The first half hour was so good that I sent it to a couple of my nephews, one of whom I fear is going the way of the soy boy millennial (altho I think he’s whatever the next gen is called).
btw, I haven’t been commenting much lately – past couple months – because Safari/BW has become an ongoing fight, in order to upvote comments, expand comments, or write my own comments I have to quit Safari, bring it back up, and hurry up to comment before my opportunity is gone. I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions/solutions for this…
1:55 : ‘views’ are like your tips, you shouldn’t be working for views if you think tips are radioactive.
I was a waitress once, back in my other life I left 35 years ago, started another career (software engineer-ish). You get over the tip situation when it becomes part of your salary, wait staff wages were less than minimum wage back then… But maybe it was the fact of being paid for your services, and it is individually earned and individually given, makes you feel like a prostitute?? I kind of felt the same way when forced to go to my boss to ask for a raise, it was like, doesn’t he see my work and my work ethic, why doesn’t he give me a raise w/o my needing to ask…
Re your current situation, you are the ‘owner’ of BW, the head, the leader… doesn’t mean you have to do all the work, even tho ultimately you are the one responsible for the product going out the door. Delegate, like you have given some work to Scott. Hire more people behind the scenes… which will both enable you to have the need for more members and the time to solicit.
Build it, and they will come!
Callus on the amygdala is a perfect metaphor. Seedlings started indoors need to be roughed up a bit to help them better survive the transition to the weather stresses they’ll be subjected to outdoors. Patting or tousling them actually strengthens their cell structure. We have done no one any favors by raising a generation of wilting hothouse plants. “ Endure hardship as discipline…No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12
Billy Joel was great until he started sleeping with a swimsuit model and became happy. His creativity was far better when he was a suicidal alcoholic. For all that he’s given us I’m happy if he’s not miserable but now writing crappy music
I hope he doesn’t drive anymore. A former bosses cousin is a Long Island LEO who says he has personally pull Mr Joel out of more than one single car accident. This was post CB so he was back to being the suicidal alcoholic. Unfortunately those guys often take other people with them.
And we told him not to drive
But he made it home alive
And we said that only proves that he’s insayayne
I’ve said this before, but the line better than Mal’s was Jayne’s: “I’d kill a man in a fair fight. Or if he was about to start one.”
Two & a half hours – Ron Swanson’s Alter Ego will be happy!
Bill’s ability to talk at length, about interesting topics, AND be interesting is astounding. Most people cannot carry on an interesting discussion for more than a few minutes, on their best day. Bill has an array of topics in which he has been interested enough to actually learn about those topic, and the ability to communicate that information to others. This is why I started watching his videos. I started watching TSL in the low 2 digits and though I have only ever watched two live, I don’t think I have missed an episode even if a couple of weeks later.
My sympathies for the loss of your kitty companion – I know how heartbreaking it is to lose a beloved pet. The loss is real and lasting, but the memories of them in their living years never fade.
She’s So Cold -You got the animation down cold, Bill – success! I didn’t even want to look away once. More, please.
Bill, you are ultra-conscientious, your standards are so high, and you are so self-effacing and modest that being a self-promoter is anathema to you. And, I’m guessing you were taught that bragging is vulgar. You know quality, you produce quality and you aren’t too proud to give credit where credit is due. What I’m trying to say is you have stellar character and astounding talent, and it’s a damned shame you aren’t better known for your achievements. Get an agent! Shine your light!
Your love of history and the remarkable people and events that have occurred in history are beautifully told with passion, intelligence and amazing clarity – all your series should be taught in history classes, and would be if public schools still taught history.
Btw, I thoroughly enjoyed your appearance on Dave Morrison’s show, Blue Collar Logic, Chapters 1 & 2 – https://youtu.be/pAYDrFkRcyI and https://youtu.be/4p_ZH1bx4Ig
Thank you, Bill. For everything you do to teach, entertain and enlighten me and everyone lucky enough to know about you.
your amygdala is a recording machine.
