Embrace the Economic Suck: Learning to Love Empty Shelves in the Soviet States of America

A Washington Post columnist tells us to lower expectations — in effect, to embrace the economic suck of short inventories and staffing and endless delays.

I have a number of “prepper” friends. I realize now that they are fundamentally not willing to lower their expectations. They plan to eat well, to stay warm (or cool) and dry, and to produce their own power if needed. Food. Water. Shelter. It ‘s really that simple. I can go there, as I have the ability and resources, but I never want it to be long-term or confrontational. And that’s when the rubber meets the road, because I will not give up personal liberty for an un-American ideology that denies constitutional authority.

Remember when Obama said we should get used to low economic growth as the new normal? Then he had the nerve to claim credit for the growth of Trump’s economy. We need to stop expecting the leftists to tell the truth or embrace equal justice for all.

Just like they did when they took over the corporations, the leftists put the flunkies on the front lines to take our flak and hide like cowards from the consequences of their actions. They destroyed all the goodwill built by conservatives who took the risk and started businesses which became major corporations, and they’re trying to suck the life out of the good ole United States of America while destroying the great nation that those with a conservative attitude built. Same old story. Conservatives build. Selfish, greedy, atheist leftists destroy. Biden is no different from the Indian working the telephone customer service bank for AT&T.

Nothing calms down a frustrated person more than telling them they have little to be frustrated about. Maybe they’re tired of seeing more and more empty shelves in the grocery stores and box stores and this was one more than they could stand.
This is Scott’s version of “Lower your expectations.”

Ironically, shipping volume at the ports of Charleston and Savannah (states where trucks operate freely), have seen record levels in the last few months. So free market pressures has already started to correct the issues. The double-speak “supply chain problems” invokes an image of an elite master planner badly orchestrating the economy, but it expect it was planned. For as long as I can remember (the creation of welfare state) government overreach modus operandi involves the bureaucrats creating new catastrophes and leftist journalists crying crocodile tears saying “if only government would fix this problem”, causing politicians accommodating by creating new agencies. And the cycle repeats.

When I need something and can’t buy it because of this Chinese biological warfare attack, how about I just find a Communist-Democrat that has what I want and take theirs away from them, Hhmmm?

Steve, the AB5 news was shocking. Shocking I say. Why didn’t I hear about this in The San Francisco Chronical? Or the LA Times? Or what used to be a pretty good newspaper, the San Jose Mercury News? Or….
BTW, The AB5 bill sponsor was none other than Lorena Gonzales, famous for telling Elon Musk to “F*ck Off” in a tweet, following Musk’s announcement he was moving Tesla HQ to Texas.
Well Lorena, who’s going to build your electric trucks? Not GM, because all of their Bolts are catching on fire, and GM is having to replace all the batteries or buy back the cars. Musk will be building those trucks.
Lorena Gonzales for D.A. (Dumbass)

Furthermore, Ballotpedia notes the carveouts/exemptions from AB5
the following workers and professions were exempted from the ABC test:[1]

  • professional service contractors who (a) maintain their own business location, which could be their residence, (b) have a business license, (c) can set or negotiate their own rates for the services performed, (d) can set their own hours outside of project completion dates and reasonable business hours, (e) are customarily engaged in the same type of work performed under contract with another hiring entity or hold themselves out to other potential customers as available to perform the same type of work; and (f) can customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of the services.
  • securities broker-dealers or investment advisers (or their agents and representatives)
  • certain medical professions, including physicians, surgeons, dentists, podiatrists, and psychologists
  • veterinarians
  • lawyers
  • architects and landscape architects
  • freelance writers, photographers, photojournalists, videographers, and editors
  • performance artists who set their own terms of work
  • engineers
  • private investigators
  • accountants
  • individuals who perform underwriting inspections, premium audits, risk management, or loss control work for insurance and financial service industries
  • individuals who provide appraisal services
  • home inspectors or manufactured housing salespersons
  • individuals who are conducting an international exchange visitor program
  • competition judges
  • direct sales salespersons
  • commercial fishermen
  • licensed real estate agent
  • repossession agent (when free from the control and direction of the hiring person or business)
  • subcontractors for construction contractors (when certain conditions are met)
  • subcontractors for construction trucking services (when certain conditions are met)
  • individuals performing services for a certified motor club (pursuant to a contract between the motor club and a third party)

I don’t think the problem is so much one of inability to tolerate temporary inconvenience, hardships or discomfort. It’s the danger that the condition will become permanent if we just accept the situation as a new normal.

