Will the founder of SpaceX, Tesla and more really do it? Does his ‘transition’ provide a template for others?
In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party.
But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican.
Now, watch their dirty tricks campaign against me unfold … 🍿

Elon Musk seems like a Christ-like figure in that he’s an “all-in” kind of guy. That would imply that there should be an anti-Christ, and there are plenty of candidates – Obama, Hillary, Schiff, Pelosi, Schumer, the list goes on. But the anti-Christ will be an attractive, compelling, and charismatic figure, which applies to none of these people. Keep looking.
If becoming a Christian was primarily a function of intellect, Satan would be a Christian. (James 2:19 “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” (NIV)) Becoming a Christian is coming to trust Jesus for 100% of your eternity. Jesus’ death & resurrection doesn’t simply make it possible for you to finish the job of earning Heaven. Trusting in His death & resurrection seals your eternity, and your grateful response is to do what He asks. (Jn 14:23 “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.” (NIV))

Is Elon Musk becoming the next Donald Trump?
A gazillionaire with a penchant for keeping himself in the public eye? Check.
I suppose there won’t be a presidential campaign, though.
Guys, EVERYTHING you said using the brilliant comparison to AA/Alanon, etc. etc. and not rejecting people for being late to the party applies in other ways, too. 4 years ago my wife and I left my native 2nd-gen L.A. and moved to Tennessee, and so many friends here, Texas, Florida keep angrily repeating the trope about “Leave your liberal politics with you or stay out!”
Well, in my experience here, virtually ALL of the escapees from California, New York, Illinois, etc. etc. are GOOD people who are CONSERVATIVE and made the huge emotional, financial, and energy sacrifice of moving their former homes for all the BEST reasons, but for those who aren’t and are motivated purely by finances and the like, they need the EXAMPLE of hospitality, friendship, and welcoming, not pre-judgement and rejection.
BTW, Bill, Zo, Natasha, you’re all very WELCOME here! BTW, I’m in Chattanooga because Nashville is already too much like L.A., but it is astounding the people I meet from the old haunts–the “Geek Squad” kid who installed my TV’s from Best Buy was from Pacoima! LOTS of people here–usually young–30’s–from the Chicago area too.
I escaped from Los Angeles 9 years ago last April. I was never so glad of a view as I was seeing the California state line receding in my rearview mirror. I grew up on a farm in the northern Midwest and I hated L.A. with a passion. I’ve seen this “leave your liberal politics behind or stay out” attitude more than a few times myself.
When I moved here my neighbor saw me working in my garage sorting things out and came over to check out his new neighbor, me. He was polite and oblique about it but it was still clear that was what he was doing. When he asked where I had moved from and I said “Los Angeles” an eyebrow started to climb. He casually mentioned that he had a shooting range in his backyard and hoped the occasional gunfire wouldn’t bother me too much. I said “Hell, I’ll come over with my stuff too. I love shooting.” … And things have been just fine in that regard ever since.
OTOH, my sister (who moved with her family the same time I did and we now live about 200 yards from each other) had the bad habit of blurting out during the first conversation with anyone that she was “from L.A.” I would correct her in front of them and say “No, you’re from Minnesota, you just lived in Los Angeles for a while.”. I finally managed to get it across to her that people here are NOT impressed and being “from L.A.” is NOT a good thing generally.
People have real grounds for their attitude in this regard. There are definitely Lefties who have fled their own fouled nest and moved out of SoCal. They’ve pretty much ruined Oregon and Washington. There’s been an exodus of Californians to Portland and Seattle going on for decades and look at how those formerly pragmatic conservative cities of yore have turned out today.
So no, not everyone who abandoned the Soviet Socialist Repooblik of Kalifornia “… are (all) GOOD people who are CONSERVATIVE and made the huge emotional, financial, and energy sacrifice of moving their former homes for all the BEST reasons … etc.”. There are plenty of the other sort who have read the handwriting on the wall and moved to begin the process of fouling their new homes with their deadly ideologies. Rats of all stripe desert a sinking ship and you can’t blame people for not wanting to welcome rats with open arms.
I don’t. I understand their concerns and agree with them completely. I do everything I can to be sure that new acquaintances know which side of the political divide I’m on and those reassurances have gone a long way towards making new friends here. I have adopted their attitude of welcoming fleeing conservatives and scorning the Leftist rats who are abandoning the decaying fruits of their own foolishness to start the process again elsewhere.
Democrats were never the party of kindness – they just were good at pretending. Now that the mask is off we’re seeing who they always were

So I had to go out and find that David Mamet article … and this passage stuck out at me because it is very much something that happened in my life. And I stopped listening to NPR. It’s actually what started me blogging all those years ago.
“We were riding along and listening to NPR. I felt my facial muscles tightening, and the words beginning to form in my mind: Shut the fuck up. “?” she prompted. And her terse, elegant summation, as always, awakened me to a deeper truth: I had been listening to NPR and reading various organs of national opinion for years, wonder and rage contending for pride of place.”
Find it interesting that Elon knows the dirty tricks are coming. Of course, he’s already had some. (Being told f*** you, told not paying fair share of taxes). He knows its going to ramp up. But I really find it interesting that he ended the tweet with a popcorn emoji. Seems to me that means he expects to find it entertaining. Go get ’em Elon. Good hunting!
Exactly. More than anything, Musk seems to thrive on challenge and, what Bill said, “wonder.” He knew what he was getting into when he offered to buy Twitter. And previous to that when he said he was moving Tesla out of California. He knows all that garbage is coming and beyond responding to it in a snarky way, he doesn’t care.
