I’m kinda 50/50 on whether McAfee exited this world by himself or not.
On the one hand, he was 75 years old. And he’d been living a pretty good life by most standards for much of it. He had his adventures, but now he was looking at spending the rest of his life behind bars at bare minimum. He’d die in jail. Which for a guy like that, is not the end he would prefer.
Cold hard calculation plus the chance for one last epic troll on the way out. Set it up so that everyone “knows” he wouldn’t kill himself. But set up all the paranoia about the Fed (who he hated) and do all you can to make them look bad and lose trust (not that they deserve any) and when it’s all set – THEN he kills himself. And with everything set in place, gets to go out on his own terms AND give a giant middle finger to those who’d been trying to get him all this time.
I could see McAfee doing exactly that.
On the other hand – if he lives – even in prison he STILL gets to be a gigantic troll.
Remember Charles Manson? Evil SOB was still getting press decades into his stay at club Fed.
McAfee could be a massive pain in the ass to the Feds AND get to live free on their dime. Would he want to do THAT for the rest of his life?
I could see him wanting to live just to do that as well.
That’s just looking at it from what I know of his personality and modus operandi over the years. That’s the internal view as I see it and I could well be wrong.
Externally – if McAfee knew ANYTHING about the Clinton crime family. Then getting whacked is a very real possibility. And at the very least, he’s called the circumstances into question so we know he was “Epsteined”.
Regardless – I’m gonna miss having the bastard around. He was one of the most interesting, entertaining souls on the planet.
In my experience, most of the time people make such warnings, it is because they are going to off themselves, and just want the posthumous publicity. But, your experience may differ.
Reportedly he was to be extradited to the U.S. for tax evasion. It’d be a little strange if they took him out, instead of making him a public example of what happens to millionaire tax evaders.
He grew up where I now live. I know many people who knew him as a teen and college student. Nobody here believes he killed himself after his dad taking that route.
Odd. My wife’s boss went to college with him, and they were initially friends, and he has no doubt he killed himself. I called him about half an hour ago to ask.
Regardless, I do not know for sure, nor do I really care.
He knew.
