The absolute stupidity on display in this speech, not ignorance because ignorance can be fixed, stupidity, is a feature not a bug (Hat tip to Bill). I believe the demoralization is on purpose. This admin has very dark plans for this country and they need to remove as many patriots from the military as possible and in the shortest time possible.
I wonder if all that extra fabric for the maternity uniforms will get in the way of carrying these batteries or solar panels?

That anecdote about how Marines feel about Soldiers is apparently still part of the equation today. My granddaughter’s husband did tours in Iraq and Afghanistan in the bomb disposal unit. He chose not to re-enlist, but while he was home in-between deployments he would tell us about interactions they had with Soldiers. Marines unequivocally believe that their own training and performance is at the pinnacle, and the Army is somewhere farther down the ladder. If a Marine was told they had to leave the Corps and join the Army, they would quit in disgust. Very interesting to hear that this attitude may have started in WWII.
By the time a Marine in combat infantry finishes his advanced training he has had the same or more advanced training as an Army Ranger except for the airborne (paratroop) component. That’s why Marines see things the way we do.
Any American that goes in harms way to protect this country gets my respect. I served in the Marine Corps but it doesn’t matter to me, respect-wise, if someone served in one of the other branches. Far, far be it from me to disparage another’s service. We need them all and they are all held high in my esteem.
But like it or not, believe it or not, the Marines really are special. Ask any Marine and he’ll tell you that … And ignore what the *Doggies, Squids, Zoomies and Puddle Pirates tell you, they’re just jealous. 😉

My dad was a Radarman in the Navy, so I grew up hearing lots of remarks about “Jarheads”! But living near Camp Pendleton for many years and seeing the caliber of young men that were in our community did indeed show me that Marines are a special breed. Nothing but respect, though, for all who wear/wore the uniform. Deep respect and honor.
I think you may be missing the bigger point here. Kamala doesn’t care about criticism. She has calculated that she doesn’t need to tailor her comments to audiences. She is a bloodless, unprincipled, utterly ruthless political creature who could not win any popular vote, but after the machinations of the Dems in 2020 knows they can put anyone up, literally anyone, and ballot harvest, machine count and all the rest to get them over the line. So she can speak to her ideological allies and ignore everyone else. And God help anyone who gets in her way.
Unfortunately, I disagree with Scott’s final assessment about Harris’ speech. I think all people, male or female, who ascribe to the ideology of “equity” (not equality) like Harris does, intentionally lift up and commend women at the expense of men. Men are the historic oppressors of women, so they inherently deserve to be demoralized and knocked down several pegs on the ladder of human accomplishment. Hers is an evil ideology that is intended to divide people into tribes that are easier to control. Power through manipulation.
If I had a lab I could probably build you a man portable cold fusion reactor, test tube fusion, but someone worked very hard to shut down Pons and Fleishmann’s discovery in 1989. It would be more noisy than solar though. Silence is truly golden on the battle field.
The fighting at night solar problem is not as bad as it seems. Armies fight at night, move by night, etc. They spend the day harbored up in defensive positions with good perimeters. This is when they charge up the batteries regardless of the technology. This is when they sleep. The choice is noisy generators or silent solar. Solar cells are perfect in this context. They are camouflaged for transport and they are lighter than a weeks fuel.
If the enemy has air superiority or the high ground above you then your in the wrong war for solar but your probably dead before charging the batteries is an issue anyway.
There was work on metal-air fuel cells that are both silent and run on metal fuel, aluminum/ magnesium sheets that can be dropped to units without a parachute. George W Bush funded it and it was completed in 2008-9 but Obama shut down the project. Its now an Israeli technology.
That’s fine, but the soldier is still required to carry both the panel and the batteries — not just the panel as that cackling hyena we know as the current VP suggested in her abysmal speech.
It does not really matter if its a man or woman lugging batteries up a hill, the battery load is always two much. As an army sig I did a lot of that and we always took a spare or two. If you halve the battery weight that means soldiers will just grab another spare. This is a historic problem with the military, particularly infantry, soldiers always carry more stuff than a medically safe load. The Romans complained about the problem and its not the officers fault. Veteran soldiers will grab or steal extra ammo, water and stuff just in case they need them. Units have had to be ordered to stay within mandated limits and the orders failed to be obeyed. Yes new recruits complain about the load and there are elite units that travel very light however no soldier wants to run out of ammo or water (and now batteries).
Harris is a moron but the solar cell she is talking about is real, does work and was originally invented a few miles away from me here in Australia. Its fully camouflaged, not blue. It has a built in battery in the spine and it allows Australian commandos to operate behind enemy lines days without supply and that is the problem. Navy and Marines are not meant to operate behind enemy lines for long at all. If they are, something has gone very badly wrong. Renewables for army bases were a major push under the George W Bush era occupation in the middle east [and ATF/CIA operations in the South American drugs battle] it reduces the tonnage of generator fuel you need to ship in to a base by 50%. That in turn reduced the convoy frequency and convoy losses. Its a technology that very useful if your occupying hostile enemy territory. That is what Trump was trying to end. Harris’s speech is signaling a return to the Bush/ Obama military’s foreign interventionism.

