filthy pit of demons if there ever is one has only gotten more so with women in politics. Exceptions? Sure. Just not enough to make a difference.
Listen to me. Ha ha – I’ve got you running for President when you probably were thinking of mayor or something. See? That’s how strong I really think you are – presidential material.
I sincerely appreciate the warnings. Believe me. Politics never entered my mind until these past few years. Without President Trump breaking through the wall constructed by the establishment thereby exposing a hole in the Washington fortress inhabited by the Swamp and their fake news and corporatist cronies, I don’t know that there would’ve been a chance for me or, say, a Marjorie Taylor-Greene or Matt Gaetz or Ted Cruz. None of them take PAC money. Neither would I. Collectively, they’re breaking the mold.
By the way, if you haven’t seen the America First kickoff rally with Gaetz and Taylor-Greene, I highly recommend it. Very encouraging…https://youtu.be/PPq3UWVKCeY
What sunk Trump’s second term was a stolen election and a corrupt establishment willing to do anything to protect itself. While I’m sure becoming president boosted his ego–and it was a major accomplishment–he could have done that while living a luxurious lifestyle and growing his businesses, enduring a lot less frustration and headache than two impeachment, the fake Mueller investigation, the fake news, etc. Instead, he donated his salary to charity to serve his country for four years doing things like taking on China that he’s been saying for decades.
And he’s not done yet.
Having said all that, I’m the same way minus the ego. As you can see, I won’t take garbage from the fake news or from the swamp. Who the hell are they to say anything about anything. Their problem is they are the ones with the massive egos. They’ve all worn buttprints in their seats and think no one will ever challenge them. While I’m sure there was a lot of backslapping in Washington after this stolen election, they continue to be exposed, and I’d continue to take it to them. I’ll go right back to the 2020 election and keep exposing their fraud. I’m the type that would show up at Schiff’s office door with a camera demanding answers. Or whomever. Just like Trump called Pelosi and Schumer to the White House to talk about an immigration deal with the cameras rolling.
News from Arizona just leaked within the past 24 hours. Seems that somebody deleted 70 gigabytes worth of information before turning over the machines to be audited. The files deleted contained adjudicated ballots, the ones containing uncertainties that the voting machine operators were required to review and judge for themselves whether to count each ballot for Trump or Biden.
And yes, the files are recoverable.
Things are about to get really interesting. Presidential material? Maybe! LOL. I can tell you this. I’ll make a fool out of anyone who tries to attack me in the media. There’s so much hypocrisy and lies to use as ammunition, it wouldn’t really be a fair fight. One enormous inconsistency that no one seems to point out is that the “moral” people in the news must adopt my Christian standard to judge me yet immediately toss the part which says to judge not lest ye be judged.
I wouldn’t shy away from being called a racist.
I wouldn’t hesitate to point out the problems in the black community due to their own lack of leadership including those like Obama. This guest on Tucker just did exactly that. Practically fell off my chair, but good for her…
Tucker: Michelle Obama won’t talk about racism impacting Asian Americans…https://youtu.be/9NiQiMf3Mw0
I’ve been in business for myself for a long time now. Really nothing anyone can say that will phase me. In a way, I’m the perfect Moving Back to America candidate as Bill defines it. I’d be a reluctant though capable public servant looking to limit my own term.Just certain things in my own life with my own family that I need to be set before I can consider a run at anything.
If I did, I’d probably look at starting as a House rep like MTG. President someday? Maybe! President Amsden. Kind of has a ring to it. 😉
Listen, Jeremy – when you throw your hat in the ring I’ll be one of your proudest supporters. Sincerely mean that – I’ll help however I can even if it’s just with monetary support. Talk is cheap, but I hear passion and imagination and strength beneath your words.
Thanks for the links – I will watch them. I’ve reached a point where I don’t trust any politicians – even the ones you named. They’re gonna have to earn my trust, and that’s gonna take awhile.
I loved President Trump, with all his hard edges, outsized ego, off the cuff tweets and New York style. He’s dangerous, and I like that in a man. Didn’t much follow or care about politics until Obama absolutely crushed my hopes that a black could lead this country – I’m sure there are those who can – President Trump showcased them – but when DJT, who I only knew about from the occasional headline, began to thwart the swamp dwellers, I fell in love. To think what he could have done with just a little support within the party and his cabinet breaks my heart that he didn’t have it. Not a perfect man, or leader, but no one is ever gonna be. You want to find fault with him, it’s there, but that man loves his country and he loves the people who form the backbone of it. You could do much much worse to be like him.
I hope you will be president some day – maybe 2028, if we last that long!!!
And I love the fact that you have your own business – that experience, as it was for Trump, is invaluable when leading a country with the size and wealth of the US.
As a business owner myself, I can tell you that nothing builds fortitude better than to start a business, build it and make it last.