Do NOT accept the situation as a new normal.

In my work I encounter tier 1 and tier 2 employees all the time. If I have an objection or a complaint that is the first person I’m able to convey my displeasure to. I always preface this with “This isn’t aimed at you personally so don’t take it personally, I realize you’re doing the best you can but …” Then I tell them what has pissed me off and why it should not be so. After which I say “Is there someone else you can put me in contact with that I should be saying this to?”

Sometimes the answer is yes, so up the ladder of greater responsibility I climb until I finally reach the person who can do something about a situation.

Even if the answer is no, these people I’m talking to have department, staff and sales meetings where they can, if they want to, bring up a discovered point of failure and rectify it.

Obviously this doesn’t apply to Scott in his retail furniture sales arena, if they can’t get furniture they can’t get it. But …

If people give up and stop trying to buy furniture that sends ripples up and down the supply chain.

So don’t accept this situation as a new normal unless that’s what you want it to become.

Oddly enough, we’ve sold more furniture in the past 18 months than at anytime in our 80+ year history.

That’s good news and a hopeful portent indeed. Then people are willing to shop and buy despite the delay in delivery.

Maybe we Americans are finally learning to live with delayed gratification? Or maybe people are so desperate for new furniture they’ll tolate the wait?

Or maybe their COVID checks are being used on furniture?

Or would those 18 months coincide with the arrival of a fresh faced Democrat-state-controlled escapee who joined the Sales team named Scott Ott?

Or people looked around their homes, in which they were spending way more time, and went – we need to fix this. So they did.
We built a sunroom, new deck, bought furniture, etc. Now looking askance at our old sofa.
Might need to send Scott a PM.

But gentlemen, “Lower your expectations” has so many wonderful applications! Are you a woman who makes $0.73 for every $1.00 a man makes? Don’t complain about it. Lower your expectations!
Are you a pink-haired soccer player who doesn’t make as much as your male counterparts? Don’t sue the soccer commission. Lower your expectations!
See how wonderful that is?

As far as Christmas presents go, I buy throughout the year so that’s not impacted all that much. For what I can’t get that I might still need, I’ll just make something instead. I’m good on TP!
I am getting real tired of going through crisis after crisis, though, along with all of the threats of our government becoming more tyrannical with each passing day…

Heh – my Jr year in school I went out for Halloween as a Coyote Morning Victim. Probably not the smartest for meeting women…

I was on leave, staying in a hotel with a couple buddies. One of them brought this skanky biker chick back from a bar. The next morning he comes out of his room, she’s still sleeping. He says …

“God, what is that stench? It smells like something died in here.”

I said …

“Bro, the air in here is fine. Smell your moustache.”

Things just went south from there. Involving toothpaste vigorously applied to facial hair, shouting, a little bit of vomiting and a naked girl running out a hotel room door with her clothes pursuing her full flight in a proper, military airborne manner.

Lesson for the day, boys and girls, is —

“Just because a Marine can land on any beach does not mean he should do so without due considerations for hazardous conditions, obstacles and enemy fire.”

… and saying that nearly got another fight started.

Back in those days, it was a serious mistake to try to pass yourself off as a girl when you were not properly equipped as a female. At least to a Marine. The consequences could be quite unpleasant and I’m sure my buddy would have noticed the difference, all considered.

It’s not the guy in drag that would be the problem. It’s the guy in drag LYING about what he really was that would be the issue. Call me old fashioned, I feel the same way about that today as I did back then.

There are only two genders and a pig is a pig no matter how much lipstick you slap on it.

There is one, and only one, exception where Drag Dude is allowed to live, and he MUST meet these three criteris:
1) It’s the 1960s
2) The dude he’s working is Ray Davies
3) The incident inspires one of the greatest rock anthems ever written

While taking a course on motorcycle safety, the instructor drilled into us: “look where you want to go. If you look at a tree at the side of the road while taking a corner, that’s where you will go.” The rule applies to riding a bike and applies to life in general. Look where you want to go.