Wow! So much I could comment on here. To quote one of my mentors in the Army, who was also one of my Corps CGs, “All victory in battle depends on the infantry squad’s ability to plant our flag in the ground and declare that ground ours. All else is support.” What a soldier wants is equipment that he can depend on to work when he needs it to work. All the eco-green-BS is just that. Unfortunately, the politicians such as our current Pres and VP, have absolutely no flesh in the battle.
Steve Green: You need to study the battle for the Solomon Islands. The Marines spent considerable time trying to defeat the Japanese on Guadalcanal. They even built monuments to themselves at Henderson Field. Then the US Army’s 25th Infantry Division came in and cleared the Japanese in less than a week. That is how the 25th got their nickname “Tropic Lightning”. It was not the only time they blitzed to victory in the Pacific, either. The USMC simply had better PR than the other services because their combat movie footage was shot in color while everyone else was shot in black & white. Incidentally, the government of Solomon Islands maintains a really nice WWII outdoor museum outside (NW) of Honiara, the capital city.

As I commented on Rumble – I’m sure that Kamala was seriously stunned by the lack of a standing ovation for that joke. Living in her bubble with her leftist friends that would have been comedy gold, just like speaking at a church and referring to God as “she”. It’s the same thing that has happened to comedy on all of the late night talk shows. In other words, it was a standard “clapter” line, and what she really expected was a chorus of WOOOOOOOO’s followed by five minutes of standing ovation for getting in such a wicked burn on the Patriarchy. So when there was just a smattering of delayed, polite, chuckling she had to do her own cackling laugh to fill in the silence. I would bet a lot of money that she was completely mystified about the lack of adulatory response to what she thought was Bob Hope level humor with the troops.

As soon as Kamala started that question I knew that she was going to use the pronoun “she” before she even got there. And I can promise that whichever speechwriter came up with it, the others were high-fiving her, not for how the unexpected pronoun would uplift all the girls listening, but because they were delighting in how it would rub all the men listening’s noses in the new power structure. The “problem” is, Scott, that you are a decent person and have a hard time imagining someone else could be so base as to enjoy stomping down on other people more than they would enjoy lifting someone up. I’m past my prime now, but in the mid sixties I was a radioman for 3rdMARDIV, 3rd Ontos (Da Nang, Hue, Dong Ha,) and averaged 2-3 patrols per week — every one of them at night. I have a simple question. With the smoke and fire of incoming artillery, how is a solar panel supposed to function? Besides that, a solar panel will not power a device directly, but needs a battery to store it’s output. They are also fragile and easily damaged. They may have some use in a rear area for recharging batteries for the front lines, but petroleum powered generators are quicker and more reliable. Lithium ion batteries are great for carrying a massive amount of power, but if discharged beyond 70% don’t last long in service and under heavy loads get very hot.
For use in a military sense, liquid fuels are the most reliable and easily transported of any power source we have at present. I can’t see them being replaced any time in the near future. Even if we somehow invent small man-portable nuclear power units, they are going to be heavy and dangerous if they take a bullet! Face facts! Petroleum and natural gas are going to be our main power sources for a long time.
Ask Kamala if her transport helicopter is running on solar/wind power? Ask her if Air Force 2 is running on only solar/wind power? Force these policy makers to actually live under the changes they want to implement first. No cheats, no excuses, let them rely on solar powered/electric cars/planes/trains/etc.. Force them to run their homes, offices, and entire political structure under their green rules. Only carbon neutral energy uses measured from “cradle to grave”. Change out her cell phones/computers for solar powered ones without any battery storage. Cut off their grid power links to the power stations. Imagine her and her entourage rolling up in those crackerjack mid range electric tin cans instead of the armored SUVs they currently field by the dozens. Put a wind turbine in her home’s front yard and install portable solar arrays everywhere she goes and only allow their power use. Restrict her funding to its current limit, no increases and no allowances for any added expenses. Let her be the guinee pig and actually prove form and function before she forces soldiers in war zones to test her ideas. Heck drop her off in Afghanistan with a solar panel and a radio at night. See if she would rather have batteries instead.
Why isn’t the White House running on solar/wind power only? Why isn’t the front lawn a wind farm? Why isn’t the pentagon covered in solar panels? Why aren’t all the FBI,CIA, DEA, NSA, SS (funny), etc. utilizing electric solar powered vehicles if they are so dam great?

(Note, I’m not a “ring knocker” and did not attend the Academy. Marines are somewhat leery of ring knockers as they have in the past demonstrated a propensity to sacrifice lives in order to advance themselves rather than the mission. Which incidentally is also a description of Cackling Kamala. As with anything stereotypical, this does not apply to all ring knockers. In my mind I’ll give a ring knocker a chance to prove he’s not an asshole and a regular, non-Academy graduated officer a chance to prove he is.)

Until we come up with something self-powered (like fusion powered personal armored combat suits in the science fiction stories I love so much), there are always going to be batteries.
The crucial point is how those batteries are going to be charged up. They will be charged up by the most efficient, reliable means possible. This generally involves charging batteries in the rear and transporting those charged batteries to where they are needed.
That is the most efficient and cost effective way to move energy from point A to point B. Adding a personal, solar battery charging system to the mix will increase not decrease a Marine’s combat load-out unnecessarily.
“The rear” is a fluid concept. Meaning that it may change from day to day. Everything has to be pack-able and portable.
Hydrocarbon fueled generators are a lot more pack-able and portable than solar and wind mechanisms. The same goes for the hydrocarbons that fuel those generators. There is more available energy per pound in hydrocarbon systems than there is in solar or wind systems and that energy is more reliable.
So no matter what Cackling Kamala says, no matter how much virtue signalling she uses, she is going to have zero influence on combat effectiveness issues.
Oh, one more thing. To Steve’s point on Marines fighting hard and fast — One of the unofficial mottos you would hear as a Marine is “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” This is a true fact. I have seen a tiny little Philippino Drill Instructor climb a man-mountain of a recruit and beat the living hell out of him. Tiny though that DI might have been, he was fit, cut, very muscular with a musculature unattainable by female physiology and mean as a junkyard dog. That was a lesson that has stayed with me my entire life.

The fact that Kamala Harris has risen from lowly beginnings, been pulled off her knees to be the VP of the United States and the next POTUS and is clearly one of the dumbest people in politics makes me really wonder exactly who is pulling the strings in Washington. Because it isn’t Joe Biden who is the second dumbest person in politics.
I remember when the democrats unkindly referred to Dan Quayle as impeachment insurance for Bush – i.e., that if you make the VP an undesirable president then you protect your lackluster president from removal from office. Now, in the “Weekend at Bernies” presidency they must have asked “how can we keep the American public from storming the WH grounds demanding that we bury this walking corpse? Who would be the worst possible VP imaginable so that no matter how obviously decrepit this figurehead gets we can be sure that he makes it to the two-year mark without being laughed out of office? Somebody so horrible that people would recoil in terror at the thought of invoking the 25th amendment? Ah,that’s it! Kamala! Perfect!”

My guess, from the rumors and speculation that have been around since 2008, is that the Dem Party has mostly been taken over by the Obama type wing of the party and the Clinton followers are mostly out.
Some might just think Kamala is as smart as they think she is, or they find her a more perfect figurehead, while Joe was necessary because the primary could only be cheated so far without looking obvious. There were already talks about Bernie being ganked for a second time. If they find success using Joe as a puppet, I don’t think there is much to stretch to attach the strings to Kamala next.
